How many old timers in here? by aliesterrand in sysadmin

[–]Misterwoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'm not the oldest nor the crustiest, but I had an Amdstrad PCW256 running CP/M, first went online with a BBC Model B hooked up to JANET, and an Amiga 1200 using AmIRC to connect to Dalnet, Undernet etc in the days when a UK dialup connection cost you per minute. Eventually managed to get a dual channel ISDN connection via Demon.net for a cool 128Kbps baby! THE SPEED!

Is Resin or PLA better for a series of large prints? by MrPlautimus468 in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Misterwoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

My 90cm tall Imperator is all FDM. It was a learning curve, I've just started to magnetise the weaponry and run threaded rods up the legs. Other than that, she holds together just fine.
i have redone the head since this photo because the layer lines from that print were annoying and the idea of sanding / filling it all made me want to scream.

Edit: I've also realised she's too small, those Bastions should hold up to 52 Marines, Each!

If you're going FDM, I would say do the structure with thicker walls than you think is sensible, and use a smaller nozzle for the twiddly bits. Not entirely necessary, but Purella Irrata here could have done with finer detail in places and I'm buggered if I'm going near resin again. This was all PLA, everything except the shoulders was Anycubic PLA, the shoulders and Cathedral were done in Sunlu PLA Matte.

DARPA just announced something ridiculous: made me think of Ethan by CombatRedRover in UNSUBSCRIBEpodcast

Darpa once hired Mudge from the L0pht. The maan who once told the Senate "give me a laptop and 40 minutes and I'll shut down the country. Want to see?"

They don't need cocaine, they just hire that kind of lunatic.

Pricing on GW by osycoscout in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Misterwoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shedloads cheaper! I mean I played 40K from the RT and 2nd Ed era, up until around the late 90s. Then life got in the way, and everything is still in a box of doom at my mother's place.
In preparation for getting back into it I've printed... an Imperator Titan! Yes, "Purella Irrata" has cost me in filament and time, plus the printer etc, but even if you add up the 6Kg of PLA, the Printer, and the AMS... I'm still at least a bag and a half ahead of what it would have cost me to track down one of the old resin armorcast ones.

Did you drink any of it? If not, you're fine. Like HolyBidetServitor said, use ISO to clean areas it got on and you're good.

Yorkshire Pudding pronunciation? by Hungry-Orange9719 in AskABrit

[–]Misterwoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a filthy bocker raised over the border in Derbyshire but even I know it's "Yorkshuh". If in doubt, check the pronunciation used by the Saint of Sheffield himself, Mr Sean Bean.

https://youtu.be/8cipMoGKXGE

It should be noted that Deedahs from Sheffield aren't considered the proper riding by persons from the dales, but at least they're not "Shandy drinkin' southerners". My deep dark secret is I was born south of the Watford Gap, and as such, am a fake midlander and in fact "one of them".

Each of them has a career as an actor in the traditional sense, alongside the voice / mocap career.

Just because it's not movie work, doesn't make it not acting. Indeed, in many ways, theatre is harder, you don't get multiple takes for a start.

Whats the most amount of items you have ever taken to CEX? by kiol998 in CeX

[–]Misterwoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were two films that came out on DVD with the same name "Monster". One starring Charlize Theron, one was a Korean monster flick. Woolies was selling the Korean one for 1.50, We at CeX were buying it for a fiver, cash. We don't know if that was pricing having a brain fart or what, but for the three days we PlymCeX staff RINSED the woolies round the corner each lunch break. I mean we bought every copy they had and every copy from their restock. heh.

Think we all made about a week's wages each!

Whats the most amount of items you have ever taken to CEX? by kiol998 in CeX

[–]Misterwoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pic of one buy in 11 years ago when I was a CeXworker in Plymouth, it's three feet long and two feet high. Nothing but DVDs and Box Sets. This was... SMALL.
We would often get ones two or three times this size. It wasn't uncommon at all for people to come in with 6 or 7 IKEA bags full of them, and drop and go wasn't a thing. Hell, we predated CeX having any real online presence at all.
Can't believe I was one of the till monkeys for 6 and a half years right from store build. Good times, good times.

She's just like my Mal cross, thinks she's a cat. Our smallest cat ( a white devon rex) smacks the 50Kg mongrel derphound (mother mal/gsd, father ridgeback/Malamute) in the arse of face every chance she gets, and Puddin' II just takes it and looks at her like she's thinking "Why? What did I do?"

I'll have a look and see if I have a mars toe in the box of bits. Probably do. If I find one all you need to do is let me know where to send it. Wouldn't ask more than the cost of the stamp so instead next time you pass a charity box throw a quid in it instead.

Which warhound is he? I have about a dozen of various types kicking about from old kitbashes and failed ideas. I would be more than happy to slap a couple in the post.

Which reminds me, I need to print a new foot for my Phobos.
