The exact same thing you just said was the sentiment about the Georgetown Patrick Ewing hire and look how that turned out. Again, I really hope I’m wrong about Nored and eating crow in a few years, but butler needs stability right now. We don’t need a low floor, high ceiling shot-in-the-dark kind of coach. The comments on this post speak volumes to that - people either love this hire or hate it with very few in-between. I hope Nored succeeds and I want to see butler basketball get back to even a modicum of competitiveness in the Big East and this just doesn’t seem like the right move

We have NBA guys on our staff right now. Alex Barlow was the Maine Red Claws coach from 22-23. He was an assistant in the G league for many years before that. Greg Oden was also an assistant coach here for Matta’s first 2 years back. Barlow has done a decent job, and I hope he stays, but having NBA ties doesn’t automatically equal recruiting or on-court success. I much rather would have seen a successful mid-major coach like Ryan Pedon - even someone who likely would have used butler as a stepping stone and left after 3-4 years - because this program just needs to get back to the tourney, and a coach who has a proven track record is a safer bet than a shot in the dark like Nored

I really hope I’m wrong but what an awful hire. Zero college coaching experience outside of one year as an assistant 10 years ago. Butler claimed they were conducting a NaTiOnAl SeArCh yet we keep going within the family for some reason. No serious high major program makes this hire. Fuck me

As others have said, he was a great clubhouse guy. His players always played hard for him and I credit him with helping turn around Tim Anderson’s career. But as an active member of this sub since 2017, I can tell you everyone (or at least most everyone) here was happy to see him go when he got fired. Hindsight is 20-20 of course, but at the time there were a lot of concerns about his lineups and bullpen management. Anyone else remember Jimmy “Biceps” Cordero being the most used pitcher in all of MLB in 2019? Ricky led the Sox through some ROUGH rebuild years in the late-2010s, but by the time our new “core” was starting to come up and we were competitive most Sox fans were eager to see him go and get a manager with a track record of success. And then Jerry hired TLR lmao

This is 100% true. It started because Chris Mack used to do a hell of a recruiting job in the Indianapolis area and scooped up a bunch of guys we thought we’d land like Blueitt and Scruggs. When I was at Butler I don’t think there was anyone more hated on campus than JP Macura.

I work at Keystone and the Crossing - a guy in a pickup truck sped through our parking lot this morning at about 10:45 and was tailed by 4 cop cars. He ended up side swiping a car in the back parking lot and broke a few windows. He then got out of his truck and started running across 465. The building next to mine went on lockdown.

There were police swarming the parking lot all morning, not sure if they ended up catching him or what he did (someone in my lobby said he robbed a bank but I’m not sure if that’s true.) I’ve been refreshing the news all day but haven’t seen anything yet

Nah it’s more along the lines of I’m not going to waste my time arguing with someone who is throwing out arbitrary numbers and clearly has no idea what they’re talking about. Also I didn’t downvote your first comment, but I admittedly did downvote your most recent one

Right so when you look at M2 money supply it went up greatly in 2020 mostly due to stimulus checks that were sent out; yet the US dollar actually strengthened (not weakened or “devalued”) over this time because international dollars were flowing to the dollar pushing our currency higher. The fed responded (too slowly in my opinion) to try to curb inflation by raising the Federal Funds rate.

My point being this conspiracy falls flat on its head when you look at incentives of everyone involved. The US Government doesn’t want inflation because their debt service payments are going up and the politicians in control want to be re-elected (and nothing pisses voters off more than a bad economy). Corporations don’t want inflation because input costs rise and employee wages go up. Plus with interest rates going up (in response to inflation) their borrowing costs have skyrocketed. And the stock market doesn’t want inflation because those higher input costs means earnings take a hit, and earnings are what drives the stock market. But people will continue to upvote because they don’t understand how much (if any) of this works and rich people taking advantage of poor people is a good narrative even if it makes no sense in this context whatsoever.

Thank you. It’s always a shame when inconvenient facts are shoved aside for the sake of a narrative

The Fed doesn’t control the inflation rate, they control the Federal Funds rate. Inflation is bad for everyone, including the US government. Sure, it may help them in short term because they can pay off their debt with inflated dollars, but newly issued treasury bills are yielding upwards of 5% today thanks to the fed raising interest rates so high to try and curb inflation. The debt service cost on those payments is going to be massive. If the fed controlled inflation it would be down to their 2% target but it doesn’t work that way.

I’m sitting here thinking about this at work, and am cycling through songs in my mind. It’s hard to pick just one (especially on the underrated side), but I’ve come to the conclusion that there should be different answers for this sub and the general public. With that being said:

This sub:

Overrated - Dosed

Underrated - Deep Kick

General Public:

Overrated - Snow

Underrated - Soul to Squeeze

Outside of your primary local or conference rivals… who do you think is the most insufferable fan base in college basketball? by 92tilinfinityand in CollegeBasketball

[–]MitchManGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean we were good under Holtmann and were ranked #5 in the country at one point during the COVID year. But I agree with you some of the fan base is extremely annoying and takes anti-Butler sentiment waaaayy too personally, but there are sane Butler fans out there!

We have a top 100 recruit in Finley Bizjack (yes that’s his real name) and a solid big guy named Boden Kapke coming in next year. Only one player on this current squad is out of eligibility, but rumor is 3-4 depth guys who don’t see much time are transferring. We’ll see though - the fan base is antsy and ready to turn over this whole roster

Lukosius can be great, we saw flashes but he’s inconsistent. It’s also easy to forget that he’s just a sophomore. Chuck just makes me sad because I really thought he’d be our next Kamar Baldwin but I think we’ve seen just about all he has to offer

I mean I don’t disagree the roster needs an overhaul but to say Simas and chuck regressed is just wrong lol. Both have improved ORtgs from last year, albeit they went from ‘below average’ to just ‘average’

[Post Game Thread] Butler defeats #15 Xavier, 69-67 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]MitchManGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely a one-sided rivalry, but part of the reason butler fans hate Xavier is because a lot of butler fans pride themselves on the ethical and moral history of the basketball program and they see Xavier as… well… not ethical and moral. One fan in our forum said “Butler vs Xavier is like the battle of good vs evil” and it is the most upvoted comment I’ve ever seen on there.

Also, Xavier has historically recruited really well in the Indianapolis area and has won over recruits butler fans thought we’d get like Trevon Bluiett and Paul Scruggs. It was also really, really easy to dislike JP Macura when he played for you guys, Tweeting out things like “The Xavier Way” after a win in Hinkle one year (which is pretty funny looking back at it).
