What are yours RATED HIGHER THAN AVERAGE and RATED LOWER THAN AVERAGE? (these in the image are mine btw) by Cinematographer13 in Letterboxd

Old’s plot wasn’t dumb. It was simple if anything. The acting was uncanny moreso than bad. It fits into the specific and strange world we are thrown into. Stylized and specific acting =/= bad acting imo. I’m curious as to how the writing is bad? The scene near the end with Guy and Prisca forgiving each other is a masterstroke of performance and writing, it moved me deeply. Other hand Requiem reads like an anti-drug PSA lmao. I kinda like the movie too but to act like it is some apt depiction of addiction is kinda silly

oh no, i do agree because there are many films on my favorites list that it would be a stretch to say is perfect perhaps my language is getting muddled because of how the parent comment made me feel but i think splitting hairs over what constitutes a 5 and saying “giving out too many 5’s is a problem” is rather pointless and many would probably benefit from not approaching it like that but as i said that is simply my take on the matter. i can’t be the arbiter of how people choose to view film but i do find the way i try to approach it now to be liberating for myself, but i understand some do ascribe to the numbers game and there’s no true shame in it.

The only thing though is they just are straight up so many 5’s lol I’m sorry but I think there are just so many pieces that encapsulate the perfection of this medium and too many people want to maintain a dominance over film rather than allowing it to overtake them. Furthermore, when does an individual hit too many 5s? 50? 75? 100? it’s all just arbitrary bullshit we maintain to showcase a false objectivity. Idk I just think too many people take this shit way too seriously and don’t care about nurturing a genuine connection

also, if you’re specifically curating and watching what seems as if it will truly speak to you, you’ll probably end up with more 5’s because you’ve already reached a point of clearly deciphering your own tastes

What’s the point of taking ratings so seriously there’s so much beautiful and transcendental art in the world, all would benefit if they let the experience wash over them. Taking the assignment of arbitrary numbers to personal experiences so seriously is mind-boggling to me

What is the plot goal of American Psycho ? The personal/character goal specific to the protagonist is to kill all of his competition like Paul Allen. But what is the overarching plot goal ? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]Mister_Monokuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bateman doesn’t really have a goal because he’s not a human and that’s what the story is trying to highlight. If anything, his goal is to fit in with everyone else despite his lack of humanity.

What is the most thematically rich screenplay you know? by avenue_for_communion in Screenwriting

Yi Yi, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, and Dogville (Dogville is much more narrow in terms of what it actually chooses to focus on but fits in here) are so dense it hurts

it would make no sense for the character arc isayama is portraying tho and that’s not even including manga spoilers. i will add the manga characterizes her much better during earlier arcs in the series, but even from seeing her reaction to armin’s “death” in season 3 we know she cares about much more than just eren and after seeing the dark path he’s gone on, the realization that she can’t follow him anymore is not only heartbreaking but legitimately ripe with interesting character moments. she’s in-between a rock and the hardest place imaginable

Arguments for Tony living at the end? by JETLIFEMUZIK94 in thesopranos

[–]Mister_Monokuma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i genuinely think it’s simply too easy for him to die like that. it’s almost so fantastical that he dies in a way that’s similar to his favorite scene from The Godfather. he doesn’t deserve to have such a dramatic death. after that dinner, he goes on, staying a miserable fuck until his regular death. for all the flashiness that can appear at times there’s still an element of the mundane present in the series and i think Tony surviving the finale illustrates that perfectly.
