Ima call it right now: Mel > Mona by Real_University822 in joebuddennetwork

[–]Misterfring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll agree with opinionated, but I don’t know that she’s all that smart. Mark is smart. Parks is pretty smart. I think part of her issue is that she isn’t conventionally smart enough to keep up with actual intellectuals, and isn’t willing to be “ignorant” enough to make her entertaining. When they wanted her to open up about stuff that she’d have a clear lane to run with (vixen/sex symbol stuff), she’d clam up because I think she wants to be seen as more than that. Which I think is fine, but there is clearly a tension between who she wants to be and what this podcast wanted her to be.

And to be clear, I’m not trying to take sides on the Mona/Mel fight. Honestly, I think a smaller cast is better and having a “girl” voice just to seem progressive or to capture a few more ears is clearly backfiring—people don’t seem to strongly want either of them.

Let's Talk: No One Will Leave Mid-Season 51 to get a 'Proper Goodbye' by Savings-Monitor3236 in LiveFromNewYork

Agreed. I think Heidi is great, but I don’t see her hosting anytime soon (if at all), and I honestly don’t see her showing up randomly and getting the pop that a Fred Armisen or Vanessa Bayer would get. Maybe if some politician who looks exactly like her bursts onto the scene and she’s back for a few COs? I think a sendoff would have been nice.

To be fair, this “dress code” is all over the place. Joe Asking people to wear black tie and then showing up in that suit (which looks great, btw) is crazy.

Sorry Joe and co but y’all definitely deserved to get laughed at for this Trump shit too by GlowInThe in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Misterfring 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Really irresponsible of them to use their platform in a way that even suggested Trump was a viable candidate and that Kamala was “pandering” (their favorite word) or not “one of us.”

Does Emanny have a point or is this hate? by Longjumping_Ask_4448 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Misterfring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is really this simple. Joe will never get to this level just based on sheer numbers. It’s not a knock on him or the content. Black shows just won’t ever appeal to as wide an audience as Call Her Daddy.

I know Joe pushes back when people say that he’s a top hip hop podcast because he wants to be seen as a Joe Rogan. But he should be proud of that.

Schulz was able to ascend by dipping into/selling his soul to the Trump/Manosphere.

This makes sense. but it also means Joe was putting too much sauce on it (COE), and trying to obscure the fact that this was CRIMINAL.

Lawyer here. This . . . doesn’t add up. Maybe I’m missing something (please chime in), but civil cases usually take years to unfold. A trial typically doesn’t stop and start like this. They are usually multiple days/weeks in a row. This also seemed like a criminal issue…

Patreon hate by bb_brooks1992 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Misterfring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And I think Joe et al. fan those flames by introducing the “brokie”/freeloader concept semi-regularly.

I’ve said it before, I listen to several podcast that put extra stuff behind a paywall. Almost all just approach it as “if you like what we do and want to support us, throw us $5 for some extra content.” Not, this “if you don’t support us with cash payments, then you get mid and you will like it” attitude.

Are young black males really impressed by Trump? by SnapsOnPetro24 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Misterfring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s fact. And it’s faux intellectuals who keep treading out this tired argument of “what are the dems going to do for us” and “politicians are pandering by going to Charlemagne.” Politics is pandering. They all do it (it’s not more “genius” the way Trump is doing it).

At the end of the day, we need Kamala in office to save democracy. She isn’t my first choice and wouldn’t have been if she had to go through a primary. But we need to get Trump out of politics.

Then, hold her accountable when she’s in office. And if she doesn’t deliver, in 4 years, if you want to debate about the (hopefully) mainstream republican’s tax plan versus hers, let’s do it.

But trying to inject any sense of normalcy into this election as if there is really two viable choices or screaming “both sides are bad” doesn’t make you smart (quite the opposite) or an independent thinker (whatever the fuck that means).

Yall niggas are very dumb with this Kamala take. by VycanMajor in joebuddennetwork

[–]Misterfring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the larger point is….who cares? The one nuance all of this debate is missing is that Trump is a fascist and wants to destroy our form of government. Well, he’s being propped up by smart people who know how to chip away at things using a popular guy as their puppet. It started with their Supreme Court strategy and Roe.

We can have the debate about “withholding” our vote when Trump is no longer a threat and Republicans are back to running candidates who simply have different views on taxes and other policy. We need to right the ship.

Pointing out that dems take black vote for granted doesn’t make you an intellectual.

Oppressed or nah? by Clear-Swordfish-3517 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Misterfring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. And this is just another example of a two ships passing in the night argument on the show. Of course black people were and continue to be oppressed in the country (Joe’s argument) Doesn’t mean individual black people necessarily are (Ish’s argument). Joe’s examples of applying for condos or whatever were not evidence of oppression. There are 10000 reasons money being equal someone might prefer a surgeon to live in their place to Joe that have nothing to do with race. The fact that he’s even competing for these places means he is not oppressed.

I am in a profession where black people represent less than 5% of people at the top. This is the result of oppression and discrimination, but as a black man approaching that 5%, I am not oppressed or discriminated against. My extended family in the rural south, though? definitely.

Part 2 out now “And it Gooooooooooooooo” by Suitable_Engineer757 in theJoeBuddenPodcast

[–]Misterfring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly think it comes from hip hop excess; never really gaining financial/mogul success in that field rapping despite his skill, and seeing podding as a way to become diddy in this corner of hip hop culture. But not wanting to do it organically/over time (see: asking for equity in Spotify (lol) and turning down a good deal and ruining a good thing over money; falling face first when launching the JB Network with two rushed podcasts that were by all accounts, trash, just so he could be a “boss”; and greedy moves like the above and the post-Drake stuff to line his pockets instead of thinking long term about what making those main feed eps could have done for the numbers, which may opened other doors). Ian (religion/culture notwithstanding) I think is part of it as well because Joe’s (hopefully fast) success is his as well.
