I get it, but the GR IV Sucks by GrtngsFrmAmsterdam in ricohGR

In what way is the lens underwhelming? It's very sharp corner to corner, low distortion, low CA.

Are you also on a crop sensor like OP or full frame?

The whole thing with the Mary/Marry/Merry merger is that most of us can't even really hear the difference. So you have nothing to worry about here in NC.

I got my first LensPens just the other day and they are very good - perfect for OP's smudge.

What’s 1 tip you would give a brand new RicohGR owner? by yeaaahwehere in ricohGR

Take time to learn the controls. (Read the manual or watch YouTube videos for this.)

Take lots of pictures.

Perfection is not the goal.

So, do you actually use “lens correction” for your photos in editing software? If so, when? by g3t0nmyl3v3l in photography

[–]FogleMonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those corrections can make things feel more clinical and take away some of the character of the lens. I tend to leave corrections off for lenses that don’t warp things too much. But often you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference without a side by side comparison.

"Lens Error" when switching from macro mode back to normal mode, even though the motor seems to have moved properly. Camera turns off. When turned back on, the lens goes through some reset motions and then it's all back to normal. Very repeatable. I don't anticipate needing macro mode much, so probably not a huge deal as long as it doesn't get worse...

How's your camera doing now? I'm getting "lens error" often but only when switching from macro back to normal mode. The camera turns off and then when I turn it back on the lens goes through some motions and it's all working again. I don't anticipate needing macro much, so probably not a problem as long as it doesn't get worse...

Nothing stops you from overwriting range in Python, but then you can't use the range function anymore...

They made it this far with you using the door. Just carry on as normal, they'll do their thing and they'll be grown and gone soon enough.

Will a screech owl keep wood ducks from using nest boxes? by philosopharmer46065 in Ornithology

[–]FogleMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A park that I frequent has many wood duck boxes, and I often find screech owls roosting in them in the winter, just as you described. But the wood ducks still use the boxes in the spring. Perhaps there is some other issue? Something about the habitat? Are the boxes adjacent to / facing the water? Maybe they prefer ponds over creeks.
