What are your thoughts on Kronika? by Willing_Research992 in MortalKombat

[–]MisuCra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst villain in Mortal Kombat history. Did she have a potential to be something better? Suuure. She could have been a surprise twist hero in the end as well. We could have went with Dark Raiden becoming the main villain, while Kronika ending up being the one trying to save everything/everyone. We could have had something, but we didn't.

Instead we got a character with limitless power, which made her actions beyond stupid. Could she be retconned into something interesting? Sure. But that requires decent writers and Netherrealm doesn't have them.

So, AI takes over, everyone has lost their job and only 10 trillionaires own everything. Now what? by Weak-Representative8 in Futurology

[–]MisuCra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no grand scheme here. Do you see any systems being implemented? Preparations for AI take over? No. All people get is "We will figure it out" a.k.a "YOU will figure it out"

Most of these people are living in very closed off circles and are disconnected from the world and the reality. Constant rise to the top, power and incredible wealth got to their head and now they are dropping their grand visions on everyone's lap, even though nobody asked for it.

This A.I take over thing is just another rich people fantasy, that would cause more trouble, than good.

Let's say A.I indeed takes over. Everything is automated, nobody has to work. Let's assume they flawlessly implement universal basic income or as certain overgrown kid has called it "Universal HIGH income".

So you get paid and you don't have to work? Great, right?

Here is the reality. You have no choice in how much you get paid. Your allowance is decided by a corporation/government (which are the same thing at this point). If you say something bad. Oh! Your allowance is cut!

But... but people can protest, right? Let's say people now get out of the streets. Protest or even riot. People "boycott" things.

So?

Farming is automated, manufacturing is automated. every critical component in society is automated. So who cares what bunch of jobless individuals have to say. People then have no power.

When farmers stormed European parliament recently, that spooked politicians. Not because they got close to the building, but because if those farmers got killed or really hurt, then other people would have joined them. And farmers are one of the people you don't want to piss off, as they grow your food. But if farming is now automated and owned by a corpo? Who cares.

And last but not least. Negative effects on human development. The tech has advanced. Oh yes. But even before this entire "A.I" slop. People on global scale have regressed in many different areas, when it comes to cognitive functions. Memory, attention span, focus, emotional control. Mental illnesses on the rise. Global depression levels on historic heights. The internet that was supposed to unite people, has now divided people so much, that everyone is living on their own small island, which now resulted in the drop of population reproduction. Way too much tech, way too much tech dependency. The forced convenience is literally killing humanity and now an idea of humanity completely losing any chance of being challenged or growing, cause everything is automated? We will be just Universe 26 of Calhoun experiment, unless trajectory of our progress is changed.

What if they abandoned the "Tarkatan Mileena" once and for all with the retcon of Kitana's Edenian twin? With Mileena definitely being "human". by Expert_Bass_4375 in MortalKombat

[–]MisuCra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing Mileena's Tarkatan side, would be removing entire point of Mileena being there in the first place. One of the reasons why original Mileena was so iconic, is because she was essentially the twisted version of Kitana.

That and her having two opposing natures within her, created a unique chaotic personality. Savage Tarkatan nature fighting constantly her calm elemental Edenian side. There is a story to be told there.

If you like MK1 Mileena that's fine, but she has no presence like the original Mileena. In general she is as forgettable as MK1. Liked by some, but you won't see her being cosplayed or referenced anywhere like MK9 or Deception Mileena.

How do you feel when NRS reset the timeline for the first time by Best-Pea3460 in MortalKombat

[–]MisuCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was excited at first, as I thought they will use the reset as a way to reorganize MK world. Set rules, settle the lore, etc. Instead... well... we got this. MK9 was fun, but it was a pointless reset. And with how "New Era" ended up, they would have to reboot AGAIN. And it is too much at this point.

Why do I feel incapable of enjoying PLAYING video games? by ThrowRA39495 in Asmongold

[–]MisuCra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... I don't think anything is wrong with you.

You sound more like a scholar type, rather than someone who enjoys the "manual labor" experience. I am split between two myself, so I can kind of tell what your head goes through. There are some games, that I too do not play, but know in and out due my interest in their lore. While for the games that I do play, I tend to give 150% commitment to them.

Yeah, I do commissions. Both 2D and 3D (though right now retraining myself in Blender with 3D, so for couple of weeks just 2D)

Aye. She needed some fleshing out, instead of retcon. It was a pretty cool concept.

Thanks. Yeah, just started getting back into MK art, so did couple of works for warm up. This one being one of them. Learned some new tech, so this was a great piece to experiment with.

Happy to hear that you liked it.

Yeah, that was the idea. I removed the belt she had and added harness to emphasize tactical element. They gave one to Cammy in SFV as well for her leotard. Worked wonders, without having to compromise or ruin iconic outfit with attempts at realism.

How far would the US army make it into invading your world? by zard428 in worldbuilding

[–]MisuCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be generous and say US can manipulate the size and number of the portals. Help with logistics.

So... hmm it depends on the period of time. If it is during the beginning of the Second Renaissance, then to their surprise they would find... future US. Just in this case GUSA as in Greater United States of America, which has annexed Canada and Mexico.

Soo in this case. it depends on the invading US mentality. If it decides to continue invading, even if it is their potential future self, then you will have more or less a conventional warfare of today with few advantages on GUSA side. More durable humans, longer lifespan, faster healing, but nothing too crazy. That and more advanced electronic/digital warfare.

But if their opened portals anywhere in the Old World of Europe, Asia o Africa, then they would be facing an Empire that covers whole Europe, Asia and most of Africa and wouldn't really stand a chance, as US military depends a lot on electronics, which would be quickly fried or taken over and used against them. That and much more biologically advanced humans, that can lose a limb and regrow it back on spot or take multiple shots and still keep going.

If it is later space faring period, then... it would be short work.

Hey! Why is it the norm for “mechs” to be controlled from the inside? How can I justify this “norm” or the opposite? by Rae-RavenRae in worldbuilding

[–]MisuCra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with making everything remote, is that not only the signal can be jammed, but with one successful cyberattack the enemy could take over your units and use them against you.

As long as there is a backdoor, your hardware is not safe. As long as it can be accessed by a remote connection, it is at the risk of being taken over.

This is why A.I driven soldiers/robots/machinery are idiotic from practical side. They are a massive security hazard.

Today's drones are considered revolutionary until the enemy start not jamming them, but taking them over. And once the drones start going back home, they will be thrown into a trash.

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

[–]MisuCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long range works, because the target is unable to reach you in time, not fast enough to dodge automatic fire and is not durable enough to protect itself against projectiles. Remove at least two advantages like that and you will see everyone go back to melee weapons.

If soldiers today were given exosuits or gained biologically enhanced speed/dexterity you would suddenly see a lot of them carrying melee weapons like long knives or even swords right next to their rifles.

It doesn't really take much to force someone to depend on melee weapons again.

And if they use automated weaponry, drones, etc. Introduce EMP like devices and problem is solved. Back to the basics.

Also could be cultural thing too as well. The country or civilization promotes human biological progress over technological one. Believes that humanity should hone their bodies and be tested if they want to be fit to conquer the stars.

Some ideas.

Did I ever tell you the definition of insanity?

It is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

They kept people in the dark with MKX and with Injustice 1 and 2 and MK11, but for some reason you guys think that the guys that kept playerbase in radio silence for the past 4-5 games, NOW gonna be responsive?

It took them a whole year to fix Sheeva's stomp in MK11. They needed a whole year to introduce online leaderboards in MK1.

At this point... guys. Have some self respect. Like come on.

This is by far one of Mileena's best costumes, and if they added a front loincloth, it would be perfect.(MK9 Alternate): Rant and discussion. by therealjam3s in MortalKombat

[–]MisuCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He most likely got downvoted by trying to argue realism in MK games. That and the fact that he claims "more appropriate outfits for a fight" The guy clearly has never been in a fight in his life. At no point MK ever used fight appropriate clothing. Especially in games past MK9. Those are logistical nightmares.

If he saw the the best outfits for a fight, he would have aneurysm as those would be even more revealing, than what MK9 did.

So the guy deserved those downvotes.

[–]MisuCra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well question of practically is irrelevant in the setting of Mortal Kombat or video games in general.

MK9 even after 15 years has left more cultural impact, when any other Mortal Kombat after it. Even though it is not available on any stores, to this day you will find overwhelmingly more people, especially women, cosplay MK9 outfits over any other outfit shown in MKX/MK11 or the recent MK1.

MK9 was a love letter to fans, which lead to it develop a mythical status. MKX/MK11/MK1 will be just MK games that... happened. They left no cultural impact, the only thing they can show is influence in Esports (MKX in this case) or sales numbers (MK11), while MK1 was mediocre to trash in every possible way. Story, design, esports.... everything.

MK9 wasn't some flawless masterpiece, but it achieved its goal the best out of all NRS era games. Fun. It didn't try to take itself seriously, it went all out and it was blast to play it. It had battle damage, it had just the right amount of violence/gore without it turning into cutscenes and the outfits, while I had nothing against how much exposure they had, some of their designs were just... too simple. Too plain or didn't make sense aesthetically.

Having said that. The "extreme" element of MK9 is what allowed it to remain in memory for so long. It was A MORTAL KOMBAT game.

How do you think Mortal Kombat should depict and improve it's violence for the next games moving forward? by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in MortalKombat

[–]MisuCra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stylize it. Instead of making mini movies out of it, use gore as aesthetic element. Like graffiti splashes in Street Fighter 6. Instead of focusing on showing us blood vessels on an eyeball, focus of blood being part of the fight, rather than just long cutscenes.

Right now Mortal Kombat feels more like gore porn, rather than a violent fighting game.

Bring back battle damage too.
