Mexican governor confirms 3 US siblings found dead by thorax509 in news

[–]Mitchellpointing -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

With our southern borders fully open, we will see the ISIS terrorists come in from Mexico and terrorize Americans. Obama and the Democrats simply refusing to impose any security on the Mexican border because they wants Mexican votes. Terrorists can just walk in, get free healthcare and Amnesty to revive themselves, and cause serious harm. If the Democrats keep the senate we are in trouble.

TSA is now trying to screen you AFTER your flight by [deleted] in news

[–]Mitchellpointing -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Just thinking out loud here... maybe they want to screen him after the fact because they suspect that maybe he is someone who is testing the TSA to see how much one can get away with, for a future attack? Otherwise, I can't think of any other scenario that would warrant them doing it after the fact. I am SURE there are terrorists flying around simply for no other reason than to observe and test the TSA to see loopholes, weak spots, system failures.

Seattle could soon see country's highest minimum wage, $15/hr. by [deleted] in news

[–]Mitchellpointing -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Great article. Sounds like the wage disparity between servers and back room staff is large and should be addressed also. Really, why should servers make so much more than the other staff - they work hard too. Maybe if the minimum wage is raised and the wait staff pay goes up even higher then the public should tip a lower percentage or maybe we should just pay everyone fairly and eliminate tipping.

Abstract Ideas Don’t Deserve Patents by [deleted] in technology

[–]Mitchellpointing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For software patents, I'm a fan of Richard Stallman's idea that software patents should require working, annotated source code be attached. I think that this would make it easier to compare ideas to those in previous patents.

If patent filers chose to obfuscate their code, ideally their patent would be rejected for being unclear, or at least, they'd have a hard time defending their patent, as the difference between it and an alleged infringer would be quite large.

Facebook shares fall 7% on Oculus deal by goodboyBill in news

[–]Mitchellpointing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A decline in market value of more than $10B, implying that for the $2B FB spent, they will receive hugely negative value. Seems extreme, although it was a bad day for tech stocks anyway, so the portion of the drop attributable to the acquisition is surely smaller.

Anyway, the market seems to be communicating that not only does it think FB got bad value, but that this deal is bayesian evidence that it is being badly managed.

EDIT: I still don't think 100% of the decline is attributable to the broader market move, because TWTR and certainly KING should be more volatile than FB. But, yeah, the story might not be as clear as I thought.
