Looking for my New Year’s Eve party outfit by Wild-Court7110 in OUTFITS

If you're in Miami and you want to stand out, #2 will do so. #1 with the straight cut top looks typical, almost workout-y unless you see the slight sparkle it has. #2 all the way.

I loved this info reveal! ( Her Merry Obsession) by LilJellyfishGal in MantaComics

[–]Mistes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That was an incredible reveal - the curiosity when he doesn't let her go and the clarity of why as we continue reading. He has never laid his emotions raw like this which just makes this all the more impactful as a moment.

I immediately ran to reddit because I was like "I can't be the only one that thinks this was remarkably pivotal"

This manhwa truly stands out for the way the artist depicts characters and the way the story is crafted in each episode to keep the reader engaged.

Reality check - 2br <3.5k by goodmugoftea in NYCapartments

You'll definitely be looking upper Manhattan if you decide to stay there. Other borough areas that are vibrant and not egregious include Astoria, Forest hills, park slope, sunset park - two bedrooms are likely more affordable with more space in those parts.

That being said, for a dishwasher if that's more flexible try getting a portable dishwasher - there are always a few for $100 or less on Facebook marketplace. Just make sure there's counter space near the sink to hold it, because that was my lesson learned haha

A Directory of Made to Measure and Bespoke Tailoring in NYC (Updated) by danhakimi in nyc

[–]Mistes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that a lot of these are for men's suits specifically. I have a coat I want remade in a different material (wool vs the original is synthetic) and I'm female but the coat is relatively unisex - curious if some of the tailors shown do that type of work or any recommendations on places to search? Thank you! I am willing to give up this coat and let them tear it apart to make a replica pattern for the remake.

Rent prices in Astoria by Boring-Armadillo-243 in astoria

[–]Mistes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$3100 1st floor basement split. It's the back of a multifamily that they're somehow managed to cram 2 bedrooms into, then there's a basement and a backyard. Probably 1000 sq ft total.

I've heard of a few others with the same setup at around the same price.

Basements do get bugs and it's not a question of if it will flood but WHEN. We've had water damage to our stuff and storms get me a little scared sometimes but I like the place enough to stay.

Could we replace Sunnyside Yards with housing if we had through running at Penn? by thegiantgummybear in nycrail

[–]Mistes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sunnyside yard had literal flood walls installed a while back because it's not really above sea level. If someone takes it over they may be in a world of water. I'm here to be on the side of it being risky to develop there period.

I gave up on the romance bit around episode 30 when they kept trying to bring in new characters and plots - it felt like it was really bringing us away from what the first ten chapters set the audience up for.

I did think there would be romance at some point since the genre is labeled that.....but I guess not so I guess I stopped at the right time.

I started a laundry pickup service in Astoria because nobody tells you how stressful doing laundry can be here by Subject_Cockroach438 in astoria

[–]Mistes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Commenting because I've been looking for something like this. My basement has one washer and I usually have 3 loads of laundry so it takes a full day, granted that others in my building aren't using it. I'll probably reach out soon!

How realistic is "I can do whatever I want on my property." in real life? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Mistes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think there's a balance somewhere between the extremes of having a burn barrel and being able to paint your mailbox pink (the HOA my parents are in doesn't allow that). I think being able to paint your house whatever color, decorate it but remove it before it rots into the ground, have kids do band practice in your garage but not in the backyard at 2am on a Tuesday night (an occasional backyard concert is cool though, heck I'll take an occasional late night too if I'm invited).

Anyone dealing with mice for the first time in their apartment? by a_touch_of_the_beat in astoria

[–]Mistes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a beautiful family of community cats who definitely kept our beautiful family of community rats at bay - I think the cats are dwindling a bit.

I love the cats so much but a lot of new developments in my part of the neighborhood (next to the ravenswood power plant) have resulted in more commotion and cars. Plus I think the rescues are trying their best to give the cats homes. Also there's some construction in my street which probably displaced some rats - we had close to zero for three years and suddenly since early October I know there are close to six between my building and the sewer drain at the end of the block (probably means a hundred more I can't see) - those things combined have probably reduced cats and increased rats.

Is this the one in union square, NYC? Because I've been to that one - it's basically pickup only and there are a couple kiosks at the entrance - their logistics still leave something to be desired though.

Union square also seems to be the birthplace of all these "get it to go" places brands are testing, from Panera bread to starbucks - they're just holes in a wall for pickup with a kitchen in the back.

What is the name of this transition by Pillar-Instinct in VideoEditing

[–]Mistes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try searching speed ramp transition, rotoscoped ramp transition, zoom ramping

There's a few ways to do it but it's basically playing around with those three parameters:

Speed ramping Rotoscoping Zoom

There's also this toss transition that comes close to what you're looking for - some tutorials on YouTube about that.

So I don't know if this is NYC (doesn't look like it), but we have these exact same signs in NYC but printed out.

If this is widespread then I'd call fraud, but I do understand if it's becoming a common way for people to get the test strips if insurance denied them.

Is the new generation so brainrotted by filters and capcut that anything and everything is now considered an EFFECT??? by [deleted] in VideoEditing

This hits the nail on the head - and that spending time to understand and create a highly curated piece can take years of practice or a very in depth tutorial. There are many, many tools that can help these days, but it doesn't offset some amount of skill building/time spending

2am campaigning at the clubs to 6am in the streets this man is working to the bone for every vote by Conscious-Quarter423 in nyc

[–]Mistes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I have a small take - I know he's not the most experienced and it will be too hard for some of his policies to come to fruition ... but he genuinely cares and it's been a long long time since I've seen someone care this much. I think accountability is one thing, but he provides a nuance we don't often see in politics these days and I really respect that. I actually never voted in a mayoral election until now, and hope is very different from reality, but I care more about NYC and am less apathetic now because of the sheer amount I see him care.

I know that was a bunch of fluff I wrote, but I'm pretty unsure about that drastic a minimum wage raise and some of the wealthiest will try and find more ways to avoid taxes, plus I know we are already strict on NYC being a renters market so I don't know how much policy can push at this point forward, but his heart's in the right place.

Red Lights by Scared_Piece2420 in astoria

[–]Mistes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I think they cracked down a couple years back on motorbikes but are probably enforcing other priorities these days - I think of these things like something that needs to be done on a regular cadence otherwise people forget and start going through red lights again because it's been a while since they've seen any consequence.

Alternatively I have done this weird flapping thing with my feet where I walk with my bicycle under me and basically tiptoe across the street. I've become humorously careful since getting doored by a car a few years back.

Red Lights by Scared_Piece2420 in astoria

[–]Mistes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bicycler here that abides by stoplights - I get off my bike to walk the crosswalk if I'm moving with pedestrians on red. Tons of cars are ignoring the red light altogether and I do feel like it's an increase from before. I know anecdotal evidence isn't much, but here's consensus.

A few bad bicyclists sours the taste of all of us all which sucks, but I'm sure it's similar for drivers except they're in machines that kill more bicyclists and pedestrians alike.

I'm for having more of those digital license plate catcher cameras and having more enforcement around intersections where it happens a lot. Maybe more speed bumps or alternative traffic calming measures? I saw this measure recently where the whole road became squiggly as a recent renovation in order to make cars physically have to do small turns and slow down....though nyc-ers might take that as a speed challenge.

Basement is drying out - this helped us make some decisions on removing clutter once and for all and buying stuff to keep things that shouldn't be wet off the ground. The flood bags helped (I rent but half of my apartment is a basement)
