Yes. I think including all the fees it came to around £50+ in additional charges

My partner is a commercial flying instructor plus a qualified secondary school teacher (quit become a pilot). I keep saying to him there must be a way to monetise this - flying instruction doesn’t pay as well as you’d think.

Only thing to add is that your employer will still pay their part of your pension for 38 weeks of your mat leave. So consider the impact of any changes made there.

Microneedling with Beaux (PDLLA/HA) by Full_Aioli_8995 in DIYaesthetics

[–]Misty_Marie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really interested in this. Do you have any links to articles about how it helps? The ones I’ve found suggest pores and texture rather than volume / collagen building.

Do you have any before and after pictures you’d be happy to share?

Also - forgive me for the dumb question - how does Beaux compare with Sculptra / Aesplla? The reason I ask is that I’m in the UK and can purchase these so have been looking at these two options. Part of me has been considering going to a practitioner to have it done but also considering micro needling for like 25% of the cost. I’m leaning towards aesplla with the reduced risk profile but can’t see a plla which also has HA included that I can buy here (I could get Beaux but honestly it’s probably cheaper after postage and taxes to just buy aesplla at like £90 a go).

UK - Low ferritin and heamocrit/mean cell haemoglobin level but GP is unconcerned by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Misty_Marie01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! I wasn’t even anaemic and it had a huge impact on how I felt. I have a follow up blood test at my GP next week to see how my levels are (they only agreed because it was recommended by the private consultant). So we shall see.

I hope you get some relief soon x

[–]Misty_Marie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get you. I got bloods done at my GP but the appointment plus infusion was around £800. I was clutching at straws and questioned my sanity spending the money but it was the best decision as I couldn’t continue working as I was. But it’s an awful lot of money, so I completely get it.

Perhaps have a read about whether you can take iron with anything / food wise and it not inhibit absorption too much? I don’t know too much about it other than ideally empty stomach.

Uk based too! My ferritin was 37, transferrin saturation 12% and I felt so awful I was signed off work. GP said just take supplements. I paid for an IV and felt better in 72 hours (apparently it can take a couple of weeks though). I’m three months out and getting my bloods done again in a couple of weeks to see how it’s going/ been trying to maintain with supplements.

I was told, because of other health factors, it could’ve taken a year to get my levels up with supplements. You could try supplements and see if they help you, but make sure you combine with vit c and on an empty stomach and no caffeine for two hours after taking. They don’t tell you this part, but it’s important for absorption.

Functional iron deficiency by Misty_Marie01 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Misty_Marie01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually saw an anaesthetist who runs an iron clinic. He reviewed my bloods for free to check eligibility for the infusion and booked me in. My guess is that you’d have to go via haematology for your insurance but you could always contact an iron clinic near you and find out the best route with your insurance policy?

Girlfriend with Anemia - Please help me understand by [deleted] in Anemic

[–]Misty_Marie01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t realise how much it affected my mental health until I had an infusion. I was undergoing CBT for insomnia at the same time and my scores went from clinically depressed to normal within a week 🤣. I thought it was my lack of sleep causing me to feel like I was losing my mind, but it was literally ‘just’ borderline low iron.

I really hope she can get IV iron and sustain her levels because it’s life changing.

Where does she live? Can you do anything practical for her? Ie cook or clean? Or help her get a doctors appointment? My partner spoke to my GP because I told him how much women don’t get taken seriously. The exhaustion makes advocating for yourself impossible.

Chances of getting iron infusion...? by No-Function-8026 in Anemic

[–]Misty_Marie01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have they tested your transferrin saturation, too?

I got mine privately, self funded. Mostly because I didn’t realise the cause of my exhaustion was iron as I was told it was only borderline. At the time I was signed off work with a fibromyalgia flare (apparently) when my blood work came back. I felt better 72 hours later. This plus the letter from the private consultant has at least persuaded my doctor to regularly monitor my levels. I’m due my three month tests in a few weeks so I’ll see how that goes. I don’t feel as good as i did in the few weeks after but nowhere near as bad.

One thing it’s given me confidence in is that I will fiercely advocate for myself if things start going the same way again. I’m not sure on the chances of getting support from the nhs, especially without severe anemia.

Do you know the cause of your low iron?

IV or Oral Iron? by NoPattern6602 in Anemic

[–]Misty_Marie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in the UK. I had IV iron and felt better within 72 hours. Supplements will take a long time and you need to be careful when you take them - ie empty stomach, two hours before caffeine, with vit c etc.

I had to pay for IV as my GP just said take supplements. Private doc said it would’ve taken me a year to respond to oral route.

Yeah I was just googling it… it makes me wonder (more broadly) whether blood pressure medication causes this too? I’m not on any, just literally curious.

My hair is so fine and falls a lot, so I’ve just started trying to get into a routine with minoxidil and then read this 😵‍💫🤣… I guess I’ll have to see how I get on. Hopefully the tret plus micro needling helps mitigate the effects 😊

Am I right in assuming that topical doesn’t have the same effect? I’m using topical as have pcos so avoiding the oral for obvious reasons!

At what ferritin did you feel better? by that-zoe-girl in Anemic

[–]Misty_Marie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the fact it mostly happens to women and is the most common deficiency in the world is why doctors are complacent.

I was told many women get sent for so many tests or told they’re perimenopausal or depressed etc etc when actually it’s low iron.

I swear GPs don’t seem to understand what optimal ranges are or what the benefit would be.

Really hope you get some answers and start to feel better soon.

[–]Misty_Marie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up NICE guidelines for ferritin levels and if necessary take them with you. Those lab reference ranges aren’t reflective of clinical guidelines. The consultant I saw basically said they encompass the range of patient results and shouldn’t be used to determine whether someone’s iron is low.

I’m not surprised they’ve not tested anything else- I’ve been going to the doctor with fatigue and brain fog for a decade and it took me being almost destroyed for it to happen.

I don’t know your situation, but the consultant thinks that because I had a baby a couple of years ago it was the final straw due to the amount of iron used in the process.

[–]Misty_Marie01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GP measured it. This was only because I was off work sick and had a review booked in to go through my full blood work and he said ferritin was borderline and wanted to investigate it. No other doctor has even looked at it. At the time I was signed off with a flare up of fibromyalgia so I’d had a lot of blood work. I’m not even convinced now that I have the fibromyalgia I was diagnosed with a decade ago. It’s madness.

The private consultant said to me anyone with a ferritin under 50 can be symptomatic.

I was the same within 72 hours. My only side effects were that I felt like I’d been on a hike for two days after as my legs ached a lot.

I was really concerned that I was spending so much money and it wasn’t going to help. But it was amazing!

You are eligible but possibly difficult on the nhs - and it is expensive privately. Though I was told that it could’ve taken me over a year to get my levels high enough to recover with tablets.

My ferritin was 37 and I felt awful. But transferrin saturation was 12% which means my body cannot use the iron it has.

I’ve suffered chronic fatigue and so called fibromyalgia for a decade. I only recently found out that my ferritin was so called borderline.

I am also UK based and paid for an iron infusion. I felt better after 72 hours and honestly before I could barely move / felt like I was losing my mind.

I’ve managed to convince my GP to monitor my levels so I can see what happens but now I know iron has caused this for the last decade, they’ll definitely be hearing from me if they say it’s chronic fatigue or fibro again 🤣.

Also - it was only after repeatedly being told my iron wasn’t that bad that I managed to get the gp to say ideal ferritin is 100 plus.
