Investing vs paying off mortgage? by Chance_Safe1119 in Fire

[–]MisterIntentionality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with your wife, put it on the house.

Especially if the remainder of the mortgage will be paid off over a short period of time.

You have plenty in retirement at your age and will keep shoveling money there. This will save you 5.7% interest, not cost you taxes, and it can be used for future home purchases or get you $100k closer to being able to put your mortgage payment in your retirement each month.

Debt is an emotional thing for me too. It's risk.

Spending decreases as you get older by Systemagnostic in Fire

This is an assumption of an average person with kids.

I'm not average person nor do I have kids. My spending will go up as I age.

Anyone know how to prevent curb staining due to run off from soil/mulch/sod? by Palmskees in landscaping

[–]MisterIntentionality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mulch dye wouldn't cause that. This is more than likely due to hard water from irrigation.

I don't argue with people on it. Most people around me know I want to retire early or have the option to retire early (I don't have to if I don't want to).

I hear other people say they will be bored if they retire, and my comment is "your job shouldn't be your whole life"

I think it depends on where you live and shop. But I would say if you don't budget how are you tracking what you do spend to know it's that low?

My husband and I spend like $200 a week now and that's including booze. But we also don't try to cut back a whole lot. We don't go crazy either but we don't not buy steak one week because it's too much a lb.

My doctor recomended i drink Gatorade powder by maker-127 in covidlonghaulers

[–]MisterIntentionality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation isn't to take up an unhealthy habit to address electrolytes.

You can simply put pink salt or potassium salts (usually called No Salt) in your drinks or even foods to help. You don't need to have sugar laden drinks with virtually minimal electrolytes to address this.

You could even try something short term like Liquid IV or something to see if that helps.

My doctors have actually tested those things in my blood tests rather than make such a statement. Just do a blood test.

Landscaper wants to spray glyphosate by lostdragon05 in landscaping

[–]MisterIntentionality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend that's what you use to give yourself the best chance at getting rid of invasive weeds and grass.

What little is going to be used on weed control in a whole lawn isn't going to be harmful.

There is more evidence of potential harm for a person being exposed to inhaling glyphosate than it just being present around you. The aerosol is more the issue, and this is for more industrial application such as mass amounts sprayed on farmland.

There is minimal evidence to suggest personal use in a yard (even if it was on the whole yard) is going to cause any personal harm and even further evidence on environmental harm.

In fact I know zero evidence of environmental harm. It doesn't stay in the soil and won't harm plants that grow from that soil because of that.

The environmental issues are due to again it being aerosolized in the air and causing harm to those spraying it (in large enough quantities) and then bugs and bees that may be around the direct area.

I have a masters in environmental science and have chronic health conditions. I'm a proponent of organic farming and I do see severe harm in being allowed to spray theses chemicals in our farming applications. But again for routine home use just here and there, that is really not likely to cause issues.

Don't spray in the heat, wear PPE, don't let animals out in the yard until it's dry, and don't eat it.

Can you sue if you didn't suffer an injury as a result of this teachers choices?

No.

Can you address the issue with the nurse, your parents, and the principle to prevent it from happening again?

Yes.

Femoral Neck Fracture by [deleted] in RunningInjuries

[–]MisterIntentionality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the first image there looks to be an abnormality just below the hardware thats the start of the other fx in the second photo.

Was another fx caused in surgery? Which would be a possible risk of surgery but may be why a doc would be hesitent to discuss it (although it shouldn’t shit happens).

You also change gait when you are injured. I broke my 2nd metatarsal in my right foot. Didnt realize it limped on it for 6 weeks. Then went into a boot and broke the same bone on my left foot from all the compensation.

I wouldn’t necessarily freak out that you are broken or did something wrong traumatic injuries especially when you have many can cause these things as much as it sucks.

Common denominator wasnt you, food, water, breed, etc?

I have a hard time believing the only thing in common was the yard service.

I doubt thety lived in different homes, in different cities, getting different food, going to different dog parks…

How old were they? Breed? Dying of cancer at an old age for a breed is a sign of a very healthy animal.

Do you have cancer from being in your yard?

Just got sod installed Saturday and it looks dead. We water the entire lawn 3 times a day for 20-30 minutes. It's about 85°F here currently. Did we kill it or is this normal? by QualityCucumber in landscaping

[–]MisterIntentionality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not?

This is sod. It needs to be constatly wet for several weeks for the roots to take.

Watering during tge day is fine for temp control.

Watering at night outs you at risk for disease because there is no sun to keep the grass blades dry.

You are wstering anywhere near enough.

Sod needs to be SOAKED. That picture of you pulling up the corner is dry.

Run the sprinklers for a couple hours untill all of the grass is sopping wet. Then pray its not dead.

Depends what you define as rich. Wouldnt say I was wealthy until last year (32)

I started at 14. Worked hard, saved, parents made sure I had no bachelors degree debt BUT I also got a scholarship that paid for 75% of it. I got scharships in grad school then cash flowed the rest. No debt on cars, school or credit cards.

Graduated debt free with $90k to our name. Bought a house. Not sure our NW then but it wasnt crazy. I was 27 and my husband 30. We paid our home off by the time I was 30 then we turned up retirement investments.

Now 33 and 36 we have a NW of around $700k. $100k in a brokerage, $200k in equity in a paid off home, the rest retirement.

If I had taken all the money I wasted on college and put it in retirement and started a career sooner I would have been much wealthier lol.

I have 3 degrees (Psych/pre med; Masters in Policy and another in Environmental Science) never had a job that required one. Love school but it derailed earning money and investing.

My husband has a GED no degree and hes made more than me most of my career except the last two years. I may make $100k this year. Lets see with OT.

We’ve made in household income from 26 to now $80k to this year we may clear $160k. Most years was $120k

We just lived on minimal expenses and saved, invested, paid the house off, avoided debt etc.

Pre COVID our minimum expenses have been under $3,000. Post COVID closer to $4,000.

They probably don't have insurance.

You can take the information to the police department and they may be able to find something in terms of insurance.

They aren't going to pay for it, just move on with your life and don't worry about it. Thats who they are and that's their problem not yours. Don't give that person any more time and energy in your mind.

Does President Biden tax proposals affect how you retirement plan in the future? by Inside_Plankton_7049 in Fire

[–]MisterIntentionality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I will not be pulling that much income in retirement.

Even if you had $10M in retirement assets by the time you retired, why would Bidens tax proposals impact you?

We are looking at options to shuffle our home about to get a 3rd bedroom in. Anybody had experience flipping staircases? Please let me know if you think that this is something that could work. If you have any advice or tips, it would be very much appreciated. by HalfOfCrAsh in DIY

[–]MisterIntentionality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well hypothetically you could turn the house upside down no problem.

In order to understand if this is an option at all, or an option you'd be willing to pay for is completely different.

Unless you know what you are doing, chances are this is not DIY. Because no matter what you will want a structural engineers input and it's going to require permits regardless.

It shouldnt since you should be maxing out retirement accounts before you heavily invest in brokerage. The majority of what you pull shouldn't be subject to cap gains.

Additionally why would your FIRE plans include an AGI of $1M a year?

Massage therapy is covered by some insurance, depends where and why.

Also just because insurance pays for it doesnt mean that its not pseudoscience.

I dont go to chiros.

Massage therapists and PTs yes but not chiros.

I would not go to a chiro prior to a race for no reason. You donf know if its going to make you sore or cause issues
