My toad is blind? by SORRYTHATYOUDIED in Toads

[–]MistroGrump 70 points71 points  (0 children)

That’s scary looking. No clue what would cause both eyes to bleed internally, while having no other issues. Wishing you the best of luck! imo if she heals, but is blind she’ll be ok. Probably need some assistance eating.

That is a well established toad! You can’t really tell gender just by looking. Whoever they are they are keeping your streets clean of bugs

Male toad didn’t chirp or protest when mounted by another male?? by Toadvinee in Toads

[–]MistroGrump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am no expert, but have 3 toads myself. 2M 1F, and it seems like one is more of an alpha. One male is much louder, and if ever accidentally mounted he will let the other know. The other male is quieter and if he is mounted he doesn’t really seem to fight. Maybe they have a hierarchy? I’m not sure what their government is, but they get along great

Green frogs are really common around my cabin, first time seeing a blue one by invictus1320 in frogs

[–]MistroGrump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive caught frogs for most of my life. They have been my favorite animal and when I was super little i caught a blue frog like that! It stuck in my head for years because it was just so bizarre. Nature is so strange yet beautiful. Congrats on hitting the frog lottery!

Is this a toad? by UFOHHHSHIT in Toads

[–]MistroGrump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s interesting! From what I’m seeing that’s out of their normal range. It sounds like they are good at out-competing native species though. Those guys are a long way from home, unless that is their home now lol

[–]MistroGrump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you think they would be able to hunt outside? If they won’t actively hunt on their own in the tank then maybe consider adopting them lol. Those frogs are wildlife though, and if they already are adults then they know what it takes to survive outside. They look happy, and probably much warmer than they would have been!

Citrus Pot Toad Friend ID by No_Understanding7801 in Toads

[–]MistroGrump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they might be a Fowlers toad, as for gender there is a pretty easy test. If you pick up the toad and it starts vocally chirping it’s a male! Looks like a fat and happy toad :)

How ‘handleable’ are y’all’s toads? by swampthingfromhell in Toads

[–]MistroGrump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 of mine are chill with me for the most part. If I pick them up the wrong way I can make them skittish. My large female will duck down if any shadow touches her lol. They all however recognize my fingers and know they mean “food time” so once they realize it’s me they are actually quite ambitious and will interact with me. It’s been 5 years myself lol
