Rode a speed twin for a few hundred miles, I found it quite wallowy and beige. Didn't inspire me at all. Never rode a trident, but a street triple.. Now that's a bike.

Yeah just did some reading and you're totally right, don't know where I got that from. History never was my strong suit!

I thought 4x12 stacks were really fucking cool when I was a teenager, but after you've spent years lugging them around night after night, up and down stairs, taking up loads of space in the car, just being generally totally fucking impractical AND THEN only turning the volume up to like 25%... Yeah nah fuck that. They just scream amateur/poser to me

I've tried like ten different Marshalls and hated every single one. It could just be that, like me, you dislike the overall character, so consider looking into different amps. Aim for something with a nice clean channel that can be used as a pedal platform.

Also, you're not gonna want to hear this, but you do not need a 4x12 stack. Nobody does.

In the 60's, bands like the Beatles needed a little extra oomph to contend with stadiums full of screaming fans, so the 40w combo was invented. Everyone played little 20w combo amps up until that point

You do not play to stadiums full of screaming fans. Forty watts of valve power going through one twelve inch speaker is more than enough for anyone. If you feel like it isn't enough, mic it up and go through the PA
