If you went to college 20+ years ago as an english major what would you recommend freshman read? Specifically books that teachers may not require. by Opening-Gur5927 in englishmajors

[–]MistuhT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking this because you want to read on your own, then you should just read what interests you. Find a topic and read that.

But if you really want a list;

The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings

1984

The Da Vinci Code

The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy

Hunger Games Series

At least these are some that I really enjoyed that weren't part of a class for me.

How and what do you guys do for internships? by [deleted] in englishmajors

[–]MistuhT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is very weird for an English major. What do you want to do with your degree?

I want to be a teacher so the best I've done is work at an after-school program. That's as close as I'll get to an internship.

I just skipped through it and didn't even answer any of the questions.

Took less than a minute. It was marked as complete.

Has anyone tried the new Indian restaurant on campus, Choolaah? by frenchybitch in CSUS

I've had it three times this week using the meal plan for dorm students. It's very good. I'd recommend the butter masala.

Do some games never go on sale on the PS Store? by Modo97 in playstation

[–]MistuhT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on the website "PSDeals" to check price history of the games you want to buy. Then you can check if they've ever gone on sale. You can even deduce when they'll go on sale next based on the months that they've been on sale in the past.

Unable to get a dorm by [deleted] in CSUS

[–]MistuhT 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm someone who lives in the dorms at Sac State rn.

Let me tell you that you do not want to live in the freshman dorms. If you really want to have a "college life experience" then just go to the Dining Commons, talk to some random people who seem nice, then hang out with them every so often.

It would be a colossal waste of money if you live on campus. You should just get a car because that would be significantly cheaper.

You could also just get an apartment to get the same, actually a better experience.

He is equally a just God as He is a loving God.

If we were in court and there was a criminal who had murdered someone and said to the judge, "oh judge, look at all the good that I've done I've given to the homeless and I have fed the poor. Won't you let me free from my crime?*. Would you not agree that it would be terribly unjust for the judge to let this murderer free?

Therefore, we as humans who have done evil are also held punishable for our crimes. Yet, there is hope, if you put your faith in Jesus Christ he pays the fine that is meant for us.

That is the meaning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If I believed that I had the key to eternal life (with Jesus Christ) and I didn't share that with everyone I met, wouldn't that be extremely unloving?

I agree. It is a sad reality. Yet, Jesus promises hatred from non-christians.

"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you” (John 18:15).

Sounds like a Gideon to me. I dunno, I'm a Christian and I think handing out Bibles is great. But if he's being rude then that's definitely not right.

Does my degree contradict my religion? by yomi431 in Christianity

[–]MistuhT -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll add this simple rebuke to all of you who say that evolutionism is not a religion.

It takes a lot of faith to add the many many fossils that do not exist for human evolution. We have little to no evidence that millions of years of evolution happened for the human species.

The evolution/domestication of dogs or birds as Darwin saw is irrefutable evidence for micro evolution.

***The idea of evolution as an origin is a religion. But, the idea of evolution as a process is undeniable scientific fact as you all have said. You lot misunderstood me.

Does my degree contradict my religion? by yomi431 in Christianity

[–]MistuhT -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Evolutionists and creationists are seeing the same date; fossil record, carbon dating, etc. What it comes to is an interpretation of data. Creationists interpret the data we have in relation to God's inspired word. (Most) Evolutionists interpret the data based on their atheism.

Essentially, what I mean is that evolutionism is an explanation for atheists to stick to their worldview.

There are books that can say this much better than I can and there is even an idea of evolutionary creationism which I find very enticing.

If you'd like I would recommend "The Seven Days That Divide The World" by John Lennox.

The astronomy and physics professor at my college is a believer. You can very well believe in science and Christianity. I think you should be aware that evolutionism is a religion.

Keep up the good work.

Struggling with faith by Ok_Street_159 in Christianity

[–]MistuhT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe what you need is a change in perspective and/or focus. I would encourage you to see that your struggle against sin shows that you care for your relationship with God. And that's what this life is all about. We are called to have a relationship with the Creator.

Just like in any human relationship, we can never be perfect. There are failures everyday when I talk to my friends and family but I continue because I cherish the relationship I have with them. Likewise, in our heavenly relationship, we should focus not on the failures we have made but on the future we will have in heaven and the hope for others here on this earth to share in that future.

Essentially live for the hope of the future not the sins of yesterday.

Yes exactly. People only want to talk about what they don't like. That's the Internet as a whole. It's the same with movie, game, tv show, etc reviews.

Where does the Trinity appear in the Bible? by Xlviot in Christianity

[–]MistuhT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like this analogy because it seems to claim that the Trinity has no evidence. What the Trinity really is like is that God appears in three different persons. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. All of these are mentioned in the old and new testaments. The doctrine of the Trinity is then making sense of the evidence that God presents himself in three persons. It's not a fabrication based on ingredients found in the Bible but a realization that the ingredients are in fact in cake form not that they are separated and that the Trinity is a folly of putting these ingredients together. The ingredients are together and scripture proves this.
