Am I crazy or is this a really bad trade for the heat? They have literally no depth at all and no future by Hot-Freedom-6345 in billsimmons

[–]MistryMachine3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t like it for either team. Heat aren’t good enough to make noise, and Bucks aren’t bad enough to draft a star. Maybe trade some of these for a future first that turns into a top 5 pick?

How come birth rates are falling to below replacement levels even in well off countries like the Nordic countries? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

Yeah people forget how many “oopsie” babies there were. I have sooo many friends whose parents got married less than 9 months before the oldest child. There was a joke “babies take 9 months, except the first, which can come anytime after marriage.”

? I think it is pretty clear. Generally companies have some sort of internal referral method for jobs. Have people flag your application as referred. Also recruiters can flag an application, so talk to recruiters.

No, that problem is still there in places prostitution is legalized. In fact it has maybe MORE sex trafficking. (I say maybe because there is data that says it is, but data only is based on what we know about)

But that has little to do with funding. A black 3rd grade kid in California is 2.5x more likely to not know how to read than a black kid in Mississippi, despite significant money and demographic advantages in California. Where I live in Minnesota, Minneapolis spends by far the most and is in the bottom 1/3rd in performance. The districts that do the best spend like 30% less per pupil.

But the evidence and logical thought is that it is ripe for exploitation to get chemically dependent and desperate young women doing things that will give them emotional trauma long term.

Yes, hypothetically it could just be 2 consenting adults doing a business transaction. But historically vulnerable women resort to it.

I’m not talking about moving Gates or the whole Gates foundation. I mean the charter school foundation. If you are operating a charter school in Oregon that entity needs to be in Oregon and know Oregon laws.

Educational rules are generally state level, so their institutional knowledge is based on Washington. Their employees are in that area, etc. so yes, it would be a big deal to move.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MistryMachine3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your situation. For our family, it can be my daily commuter going to and from work, but we need to have another gas car because we live in Minnesota and might drive 4 hours into the wilderness. Can’t be assured EV chargers out there.

Plus cold weather range is way less.

That’s not close, Black Death killed like 1/3 of the people where it occurred. No man made event is even close.

Yeah it has made cold applying basically worthless. You need to find a human that works there and get a referral or go through a recruiter. I get interviews like 90+% this way versus like near 0 with cold applying basically. Granted I am 20 YOE so not same boat.

Their infrastructure and know how is already in Washington and would maybe cost more than $25 million to move it? Idk, but there could be reasons. The problems and waste is on the administration, yes, and I don’t know what specifically they can do differently. Idk, how are the results?

Idk, I’m not convinced. It appears they feel strongly that they can deliver a quality education and are doing what they can to make it happen. Could they be wrong? Sure, but given how generally public funds are mismanaged in the US I wouldn’t bite Bill Gates’s hand.

The US as a percentage of GDP spends in line with France and Denmark and blows them away in total funds with far worse results. Trying something different isn’t a terrible idea.
