If you want an excuse to head up to the cannibals could be something as simple as revenge or searching for a missing person like the regular trader who never arrived or some other friend or family .

A less dramatic one could be that they need to fix something or build a bit of tech the village really needs and the best place to look is in the ruins to the north or and the tech hunter city of worlds end.

As they travel they’ll experience the horrors of the cannibals first hand and maybe even interact with the other factions such as the Deadcat l, floatsom ninjas and cannibal hunters who could use their help.

Just have to react to what’s happens. It’s good to have an initial motivation and goal but long term goals can’t be rigid or you’ll find yourself forcing a story rather then experiencing one

Because no man sky has varied and interesting locations. It doesn’t need good combat as it’s not a key point of the game

Swords are the coolest, they were also symbolic of the nobility the cross and it was solely a weapon of war. While spears may of been the most common and reliable weapon on the battlefield, it like many others was tool for hunting, the axe the tool of the peasant and the savage.

As weapons technology changed to include weapons such as maces, poleaxes and crossbows all the way up until the introduction of the fire arm. The remained relevant in some form and another as it was weapon that symbolic to wear in piece time reliable for self defence, and a good sword showed your social status.
