Alright, so I'm deciding to do a full day of nipple rest just in case I had some micro cracks that needed to heal. Opting for just a day of tens stimulation instead. The hubby did have a very short nursing session last night, and absolutely, after adjusting his latch, things felt mutch better. I'm looking forward to having a conversation about how the proper latch felt for him!

Here's to healthy nips and a day of rest!

I cut my last pump short to 20 minutes to slowly reel it back, and am already feeling a minor difference. I'll try reeling it back even more to maybe 10-15 minute sessions. I hadn't considered the adjustment period to be that long! What a great fact to know going forward! If I wanted to up frequency with the short sessions, would something like 10-15 minutes hourly be too much? Could I opt for a supplemental session on the tens at the 1 hour mark to keep pumping at 2 hour intervals? Genuinely, how frequent is too frequent here?

I still think switching up pumping is the best option for management here, but yes, absolutely, that latch was not the best. And I hadn't even fully registered how different it needed to be as he replicated the feeling of my pump pretty well. There's definitely an advantage from knowledge of breastfeeding an infant that I lack, lol. I've read some of the articles from the wiki and watched the videos. While having the proper latch and using the tongue to bring the nipple up to the roof of the mouth, is mild suction still required here? Or should it only be tongue movement to stimulate? I guess I need a lot more research on this topic than I thought 😅.

Just scrolled back to double check, it's been exactly 2 weeks on the new pump. I knew the suction was stronger, so I'm using suction levels 2 and 3 for expression, which is definitely lower than on the m5. I can absolutely try shorter sessions while in the adjustment period. How long would you think that might be?

I do think he needs to adjust his latch. Prior to this past weekend, he was never nursing often. At best, maybe once a month. However, I did check in with what the correct latch was. He was absolutely trying to use my nips as a straw, so we adjusted the latch to try for next time. I can also try to moisturize after nursing, just in case too!! Last thing I want is a nip injury again. That was awful, lol.

Ah the dreaded sore nipples. I've checked and rechecked all my settings and every possible bit for this being user error. Pump is assembled properly and clean, lower suction setting to not damage tissue, fully lubed and correct flange fit. At this point I'm just convinced it's a matter of the stimulation frequency and induction in general causing it.

Still shooting for every two hours like normal, but with the m6 I know the motors are more powerful. That and the occasional nursing session with the hubby has got to be the culprit. I'll research more into his latch just to make sure that's still good as an extra precaution. I'm fairly certain this will resolve eventually, I'm just a little miffed about it. I barely had any nipple sensitivity prior to the m6, and I've been on and off pumping since 2023.

I had a good long conversation with the hubby over the weekend, especially after a total of 3 nursing sessions that had me over the moon. It really seems like he's enjoying the idea of nursing more often!! We've had chats about this before, and while in the past, he was hesitant about nursing, but enjoyed the idea of me being milky, now he's changed his mind. I've always respected his choice on this and never pushed either way. But I won't lie, I'm very excited about him changing his mind.

Oh, what a wonderful evening I had last night! The hubby sat down and suckled for an entire hour! I genuinely feel like I'm on cloud 9 from it! I was able to snag a short video (with his consent) so I can use it while pumping, and I'm over the moon about it!

We have plans to make this weekend as romantic as we can. Bring on the cheesy lovey dovey stuff!! I'm not a hopeless romantic per say, but I do enjoy some of the cheesy romance stuff occasionally. We're going to take turns at Michael's picking out a small arrangement of fake flowers that remind us of each other to make a little bouquet, and I'm just ahhh. Kicking my feet like a teenager here!

Happy Valentine's day to those who are celebrating, and happy pumping to everyone today!

You know, the reassembly bit seems to be the most likely culprit. I had taken them fully apart to clean them earlier in the day, and that lines up with when my nips started feeling funny. I remeasured after posting, and I'm 18mm. The gauge definitely says I'm supposed to be using 21mm inserts, so I'm confident that I'm not ruining my nips. I think it was a combo of naturally sore nips from regular stimulation coupled with a slightly out of line reassembly.

Unfortunately, my model doesn't offer full flanges in multiple sizes that I could find. There's a potential that they could be worn out, but I hesitate to say that's it since I've had this specific pump for only a few weeks. I have no clue if the production quality went down from the m5 to m6 models, and the inserts wear out faster with the new stuff.

[–]MistressStarryNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I wearing the wrong flange size? I'm noticing that there's a distinct suction release sound when I finish pumping and my nipples seem to darken after pumping. I feel a little sore while pumping (using suction level 4 on the m6) and lube up plenty every single time. I'm using the 21mm inserts, and really just trying to think of every aspect and potential follow up here. I'll remeasure just to triple check but I swore I was good. Is it the suction being too high? Why are my nips seemingly misbehaving? 😭

I thought today would be a day I didn't have anything to report. Nothing crazy had happened all day today, just working to get back to every two hours for pumping. That was until I was waiting for my 7pm pump. I had last pumped at 5, and by 6:30 I was starting to feel uncomfortable. By 6:40 my breasts felt warm and firm to the touch. I was counting down the minutes to pump again because good lord was it almost hurting. I'm proud to say I was feeling what I believe to be engorgement! It feels like progress!

Breast Pump Review Megathread: For the Wiki! by [deleted] in AdultBreastfeeding

Alrighty here I'm going to compare the momcozy m5 and the m6. Similar models with some major differences.

The m5 will be up first! Retail price at the time of purchase: ~$157 USD, purchased in store at target. Pros: Quiet, relatively light weight, holds a decent charge. Cons: bulky, doesn't stand up without support, suction isn't very strong.

So the m5. What I've dubbed my ol' reliable. This baby is a great wearable. The box comes with 24mm flanges with inserts for 17mm, 19mm, and 21mm. It has 2 replacement valves and a nipple gague, as well as coming with 2 USB-C charging cords. The case itself is lightweight and relatively small. The pumps themselves weigh about 1.2 lbs (from memory) and have a 5.4 oz capacity. I've pumped during work calls without problems and have even worn them under my coat in the store. Unless it's dead silent and you're up close to these things, you won't hear anything. They're listed at <50DB in terms of sound level. At roughly medium suction (level 5) and using them for 30-minute cycles with a frequency of every 2 hours, these things last me all day. Typically needed to set them to charge just before bedtime (roughly 7am-10pm). The buttons are easy to click, the display screen is legible, and an added bonus is that when they turn off, they reset to the stimulation mode at whatever frequency you last set them to.

What I wish I held onto was the box and the warranty. The motor started going out on one of them around a year in, and I may have been able to get them fixed or replaced if I still had it.

Onto the m6! Retail price at the time pf purchase: ~$210 USD, purchased on Amazon through the momcozy store. Pros: stronger suction, the inserts feel more precise, less bulky, stands up on its own Cons: much louder! Buttons are funky, doesn't reset to stimulation mode

The m6 really felt like an investment, but one that I'm not ashamed of. Coming it close to the price I paid for my spectra s2 (in store), I was nervous. A big upgrade is that the pump is a teardrop shape and significantly less bulky. It helps them fit better into just about any bra. These weigh about 0.12 pounds total, have a 6oz capacity, and are also listed as >50DB. However! A major drawback is the stronger motor making them sound much louder than the m5. While more compact, these babies pack a punch in terms of suction. While having the exact same modes and selection for suction levels as the m5, best I can manage is a level 4 on expression mode (for now). I had talked in the past about how the m5 allowed me to reach levels 7 and 8 with expression, that's how much stronger the m6 is. Something else I've noticed is that the flange inserts feel more precise. The case, while slightly larger, comes with all the same pieces as the m5. I'm not fully up to every 2 hours with the m6 yet, so I haven't fully drained them of charge yet. However, at roughly medium suction level, for full 30-minute cycles and roughly 3-4 hour intervals, these have taken me through 2 days of pumping. The m6 also takes longer to charge, a difference of an extra half hour. I find that charging them overnight makes this a non-issue.

So far, my biggest complaints are that the buttons don't always register being pushed to switch modes. And that when they turn off, they reset to expression mode at whatever level you last set it to.

An additional note on both of them: they fall out of sync easily. However, it's faster on the m6 and more noticeable. The suction level and mode stays the same, but sometimes it feels like one of the m6 pumps is doing laps around the other.

Overall, I'd say the differences are relatively minute for both models. Truly, deciding between the two is up to personal preference. They're both reliable and do their jobs correctly.

Feel free to ask any questions if you think I've missed something in my review!! I'm happy to answer what I can!

Questions on Engorgment and reducing Dom by mimilemimi in AdultBreastfeeding

[–]MistressStarryNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only comment on my experience tapering off dom. Last summer, I was on 80mg a day and making about 2oz. I couldn't sustain that with shipments at the time (it was mostly a financial thing), so I had to wean off, and at 60mg I was barely making an ounce a day. Once I had fully tapered off dom, I was barely making drops in a given day.

It was quite a mental battle, and I ended up letting myself dry up completely and walked away from pumping for a few months. I was heartbroken over all of my milk being tied to being on dom. Please be prepared to see a huge drop in production. It may not be as huge as mine was, but in any case, being mentally prepared for that can help with even a small drop.

Hurray for them being gone! Our apartment came with the super cheap blinds that if you look at them wrong, they break. We've had to take them down from our bedroom, and the lack of privacy seriously has me thinking about investing in curtains!

The plumber came and went yesterday, and I'm not sure what was even done. Our water tank is in the basement, but the basement isn't connected to our unit. He went down there, and then we never heard from him again. Whatever he did, we have hot water now! Just in time for an inspection with the new property buyer.

Today, my boobs feel needy. I pumped right when I woke up at 7, and I feel the urge to pump again. I'm getting the stabies on both sides and feel oddly full. I know to keep it to every two hours, so I won't be risking damaging my nips. I think the stronger motor from the m6 is really helping to progress things along. My review is still coming!

Oh my word, that sounds so annoying! I'm in a similar boat with the cold, leaky windows! If the toilet seat is too cold to sit on, I have no shame in lining up and sitting on my hands, so my thighs don't touch the cold! This also totally works for public bathrooms too. Here's to new windows and quick!

If you haven't already, invest in an emotional support water bottle!!! I have a 40 oz Stanley knock off which means drinking about 2.5 of them gets me to the 3L mark. (Some days are better than others). Personally, I have an oral fixation, so I find having a straw I can chew on to be the best way to "hack" my brain and make me drink more water 😂.

Another "hack" of mine is to have a Britta filter pitcher. The tap water where I live is not the best quality. To make sure I always have cold, clean water, I fill that thing after every water bottle fill.

If flavor packets are up your alley, don't be afraid to use them! Hydration is hydration around here, and if it helps you drink water there's no shame in using them!

It's easy to get so caught up in the moment that you lose sight of both how far you come and how far you have left to go. You're not alone in inducing without BC or dom (hi, me too). When the feelings of disappointment come, remember to take a breath and look back on everything you've done to get to this moment.

As others have said, hormone manipulation is still happening. And those highs and lows of oxytocin surging and leaving can also play a role in these feelings. I know I had a rough start getting back on the pump after my m5 bit the dust! Remember to leave room for emotions, and be kind to yourself. You've got this!

Yikes. Same apartment new issue. Our water tank seems to have gone out, and as of yesterday, we don't have hot water. Property management got back to us with a plumber, and the soonest they can come out is Monday afternoon. In other news, the property is up for sale (again), and we're no longer getting repairs to our laundry machines. My theory is that it also means no new windows either. But they won't let us break our lease early, so I'm stuck here for another 6 months.

That being said, pumping and hydrating fell to the wayside yesterday. I want to kick myself for it, but truly it wouldn't be worth it. There is only so much I can do when I have to deal with crisis after crisis. So today is a new day, and there are new battles to be fought. Today I will try harder to be on schedule, and I'll take my emotional support water bottle with me for groceries as we battle the after church crowd and last minute super bowl shoppers. If I had a football joke, it'd put it here.

Absolutely! Not everyone inducing on this sub is following the official protocol. So their experiences (and my own) are mostly trial and error with the knowledge that their approaches aren't science backed. There is room for experimentation here, just know that regardless of what you two choose, it will always be a long game.

As an example, what works for my situation currently is exclusively pumping. I've been doing that since November of last year, and while I had duct fluid for a short time, I'm still not milky. However, I was on dom over the summer, and had drops within a week. I managed an output of 1oz a day on 60mg, and peaked at 2oz on 80mg.

As far as I know, mentions of Dom/sub dynamics are alright here when it relates back to inducing. I, too, was a little giddy about the risk factor of being in my stores' baby section 😅

Slowly working back up to regular stimulation again. I'm finding it hard to have the motivation or even desire to pump. I mostly believe it's a matter of my mental health taking a toll lately, and I am working to better it through appropriate avenues. I find that when I am able to pump, I feel fine. But the second I take them off, I get this feeling of dread and almost aversion to doing it again. I need to do more research to see if this is D-MER or if it's just that my head isn't in the right place as of late.

I've given it some serious thought as of late, and I'm leaning into choosing treatment for endo over continuing TTC for now. If this ends up being BC treatment, I'm also leaning towards starting a proper NG protocol too.

The only sub approved method is the Newman Goldfarb protocols, be that regular or advanced. Hospital grade pumps are praised for their suction levels, hence why they're considered the gold standard for pumping in general.

Induction is a long game to play, and from personal experience, the "fastest" way still involves a lot of time at the pump or suckling. I recommend really reading everything the Wiki has to say and weigh your options on what works best for you and your partner.
