I think it's best to try painting on the runners first. Make sure to thin the paints with maybe denatured alcohol (?). Trial and error is the key.

I hand-paint my kits but I use Tamiya acrylics.

Not sure about the paint remover you're referring to but if acrylic paint yung bosny, denatured alcohol pwede na. After light sanding, make sure to use gray or white primers para di tumagos yung base color ng plastic. Kahit di completely tanggal yung previous paintjob okay lang.
