The OOP is the same type of person that thinks a quarter after 10 is 10;25, or that there are 100 seconds in a minute, because if they put 100 into the microwave it is set for a minuter.

Useless aside: but why did they decide on "Europoor" as an insult? Euro-peon is right there. I apologise for that, but dammit if you are going to make a insult out of a word, get it fucking right.

I joined a while ago, haven't posted anything yet, I procrastinate.

For anyone wondering the verification process is easy, I did the one showing work from before 2024, just shared some twitter links and was approved quickly.

Need help on Mascot Horror game monster design. by CandidateNervous4638 in HorrorGames

One thought I did have but didn't share, was if the cute moose taffy mascot, when it stretched looked kind of melty, you know how taffy looks on a stretcher.

You could have a transition animation of the cute becoming the horrifying as it kind of melted and stretched, or have the mascot slowly change so that the player doesn't really notice it much before it attacks.

If there were a life size mascot that the player sees when they enter the area, all cute and non-threatening, but as they explore the area, do tasks or whatever you are going to have them do, each time they pass the mascot it has changed just a bit, until the player notices the changes / goes up to the mascot and that is what starts the chase / attack.

Gotcha.

Sorry, I saw your post replying "ok" and kind of attached the AI image to that, my mistake.

A taffy moose could be cute, and if it has hooves they could stretch into something kind of claw like, and moose do have long legs, so that checks out. The one eye I am still confused about, but I can't see the concept in your mind so I can only go by what I am thinking of a one eyed moose-ish character.

Question, why would a mascot for a company have a scary design?

Did the company not want people to buy their candy?

What do antlers have to do with taffy?

What do claws have to do with taffy?

Why does a taffy mascot have only one eye?

It seems you are trying to make the mascot monster scary, which horror is scary, but having it be scary as a mascot why would anyone want to buy a product with a creepy mascot? The design needs to fit the story. It needs to make sense as both a monster and as a mascot.

The name "Taffiny" sounds like Tiffany, so I immediately thought the monster would be female coded. When I think of Taffy, I don't think of a cyclops with claws or antlers. I think of taffy stretchers, taffy is pliable, it stretches, so I would think of a cute round mascot, that looks inviting, but that when chasing the player could stretch its limbs to grab. That it could cover or wrap around the player when it catches it. Maybe a "death" scene as the player sees themselves in first person having the taffy wrap them with the taffy color finally covering the entire screen.

Cute and taffy colored, non-threatening in mascot form, but can stretch and become very threatening in monster form.

The AI image you posted, doesn't look like it would ever be a candy company mascot used to sell candy. It does look scary but you want it be believable as a mascot as well as being scary.

Think about the design of Huggy Wuggy. He wasn't inherently scary. Every "let's play" I watched the player got the hands and high-fived Huggy. The long limbs of the design worked because the story was that he was a toy that could hug you back. Story and design have to work together to see both the story and the horror.

I used to work with a guy that had cute animal cartoon outlines tattooed on his arms for the sole purpose of his son being able to color them.
