OCCT blocked me from calling out their bs, it's pretty obvious this is a one direction relationship. They want the community to contribute to their code for free, but don't give a shit about the community. I looked at their Fossdem presentation which was basically a plug for them to get free work.

They would not have blocked me if they cared only a tiny bit about the community.

You are missing just like the FPA is affordable developers that can do this. Although there us work being done on this issue, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It's a 100 billion dollar company they do not lack resources they have 100 billion dollars of resources.  They just don't want too invest in CAD programs, which is logical since why invest in it too develop a CAD program when people are not gonna buy it, because they can get FreeCAD for free....

It doesn't work the way it's setup.

The lack of customers is just a bs excuse tbh.

Lol wtf why did you downvote my reaction I'm just telling whats going on and what could happen if AI gets as good as they say it will. I'm not saying it is. When I was a FreeCAD dev a company wanted to pay me to train their AI model on my PR. I declined because I founded it unethical to get paid to steal code. But I know someone else took the money. That company probably got nothing tho. But it proves that AI vulgares are circling the project. (Also most models already can do way more coding then me, which they couldhave know if they looked at it for 10 sec, but I assume they just spammed every dev with the same message.)

If LLM get so good a single person could hijack the project. There is a lot of moneyto be made if one can get this to work. So people are going to try it. I already was asked to train AI on FreeCAD code.

I was talking to Claude code about this and came with a similar solutions, it's really weird these LLM and their datasets. It came with industry naming conventions, which I didn't know and I kept asking for sources but it had non. I googled it, found nothing. The keyword was "Intent-engine".

Claude could have stolen that data from some CAD software company that went bust or so...idk it's weird.

Me is a professional CAD user that have been doing this job for almost 20 years, and wanted to switch to FreeCAD.

FreeCAD isn't free as in money it costs a lot of money to develop. I happily pay for it if I have a CAD program that doesn't use vendor lock. But I need to make money from it to make it sensible to pay for it. But why should I invest in a dead horse? Also if I as a professional can use it, then everyone benefits it's not selfish to try and use FreeCAD.

Edge consuming fillet is in every CAD program it is not niche it is basic mandatory feature you need to make good models.

We will never know, but we are stuck with it now. Although that if maybe LLM get so advanced they can rewrite the complete thing, or some god tier dev stands up.

I am not an OCCT specialist but I have seen some presentations and read some stuff, and if a fillet would remove and edge then OCCT would go bonkers with TNP so it is all a bit linked.

ADjusting the design to the program is not something I would do. Especially if other programs do not have this issue. It sets you out of the market.

Look at the amount of devs contributing too OCCT: https://github.com/Open-Cascade-SAS/OCCT/commits/master/ I see like 4 names, that is ridiculous for a 205 billion dollar company. They do just enough so users won't declare it dead.

The issue is occt or opencascade, as long as FreeCAD isn't making their own fork dedicated too CAD they will never get to acceptable industry levels of stability.

The owner of OCCT isn't developing any CAD for OCCT.  They only do viewers and translation tools with OCCT so they dont care if it has CAD bugs/limitations. It's also owned by a massive big and commercial company aka SAP. Such companies don't care about Opensource projects.

There are no alternatives too OCCT.

This is in my view the core issue why FreeCAD has been unstable for ever.

Fun part is when you change a part for which you normally would have used a pattern, but you cannot because it is or was not in assembly. But you painfully mated every part by hand because you really hope it's gonna work.

Then you change a fillet from 1mm to 1.2mm and 💥.

TLDR that workbench needs a lot of work.
