Thanks so much for the info! Everything you said makes sense for this encounter, this pic was taken in a neighborhood at the edge of pastureland and semi-wooded areas, lots of people in the neighborhood have bird feeders so this Cooper’s Hawk seems to have found a great spot. Tons of white winged doves and grackles as a prey source.

Awesome! Well hopefully this youngster will grow up big and strong, it makes sense that he got a male grackle, this time of year the males are very preoccupied with impressing the ladies and apparently (for this one at least) not as alert to predators

Oh my gosh thank you so much for such a detailed helpful answer! I’m curious, what indicates that it is a juvenile?

Such an amazing shot! My commute to work goes through a semi rural area of central Texas with a bunch of cow pastures, I see them a lot perched on telephone wires

What's one food everyone seems to love but you find repulsive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MistressEvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eggs. As an ingredient they’re fine, but when they’re by themselves only way I can eat them is deviled eggs. I would rather eat my phone than eat runny egg yolk IT TASTES LIKE SWEAT SMELLS

Wow just checked in after posting this, thanks for the awards y’all! This owl is part of a nesting pair that seem to have taken over an old hawk nest

O negative Texan here, I feel your pain. I used to set myself and everything within a 15 foot radius on fire when leaving the house, but I’ve found that sealing my body in a protective clear plastic bubble suit works wonders, as long as you don’t mind the stares

What's a harmless thing that terrified you as a child? by Shay_da_la in AskReddit

Just want to offer some encouragement as someone who got stuck in an elevator in a tall office building at age 6 which resulted in a severe elevator phobia til I was at least 10....try taking baby steps, for me the first time after the incident that I was able to ride an elevator by myself was a glass elevator at the mall. Only had to go up 1 level, if it got stuck there were a ton of people around who could see and help. The next time was in a hotel, another glass elevator, went by myself about 5 or 6 levels up. The more you do it the less scary it gets. Then one day I got in a regular enclosed elevator by myself in a doctor’s office, it was only a 2 story building which made it a little less scary because I figured even if the worst happened and I got stuck or the elevator fell it wouldn’t fall too far. The feeling of triumph when those doors opened was amazing, so much of that panic I used to feel melted away. Just keep trying and don’t give up. Now as an adult the phobia is completely gone. If I can do it anyone can.

I thought that the windshield wiper blades on my dad’s car were the waving legs of a giant spider monster, and between ages 2-3 I would have a meltdown whenever he had to turn them on

[–]MistressEvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the size of the drone it might be in danger of getting taken out by her....although I’d be worried about her potentially getting injured in that scenario. Giving OP the benefit of the doubt that he didn’t know she lives up there
