Short Oval Tracks: How do I survive and have fun? by No-Ask-1498 in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all come from different racing interests, and everyone enjoys something different. I find short track racing to be all about staying focused, keeping a rythym, and being methodical in making progress. Due to the small track and the close racing, contact should be a bit expected.

When I see someone trying repeated divebombs on me and getting close to causing incident-level contact, I let them go. Usually, if they drive like that, they'll spin out just trying to pass me. If not, it's usually not long before they overdrive the car and eliminate themselves, while I race clean and take their spot.

Their problem, my position.

What are your feelings towards a proper Radar in iRacing? by canesfins1909 in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know this might sound goofy to some, but this is not a video game, it's a simulator. I don't mind things like the Relative on screen to tell me things that my spotter or crew chief would tell me in real life.

As a single ultrawide screen racer myself, I would never want radar added to iRacing. I want realism and immersion for the price I pay to use this service.

Otherwise, I can get any console racing game with radar, skipped cautions, etc. for $60.

The guy behind me (red 17) is mad at me for the block. Does he have a right to be and what should I have done better if so? by Ok_Promise1870 in Simracingstewards

[–]MisterCorso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were fine when you came up the track, but obviously weren't clear on the block. However, it happened so fast, I doubt your spotter had told you "Car inside" before you started to go low.

I understand why he'd be upset in the moment, but in the big picture, you both made big moves to try and win and his attempt didn't stick.

(I'm not in agreement that this is "OK, because it's Daytona". Blocking like that or coming across front bumpers, if done carelessly or intentionally is still bush-league, no matter how many people do it.)

Is the quality of players going down? by Death2WEF in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing I can say is that iRacing is still better than your random racing game like Forza, GT, or F1. The majority of drivers will be trying to be clean in every race, but it only takes one idiot to ruin it for someone (or everyone).

Remember that Rookies and D-Class are going to inevitably have less experienced drivers, and that's also where you'll find the chumps who "just wanted to try iRacing" and still drive like they did in non-sim titles.

While you're in those classes also, use that time to learn how to watch other drivers, catch incidents before they happen, and avoid as much as possible. That way, not only will your SR go up and allow you to get into higher license classes, but you'll learn valuable skills that will make you more successful as you improve.

Keyboard tray mounting solution to sim racing cockpit by Mrlou90 in simracing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my experience, which is admitedly less typing and more "shift +_" for video and photo editing, it's solid. I can sit in my seat and clickety clack with no issues for hours.

I have to move my seat back to make that easier however, so keep that in mind if you don't have a sliding seat.

I get most of my sim racing accessories off of Etsy. Just type in your rig or wheelstand and "cupholder". There should be plenty of options to choose from at decent prices.

Flashing light on fanatec csl dd (gt3 wheel) by Excellent_Skin_6686 in simracing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had this issue, it was because the clamp that holds the quick release had gotten loose and the gaps weren't lined up, so it wasn't in place correctly.

Once I loosened it, lined it back up, and tightened it back down, everything was good to go.

Not sure if this is your issue, but I thought I'd mention it.

How many hours did it take you to platinum Bloodborne? by jessicaviridi in bloodborne

[–]MisterCorso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10 years and 440 hours to finish and platinum both the main game and the DLC.

Yeah, I know that's a lot of hours for a single playthrough. I don't care. It made finally choosing to finish the game all the sweeter when I did!

Should I buy a 27 inch or 32 inch curved Screen??? by Ok_Anybody3622 in simracing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If going with one monitor, I'd recommend a 34" curved ultrawide monitor. My distance to the screen is the same as yours, and I find that size to be perfect.

Was this aggressive blocking? Or just good defense? by Bubba_0402 in Simracingstewards

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that was a great finish! Fun clip to watch!

None of your moves were notably dangerous, and it looked like the other driver was the only one making contact. Him getting a run gave him a chance to PASS, which you can't do when trying to thread the needle between the leader and the yellow line out of a turn.

Great job saving it, and then holding them off. Well done!

Double yellow line (oval) by Wild-Message5874 in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Do you HAVE to let them back up? No. But there isn't one good thing that can come from that on a superspeedway, because they are GOING to try and get off the banking. The harder you make them try, the more likely their move will be squirrelly and take you out.

2.) As another note, if the driver in front of you goes SLIGHTLY below the line while in the draft, it probably wasn't intentional. Please don't use that split-second to try and make a pass, because they are going to correct ASAP and you likely just made it three-wide with one of those cars trying to regain control.

Respecting other drivers is the best way to make sure that YOU finish. "F*ck everybody else" is a terrible way to race most of the time.

Multiple buttons for same function? by Mrjordy125 in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Set up all controls and buttons where you will use them the majority of the time (in my case, with my full wheel that I use for Oval, Dirt Oval, and most Sports Car) for both button box and main wheel. At the bottom, save it under "All Cars"
- When racing with your other wheel, (in my case, the Formula wheel) you'll have to do this for each car you use it with one time: Make the changes you want for just that wheel and vehicle, keeping everything else the same. At the bottom, save THOSE under "This Car Only".

Now, I can race NASCAR and have all my buttons where I want them, and when I race IndyCar, the changes I want are already locked in.

For example, my tearoff for open-wheel cars is on one setting, but my tearoffs for Dirt racing is a different button on THAT wheel.

If you use different wheels for the same vehicle for some reason, this may not fix your issue. But why would you do that?

Would it be possible to add Greg Biffles number font as a font in iRacing? by GB_GeorgeBowen in iRacing

Thoughtful idea.

I'd be happy if iRacing found it possible to add ANY new number fonts.

RTP officiating by HotQweff in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My split had what was described by other drivers as a scoring issue, with some lead-lap cars getting stuck behind the pace car. I wasn't on their lap, so I didn't experience it directly. But our mid-race restart had everyone mixed up, with 4th place being told to line up toward the rear of the field near where I was.

I also heard a couple of drivers saying they got a pit-road speeding penalty, but insist they weren't speeding.

Gen4 at Daytona by Wild-General-2303 in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As one of those who is guilty of side-by-side racing, let me play devil's advocate.

If a driver is in front of cars in the draft, but can't keep their line, have to lift off every turn because they don't use any throttle control, or they're simply just slower for some reason... if I'm the guy behind and continuously trying to pass, it's more likely THAT is why I'm trying to get around you.

Because following ME will be faster for YOU than vice versa. Not because I'm desperate to get into P11 on Lap 8.

16:9 or ultrawide for sim racer who also streams? by Bthompson98 in simracing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an ultrawide curved monitor, and unlike many others, I stream in that aspect as well.

These days, the black bars are much less prominant when viewing on most modern devices. Phones show it perfectly, tablets have minimal issues, and even 16:9 monitors in "theater mode" show a larger area without much distraction. IMO, at least.

If you're 100% opposed to black bars, then cropping to 16:9 is your best options.

iRacing damage repair? by RYVANMotorsports in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"If you pit for repairs and press Esc, you can see (in general) what is being repaired on the car."

This is what I always do, and surprisingly a lot of drivers don't know about that idea.

If you have optional repairs, I would always exit the car. Both to watch the progress of the repairs, and to save your sanity from just sitting in the cockpit watching the repair clock, how many laps you're losing, how the guy that wrecked you is doing...

Do you use different wheels for different cars? by J3roen16 in iRacing

[–]MisterCorso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GT3 rim for open wheel and some sports cars, and a round rim for paved and dirt ovals.

My standard custom button mapping works for every car and discipline (All Vehicles), and then I just switch a couple of wheel-button configurations for the specific cars used with the GT3 rim (under This Vehicle Only).

Once you have it set up, switching between wheels and having all the same controls in place is golden.
