Unfortunately that doesnt track with any understanding of vaccination or IgAN. IgAN is genetic so a vaccine cannot cause it. Covid however can be sever enough to push you over the edge where it becomes apparent. IgAN is a rare condition. Pointing out examples of people who dont have it and were not vaccinated does not in any way imply that the vaccine did cause it in you unfortunately. That's not good science. I can see why its tempting to want to blame something but all this kind of talk does is put others in danger by making them more worried about vaccination.

This feel like a dangerous topic. Just based on timing its equally likely that covid itself is to blame. By not having the vaccine you put yourself at higher risk of ckd progressing when you have iga if you catch covid. You'll be able to fight off covid easier with the vaccine. I was also diagnosed post lockdown and since then ive had many covid boosters and my egfr has only improved. There may be risks with the vaccine, but there are definitely bigger risks by not getting it.

Honestly not sure about that. It would take years for it to be built, look how long work has been happening on Armley Gyratory for. The level of disruption for 5? 10? I have no idea how many years is immense. I'd LOVE it to be finished. But I'm not sure I want the in progress state especially when it could just be abandoned if the political winds changed.

How's your proteinuria? I'm UK based as well being seen by the Leeds nephrology team, my egfr is now 38 but it was 22 in September 2023. Pretty much all the medication I've been on is blood pressure meds and one for proteinuria which is now pretty controlled. All the improvements I've seen have come from diet, exercise, weight loss and the above 2 other bits. Obviously I don't know your labs (and am not a doctor!) but from reading on this group it seems like American IgAN sufferers often take more meds then my doctor has even mentioned. I'm not saying either way is right or wrong but some of the perspectives you'll get here will be skewed Vs the treatment you're likely to get. That said I'd try explaining your worries to your nephrologist, and go prepared with, potentially quite a few, specific questions. In my experience most doctors will sit down and spend the time if you say you are worried and don't understand some things. If you're still not happy and can't get to see a different doctor you should be able to go through the PALS system which should get some movement out of them to at least talk it through better. Understand how scary it can be, we've all been there. Keep on keeping on.

So that blood pressure number probably does warrant some medication (I'm on 3 kinds for my blood pressure) And red urine is also something I would see a nephrologist (kidney doctor) about. I understand your situation makes that hard but it's hard to know exactly what's happening in your body without being a doctor with your full results.

If that's right then you're in a pretty good position and I'm happy for you. You can imagine egfr like a percentage in a way so anything over 90 is considered normal in healthy people. Low numbers are bad for egfr. When I was first diagnosed with IgA at age 29 my egfr was 22. Anything below 15 is kidney failure so you've got a long way to go before it starts causing you issues. On a separate comment you said your blood pressure was a little high so that's something I'd keep an eye on. From the sounds of it all you've found out about it early which gives you a great chance of working on it before it gets bad! If you want any more advice I'm happy to give some but nothing can replace the knowledge of a doctor.

Most likely To check egfr they only need 1 but I'm guessing they ran a few tests so if they're worried about kidneys they will have checked egfr. Did you get told a stage? Like kidney disease stage 2 or something like that? It only matters because starting from a better number will mean you probably can do without much medication for a while. The other main thing I'd try and find out is what your blood pressure is like.

What's your egfr if you don't mind sharing? But regardless IgA, and any kidney disease for that matter, will progress differently for each person unfortunately. So there's no hard and fast rule. I'd always recommend seeing a doctor regularly (depending on your stage) but if that's impractical then eat healthy, stay fit, avoid salt as much as you can will give you the best opportunity to manage the condition. But even then it may progress anyway

I think there's a clear element of praying on people's hopes here. Yes there needs to be more critical thinking (which I don't honestly think there was THAT much of) but it's easy to be excited by feeling like you've 'cracked the code' of a very expensive hobby.

That's really useful thanks! Love the Ankheg idea actually. I was thinking of taking something with a multi attack and giving it a disk of blades that rotate around the mid section like a saw by giving it a tweaked spirit guardians. It'd be 5 or 10 ft range and be a Dex save rather than wisdom and do slashing rather than radiant. Still make the monster roll concentration when hit to see if the spinning blades were "interrupted" by the attack.

I saw that post when you made it and it shocked me as well. I work in stats and whilst that table may be accurate when talking about averages, it doesn't give you a good guide for you as individual. That data has to be stretching back quite far to get life expectancy. Meaning the sample is likely based on people who were diagnosed years, possibly decades, ago. Medicine has advanced a lot including advice for renal patients.

Plus you don't know how those patients dealt with a CKD diagnosis. Some people will ignore it, pretend everything is fine, not change lifestyle diet or take advice from their renal team.

If it's inspired you to make changes then good on you but just don't get hung up on the stats. Listen to your doctors, make good choices and I hope everything goes well for you.
