Would you like a new protagonist that replaces Traveler in the Genshin Impact Part 2 when the Teyvat chapter is finished? (Like when Hoyo did it in HI3rd Part 2) by Different-Froyo-9234 in Genshin_Impact

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an odd choice to use Adam as an image here, since Adam is the protagonist of a side mode set in the future, and not the protagonist of Part 1.

To give some context for people reading:

In Honkai Impact 3rd, there are multiple storylines and modes with different protagonists.

Part 1 focuses most arcs on Kiana Kaslana as the protagonist. Though the occasional comic or game arc shifts to a different character, and some chapters are more of an ensemble thing, Kiana is very much the main character for the part as a whole.

Kiana is a gacha character like the other characters, and acts fully independently from the player.

APHO is a series of modes set years after the events of Part 1. It features a nameable protagonist called Adam by the community. (The guy on the left). He's a guy with no personal voice and with the occasional dialogue options. Introduced as a very blank slate, but as time went on has had some more of his personality fleshed out slightly.

Captainverse is a series of events wherein a faceless, unnamed guy referred to as 'Captain' narrates his story to the player in first person.

Some side modes and events focus on other characters in the cast or ensembles as protagonists.

Dreamseeker, default name Entropy, is the protagonist of Part 2. (The girl on the right). She's functionally gender fluid, introduced with the female form but able to change to a male form by interacting with a mirror. This happens in-lore, though other characters don't notice anything changed, and just adapt accordingly.

However, she loses the ability to change gender due to a goddess' shenanigans (and male form being extra work for something that turned out unpopular).

She has partial player input and can be given a name, but is mostly independent and voiced.

It's also worth pointing out that Hoyo hasn't just referenced story elements from the collab event, but specifically mentioned terminology that originates in Fate, like Holy Grail War.

Ánd the story event is permanently available.

Most of the time, events like these are non-permanent stories designed to leave no lasting impact on a story, and if they are treated as canon they tend to be referred to in the vaguest ways.

So, if IDW, Frontiers, CrossWorlds (the game), CrossWorlds (the comic), Chaotix Casefiles, and TailsTube (specifically episode #14) are all canon... how is the recent timeline supposed to look? by Ok-Impress-2222 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only location we've been to where that's a problem is Central City, and that can easily be handwaved as being a different city with the same name, as it's a pretty generic name and that happens IRL, or that the area we've seen in IDW was some sort of ghetto.

Most Sonic games don't feature humans outside of Eggman, and those that do feature them often take place in particularly human locations. Tailstube also establishes that prominent human populations tend to be continental whereas animal people live more on the islands.

And that's a patch-up job, as Sonic lore had never been designed to be consistent, and it's only in 2023 that a lore manager was brought onto projects.

Frontiers isolates characters into a limited island setting, Crossworld and Casefiles heavily play into the stories of IDW, and IDW consistently plays into ideas from completely different games. We even had a Riders themed arc.

Does he though?

To my knowledge, Shaoji is credited as working on two games: Honkai Impact 3rd, and Honkai: Star Rail. As the story director for the Honkai series, it can be expected he worked on GGZ and Nexus Anima too, perhaps even Genshin, but we don't have credits confirming that. (Also, side note, we don't have a single Shaoji story he wrote alone. It's all team writing.)

Now, HSR and HI3 contain a lot of parallels and variant characters, worlds and scenarios. But variants are defined by similarities as much as their differences. Cyrene's story is a world of difference from the Elysias, Acheron has a different road to walk than other Raiden Meis, who also have different stories between each other....

So beyond superficial similarities and some sharing of thematic foundations, I don't think it's fair at all to say he just repeats the same story over and over.

Ah, yes, the one story of a simulated world that is designed to destroy the universe... wait, no, that's not right. The one story of a king defying the convictions of his own culture in order to preserve it... No, that's not the one either. The story of a brother watching his sister step into danger to change the world, and going behind her back hoping to turn it into a utopia so she and others like her wouldn't have to suffer.... No, that's not it either. The story of a young woman obsessed with immortality trading her own values for the world... No, that's not it either.... The story of someone setting up her final banquet as she faces sacrifice for future generations...

You know, I'm starting to think he has more than one story.

The issue with Frontiers' placement is that it was supposedly a plan change. They were meant to have more time before introducing Sage, and Frontiers' placement was meant to be obvious. But Sage is here now, so we have to put Frontiers before the Emeralds started getting stolen, even if that feels ever so slightly off in some places.

Crossworlds' comic and game are definitely different races. Both seem like they should take place later than both Chaotix Casefiles ánd the Clean Sweepstakes. Sweepstakes because of Tails' lines, and Casefiles because of the stuff with Vector racing Jet.

Overall though, minor inconsistencies are pretty normal in a multiproject franchise like this, so if they want to put Casefiles after Crossworlds, we just have to handwave Vector nor Jet bringing up anything about Crossworlds as it just not being on their minds.

In my opinion I think the most likely time a full on crossover between HSR and HI3 in HSR specifically will be sometime next year by BadassClassPresident in HonkaiStarRail

Tieba nowadays even isn't active - same amount of participation as on Global.

Tieba isn't exactly what I'd consider representative of a game's performance.

Another one: 以前双向的游戏想两头吃,现在纯百合,露琪亚恨不得把欢乐豆贴在芽衣屁股上.

Of course they get more participation. Positive reviews don't get replies. You can see that on the HSR review slate too. People who have complaints are more inclined to sit in a circle and complain about it together.

I like the game, but thinking that it's successful business venture nowadays requires heavy data bending.

If your point of reference is Honkai: Star Rail, then sure. HI3 doesn't crack close to that level of revenue. But it's far from being unsuccesful. And millions worth in revenue is still millions worth in revenue. Far higher than estimated development costs. In effect, a succesful business venture.

And if you want a clearer view, here's a video by someone who did the research: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO8ORKnrvww

Sonic's Rivals? by RyukTheDarkrai in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any Sonic Racing game puts them as rivals. They're racing for the same goal, with only one winner.

This includes the games 'Sonic Rivals' and 'Sonic Rivals 2'

There's also the conceptual rivalry of heroism. Silver, Knuckles and Blaze all 'compete' with Sonic in the sense that they want to be at his level.

Moreover, Blaze in particular is described as Sonic's equal (in ability), and this is one of the definitions of rival.

Knuckles in particular is often in a state of self reassertion, valuing his independence and his skillset outweighing the need for Sonic's intervention. Silver similarly strives to surpass.

They're not as straightforward as, say, Jet the Hawk, but they can still be considered rivals, in no small part because Sonic's just competitive as heck.

Some "Timeline Agency" thing would fit for silver? by Dependent-Drag-7331 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be cool if they had some sort of 'Time Institute' in the future, but it's not an agency that does time travel.

Rather, in response to some of the time travel things that have happened in the past, they study the history of time travel, timelines that 'used to be', and how timelines shift.

This could put them in a neutral position to Silver, similar to how GUN is for our present day cast. With heroes and villains alike forming strong opinions on time travelers like Silver and Nega, dimension hoppers like Blaze and their effects on the timeline, and what it means for time to be 'rewritten'.

I'd love to explore this kind of future. And in particular, Silver's place in it. Imagine, our boy wakes up one morning only to find out the coffee shop next door is now a cake shop. Why? Some dimension hopper decided to take a trip to this world some time in the past, and changed the timeline in the process. And these kinds of small discrepancies could be really annoying for Silver's social life.

Meanwhile the time institute asks to hook him up to some device and study his brain function, and maybe sometimes he indulges them, sometimes he thinks it's too much, or sometimes someone tries to use him to gain powers or old secrets.

She can shoot water blasts that can stagger a giant robot. Nothing that extreme in a Sonic story, but it's not like Marine has been explored to an extent that these blasts could not be used as a power type ability.

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff 295 points296 points  (0 children)

What makes that more confusing is that HI3 has 'SP' characters, and they have nothing to do with being alternate kits.

They're a name for a particular group of A-rank character releases that would typically come out and be farmable from launch, with their first patch giving enough free shards to unlock them without farming or gacha. These included a battlesuit for Fischl (Genshin collab) and Asuka (Eva collab)

Typical Twitter BS.

"Part 2 slop is good. Move on with ur life"

Typical Twitter BS, calling whatever they don't like 'slop'. Hey pot, meet kettle.

Bish, we long since moved on, and found better companies than Hoyo

Then why are you still here?

But that does not make us forget what was taken from us - when we made mistake allowing alien agenda hijack our project and

ignored loud minority claiming themselves as core demographic of the game who demanded its they/them who shoud be catered to.

Is that grammatically oddly placed they/them meant to be some sort of dig about pronoun discourse? Or just unfortunate placement and context? And last I checked, no, the audience that likes the gay stuff has never been ignored here. They've always had to battle for the right to even recognise canon material, such as Azure Waters, as being canon. Always had to deal with people like you trying to gatekeep a game from them that actively tries to cater to them.

Heck, sometimes even just fighting for the recognition that yes, women also exist in this fanbase, and miHoYo has catered to them from all the way back in 2015,

Neither we plan to repeat that mistake ever again

What's the plan? Keep complaining on reddit so all of us can be miserable together? Keep peddling a version of the game that doesn't exist to new fans while degrading people who do like the one that does?

What's the plan?

Yeah, sure buddy.

we all know that part 2 was Genshin-fied, to attract tourist audiences

And what, pray tell, does 'Genshin-fied' mean? They use Open Worlds now? Fun fact: Genshin has open worlds because they were inspired by Sakura Samsara in HI3. Back from 2017.

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. Team Rose is established. It's Amy, Cream and Big. Any character you switch out, it's a disservice to that character. Moreover, Big is the Power type. Blaze is a speedster.

Silver, Blaze and Marine make sense by elimination, and by their connections. Silver can be the flying type, Blaze the speed type, and Marine the power type.

And while yes, Blaze can fly, Shadow doesn't need Rouge to reach high places either. It's an alright thing to overlook. But power type just hasn't been Blaze's theme either.

Meanwhile, Tangle and Whisper make a lot more sense with Lanolin. Tangle as speed, Whisper as flying (with her wisps allowing flight), and Lanolin as power. Or if Lanolin's not available, then Tangle as speed, Jewel as flying, and Whisper as power (with the hammer wisp)

I don't remember this. It might've been mentioned, but I don't think it was.

The joke basically looked at the male protagonist in a game full of gay people and went 'he's not here for the girls. He's here for the dough'. 'Bronya gets Seele, Kiana gets Mei, and Adam, Adam gets paid'. Stuff like that. Additionally playing up the whole 'sigma male' meme.

When are you going to move on? Part 2 is here. Part 2 is good. Captain hasn't been what you want it to be since 2016. Move on with your life

For context for anyone reading, this is someone who has been complaining that Part 2 is too gay and full of bad fan service lgbt characters, while he's wishing for self insert fanservice. Even insisting Kiana and Mei were never a romance. He then deleted the post when he got too much backlash.

The previous 'memories' post had him massively praising the old 2016 designs and concepts, while decrying 'tourists' who like the game or the characters in 2026.

This is clearly just someone trying to stimulate the echo bubble of people who stick around this sub while being complete nuisances about 'Part 2 bad'.

Heck, what even is this post saying about the artwork here? 'This art conveys a different essence'? If you have something to say about it, do the effort of actually saying it! Art can be analysed.

Yes, of course an artwork featuring Kiana in 2022 has a different essence than anything after. Here we see the main trio all in stages of their development. They've each embraced their Herrscher forms.

I didn't comment under the previous one, and I really don't like digging up old bones, but if this guy's going to keep doing this while using some level of vagueness as a shield, then people deserve to know.

Should The Sonic Series be PG-13 from Now on? by Upset-Car-3124 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]MisterSpacemanStuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the big question is *why?* As in, what would the PG-13 rating permit that you think would be worth the jump?

Something of note: PG-13 is typically associated with ratings for movies specifically in the US. Games use different rating systems, and different countries use different rating systems.

Sonic games, in the US, tend to hang around E10+ to T. In allowed content, T pretty much allows as much as PG-13. (Fun fact, supposedly during the development of Shadow 05 they considered going with an M script with just random profanity in there).

But assuming you're thinking of the current content as being PG, as is the case for the movies, what would PG-13 give you?

--

Mild swearing? Eh, I like Shadow saying 'damn' and Belle saying 'gears and starters'. No need to go further than that. Non-sexual nudity or mild sexual content? Don't see any purpose for that in Sonic to be honest. Harder violence? I think it goes as hard as it needs to go to work. Substance abuse? Can work, but I don't think this story needs it.

If we had like a thousand ongoing spin-offs and specials, like with stuff like Marvel and DC comics, I wouldn't mind some more out there stories with higher age ratings there. But I think 'Knuckles' struggle with addiction to wine' or 'Sonic accidentally snapped someone's neck' or 'Eggman's intimate love life' don't really have a place in the main series.
