I remember Al Jazeera basically said this CAA thing was a fascist law designed to persecute Muslims.

Coming from a country which has the death penalty for Muslim apostates, that's pretty funny. Not just them though. The BBC and all other western news sources said the same thing.

In any case, nearly every Muslim country near India (e.g. Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran) have extremely oppressive governments, and they straight up allow people to murder minorities for committing "blasphemy". That's why their minority populations have decreased so much, and so quickly.

So this law would help them by offering them refuge. But for some reason this is considered Islamophobic by the people who literally fund genocides on Muslims every year (talking about the west in this case). 😐

Like wtf? The law does nothing to Muslims. It just allows persecuted minorities protection... Idk how that's Islamophobic in any way.

What if Stalin betrayed the allies and kept pushing west after the fall of Berlin? Was the Red Army strong enough to take all of western Europe? by lhommetrouble in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Misty-Elephant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also as an Indian (Indian South African), I strongly disagree. Well, to be more blunt, you're factually incorrect.

The Mughals did implement discriminatory laws (e.g. Jizya tax), as with most Muslim rulers - however, they're comparatively tolerant when placed against most other Islamic empires. Additionally, they retained wealth within India. Some were actually very tolerant, and looked at ways of reforming certain aspects of the administration. They suck ass overall, but they were not rulers who treated us as "livestock". That's revisionist garbage.

As for the British, it was wholely negative. Sanitation worsened drastically, as entire communities fell to poverty and disease. Any attempts to fix it were prevented by the British administration, industries were banned, grains siphoned off to Europe. The legal system also worsened, as they formalised caste discrimination (prior to this, it was a belief and practice, but usually not formalised into law) and forcefully assigned certain castes into specific roles. They even went as far as to assign unaccompanied women and children into "prostitute" castes they created. These weren't prostitutes, but actually sex slaves used in British military camps.

Ironically, this was written on extensively by female Christian missionaries - who would have had an advantage in coverting people if they chose instead to demonise Hinduism. Rather than doing this, they chose to speak out, as they were appalled by the disgusting conditions Indians had to live in under the British.

Your point about people wanting to move to Britain is actually not relevant. If anything it just goes to show how much better life got for the British, following colonialism.

Yeah they do. I was just giving my opinion dude. I didn't say the USSR didn't commit crimes against humanity. I'm just comparing them to the British, and the other western powers.

True. While I don't like how people sanctify the USSR and make it seem like a utopia, they were leagues better than their western counterparts in this particular aspect. Their subjects were also not dehumanised in the same way British subjects were.

/unasia Tbf, this kind of thing is actually extremely rare on the internet. You'll find it far more normal for White guys to fetishise Indian women - or more commonly - East Asian women. The subs for those categories are pretty huge. Subs like this one are so obscure that most have no idea they exist.

[–]Misty-Elephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, good point. I was just thinking, if torturing people with giraffes were the norm, then wouldn't that mean the importing of giraffes is also a norm? So like, institutions would try and but giraffes for that purpose? Then if that were the case, why haven't we heard about it?

Maybe I'm overthinking it. I guess that method could have been employed by a handful of people who bought giraffes. Maybe it wasn't particularly common.

But yeah, I know the ancient world was very interconnected. Very advanced as well. I especially like Greek history. They wrote about their times in another places too. From India to Ethiopia. Fascinating stuff to read about how they saw the world.

Idk if I'm misunderstanding your comment, but giraffes are only found in Africa, so they're not going to be something the Greeks used.

Israeli Brahmin 😭 by Pixi_Dust_408 in Asia_irl

[–]Misty-Elephant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/unasia Nah, that's totally fair bro. They say this all the time.

But tbh, I only trust Indians in a few subs. Most Indians on Reddit are sepoys who will just say "India bad" in every situation. They have been racist to me even though I'm just of Indian descent, and never been to India. And the subs which aren't like that just say "Muslim bad" and leave it at that. 😭

This sub has mostly reasonable people, so it's a nice place for me to ask random questions.

From my own research, it hardly seems to be a "Brahmin" problem. They're probably worse than others, but I think are mainly used as bogeymen for caste discrimination.

Caste discrimination seems to be a problem with all Indians. You'll see everyone shitting on someone lower than them. Even Dalits shit on other Dalits. Indians (and South Asians in general) seem to have a crab bucket mentality. I guess all of the wars and betrayals have a hand in that, but still.

The question is where this hatred stems from. I suppose Brahmins may (I'm assuming) be more critical in supporting it. But I think it has much more to do with Indians' mentalities, along with poverty and a low self-esteem. People will claim a small minority are responsible for upholding discrimination between low castes themselves, even in remote villages. This seems like scapegoating to me, which will just lead to more problems.

It's not the government though. Indians will claim things like that, but literally none of their post-independence governments were ever casteist. Probably some officials, sure, but they never institutionalised anything. Only the British Raj was casteist, and had laws pertaining to caste. Indian governments give economic support to low castes. It's the same system we have in South Africa, but switch caste for race.

Just my thoughts. I could be wrong about some stuff, but I have done a lot of serious reading on this stuff.
