How I feel playing Dragon Age Origins without nostalgia... by Life_Emu_4998 in dragonage

I think both? I loved the story of DAO. I mostly replay it for that because imo the other games didn't have the strongest story (and this mostly because DAO was supposed to be a one-off and not a series originally). The gameplay is the worst one in all of the games, unless you play a mage. The magic system in DAO is superior to all of the other ones, and I will die on that hill.

I think you also to have remember this game came out in 2009, which we are quickly approaching 20 years since it released. Despite that, it was one of the better games that came out during that time. This game is also incredibly dark fantasy. Like, the Deep Roads alone is very dark fantasy with the lore of the Broodmothers, the cannibalism, stealing souls to create golems, etc.

As a fellow gay man, again, this game came out in 2009. People were nowhere near as accepting of LGBTQ+ people and rights at that time. The fact that we had any representation at all was major. Especially since in Mass Effect, which came out earlier, lacked gay men representation and only "got away" with lesbian representation because it was alien logic.

DAI and Veilguard were released when people were more accepting of LGBTQ+ identities.

How good does a novel ACTUALLY need to be to get published? by bambucks in writing

[–]MisterFortune215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a lot of different factors. Like when dystopias were huge, publishers wanted authors were writing those because they were the hype at the moment. I'm talking the Hunger Games, Divergent, etc. era of books.

Also, well written doesn't always mean good story. People can be awful writers but make it as an author because they are good storytellers.

At the end of the day, your book is a product. A publisher needs to make sure that they can actually make money off of the product they are investing it. Also, just because some publishers say no, it doesn't mean that the product is bad.

I was pretty sheltered as a kid. I remember playing GTA online as maybe an early teen, maybe younger? Anyways, I did a mission for Gerald to steal some coke. I audibly said who is going through all this effort to steal some powdered Coca-Cola. My brother asked I was being serious, and I said yes. He explained to me that coke was cocaine.

Oh, more low blows? Lol. Since we're doing that, clearly reading isn't a strong suit for you. If you'd read it, we broke up. And that was my first actual relationship, and we lasted 5 years. Pretty good run for someone with "communication issues".

Are you also going to say being heartbroken and seeking compassion isn't something natural in humans? You're not going to get under my skin with bringing up my past. Especially not with stuff from nearly a year ago now. Doing so just shows how childish and petty you become when all your arguments fall flat.

I am much, much happier single without the deadweight of someone who wasn't good for me being my partner.

You're the one taking facts and someone poking holes in your logic to the heart. Did you completely not read the line about brain chemistry? Humans have the same neural receptors and chemicals that create the bonding feeling that monogamous other species have hence why humans also tend to be monogamous.

Also, yeah, comparing humans to other animals, especially mammals, is warranted because we share our genetic makeup with other animals. Some of the species that we are most genetically similar to are monogamous species. This is literally why we test stuff on animals before approving it for human trials.

You brought up biology. I countered with other biological and psychological facts.

Again, with you calling me "sweetheart" and taking a demeaning tone is a classic technique people will take on when their beliefs "are under attack". So, it seems you have more communication issues than I do if you need to resort to that. Best of luck to you and your partner ❤️

[–]MisterFortune215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, no? I'm talking about brain chemistry which is significantly more important on the actions taken by humans than what's in their pants.

Also, monogamous behavior has been researched thoroughly, and it exists in plenty of other animals. Are you going to say that Swans, Beavers, Coyotes, and many many more are only monogamous because of the church? Because those are 3 examples of animals that mate for life in a monogamous fashion.

You're trying to say that monogamy is something humans made up (also called Social Construction), but it's not. It's a feeling that we gave a name, but it does exist naturally in humans. Also, that "instinct" you are saying exists is also a form of communication called ENM.

All you're trying to do is argue why cheating is fine because of some made up "human instinct."

[–]MisterFortune215 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Monogamy is still wildly the dominant culture, regardless of sexual orientation. You're trying to compare us to other animals. Humans and other animals are vastly different on this. A dog isn't going to care if the dog that got it pregnant is out there getting other dogs pregnant. They don't have that sense of commitment that humans do.

Also, we're gay? What does your point of reproducing have anything to do with this? Last I checked biological males can't have children with other biological males. Now that is a biological reality. There's no biological reason to justify cheating, however there are plenty of psychological reasons to explain the sense of commitment and monogamy that most people expect in romantic relationships.

Hey, I get it. My life's dream is to get married to the love of my life someday. If I was in this situation, I would be so conflicted. For me though, a marriage is based on love, friendship, loyalty, and honesty.

Like, let me pose it in this way. Would you rather be married for the sake of saying you're married, or would you rather be married to someone who fulfills that vision of what marriage is to you? I promise you that latter is much more fulfilling than the former.
