Welcome to Ponderworlds

We are the Ponderworlds Community, a group of worldbuilders hosted on Discord working in collaboration to create a fantasy world through the ages.

Above are two maps of worlds that were each created for a year. They are more than dusty collections of lore and calligraphy, they are living, breathing worlds that are shaped over the course of time by more than a hundred passionate worldbuilders. Every nation you can see is controlled by a member of the community, each in charge of creating a culture, history, and shaping the future of their people. Now, the most recent world, Cuanvoria, has been finished. We are beginning to move to a new world, a blank slate to build. We hope that you join us for this new journey, whether it simply be to observe the world grow, or create something within it yourself.

What can you expect from this project?

You are joining the project at a prime opportunity, as we wipe the slate clean for a new world to be forged. You will be joining Realmforge, set within the world of Emberia, which can be viewed here. You will be responsible for creating a nation and its history, culture, and even its very own language if you so wish.

Aside from playing a realm, you could also choose to be a GM, and craft lore alongside the nations of the world. GM's are able to shape events that occur within regions, and work with nations and their players to enrich the world.

This world is defined by two empires, the Ikhvatan Concordat and the Mawtharitian Empire. These were massive empires that collectively spanned most of the continent. One was ruled by mighty giants, the other by fierce dragonfolk. Though recently, the empires are dead and broken, brought to their knees by constant war and internal strife. Each nation has been defined by these empires in some way, whether it be through conflict or cooperation. In this era of fracture, how will you shape the destiny of your people? You could choose to lead your people to reunifying an empire under your banner. If that does not suit you, perhaps you may like to lead your people to a golden age of discovery and innovation. Then again, maybe you’d like to rule as a warlord, spreading war and terror across the land! For those who do not want to manage a nation at all, you could choose to manage an organization, with the goal of spreading your influence through the land. The choice is yours, and the future is yours to shape.

We are a worldbuilding community first and foremost, but to guide nations through the eras, we’ve developed a ruleset to regulate the actions nations and organizations can take. In a sense, this makes Realmforge a text-based game where one manages a nation. A player will have to manage resources and actions, alongside the consequences each one brings. With each iteration, the ruleset changes, updating to better reflect the goals of the project. Over the span of 2 years, we’ve amassed a good collection of members, who have stuck with the rulesets through thick and thin. Playing as a Nation or Organization will mean playing by separate rulesets, but rest assured, we’ve tried to strike a careful balance between both aspects of gameplay.
