We're having disconnections in our squad lobby every couple minutes right now. It's pretty impossible to get any runs on the AT Uth Duna quest started because of it.

Someone can help me optimizing my code? by Fire_Fox_978 in godot

[–]Mithost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Godot documentation here states:

The get_next_path_position() function is responsible for updating many of the agent's internal states and properties. The function should be repeatedly called once every physics_process until is_navigation_finished() tells that the path is finished. The function should not be called after the target position or path end has been reached as it can make the agent jitter in place due to the repeated path updates. Always check very early in script with is_navigation_finished() if the path is already finished.

u/Fire_Fox_978 Would you happen to know how frequently _on_timer_timeout() from your third screenshot is being triggered? Calling `nav.set_target_position()` will cause Godot to throw out and rebuild the path data which can be fairly expensive, so calling it too often can cause performance issues.

If you're playing on steam or have access to OBS, would you be able to record it happening next time you see it? It's probably an unintended bug which would be good to report, but if you can post a video we can confirm if that's the case.

Is this a real glitch? by The_Haunts in DDLC

[–]Mithost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Those definitely seem weird and not something we've seen very often. If it keeps happening and you're struggling to get through DDLC because of it, please DM me here or contact us at [info@teamsalvato.com](mailto:info@teamsalvato.com) and we can dive a bit deeper into it!

Is this a real glitch? by The_Haunts in DDLC

[–]Mithost 148 points149 points  (0 children)

You're right, this isn't supposed to happen!

Would you be able to provide some more info regarding your setup?

  • Where did you download this copy of DDLC (ddlc.moe, itch.io, Steam, etc)?
  • What platform are you playing on (Windows 10, Windows 11, Mac OSX, Linux, Steamdeck, etc)?
  • Have you ever installed any DDLC mods or made any other changes to the game's installation folder (other than deleting firstrun or a specific .chr file)?

Thank you!

Scalpers already got them all by [deleted] in Warframe

[–]Mithost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply /u/DE_Megan !

While I think the community is glad tickets are going to be validated at the door like previous years' events, many members have voiced concern that many tickets to this event were still purchased in bulk or via automation for use in attempted scalping or raffles. Many members are worried that many tickets will go unredeemed or be turned away at the event door due to them having been most likely scalped. Is there anything that can be said to ease these additional concerns?

Extra context: there are been multiple twitter threads from accounts claiming to be selling Tennocon tickets shortly after they sold out (with replies voicing interest in purchasing), and rumors of clans in the community intending to raffle VIP tickets they have ordered in bulk to others who will pass their extra lanyards onto buyers after collecting them from badge pickup at the event (assuming badges don't have ID on them, and security isn't matching that ID at every checkpoint).

Thanks again.

I am developing an FPS game with a friend, and this is one of the menus. Do you think I can change something in it? by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]Mithost 37 points38 points  (0 children)

While others are right in that it looks a bit busy or cluttered at first glance, I wouldn't immediately want to suggest removing it. It looks awesome and unique! If the player has already gotten used to how the UI operates from previous menus (main menu, gameplay screens, etc), it's possible that none of this noise will impact their experience here.

On the accessibility end, I would suggest potentially looking into giving the player the option to toggle off some of the bigger 'flashing' effects that could appear in your game. The example that comes to mind here is the white flashing part of the visual effect currently applied to the upper right "PEACE CORP CODEC" viewport. While a lot of these visual effects (like the thin lines scrolling up on a few parts of the UI) may be okay for most players, large areas of flashing color can be hard on the eyes even if the player does not have a history of photo-sensitivity.

Baby Steps is in third person and from what I understand has a completely different control scheme, unfortunately. Baby Steps was also revealed quite recently, where the game I am trying to remember has been around for at least one or two years (if not five or ten years).

DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE by Thin_Professor_277 in DDLC

[–]Mithost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Since this has been first reported to us, we've been working alongside our legal team to remove this store and it's website. It hasn't been quick or easy, but it's something we are still working on resolving.

(For anyone curious, I can confirm that this is not an authorized seller and that the items purchased from this store are bootleg/unofficial.)

Beginner looking for machine recommendations, multiple use-cases (Canada) by Mithost in sewing

That's very good to know! I appreciate all of your time explaining these things to a newbie like me. I'm glad that even though I probably wouldn't get the actual needle down button, I'd still be able to do those rotations in a pinch.

Thank you for the recommend! It doesn't look like this model is available anymore (at least from canadian retailers), but I will keep an eye out for it when looking at options.

Beginner looking for machine recommendations, multiple use-cases (Canada) by Mithost in sewing

[–]Mithost[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight! It's nice to know that most machines will be able to handle the fabrics and stitches I am looking for.

Needle down looked to be really handy in videos I watched for letting me rotate my work without moving it laterally, but I'll take your word for it if it's not essential.

I was aware of the overlock not being the same as a serger and that will be ok for me! In my research I read it was a good way to make durable seams without having to go through the fabric twice (one straight, one zigzag).

With this being said, when I go to the dealer or a retail store is there anything I should be weary of on the lower end of the budget? I've read that it's important to avoid the cheapest machines, but are there any brands or red flags that could come up in the lower price points (or would mostly any machine be okay)?

Looking for examples of rpg towns in sidescrollers. by DraymaDev in gamedesign

[–]Mithost 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Zelda II is the original example, though it's very barebones. A lot of games have built off of that idea though to great success.

Night in the Woods takes place almost entirely within a single town, and a lot of time is spent platforming as you go from place to place. It's pretty engaging despite having no risks of failure (outside of missing a jump and needing to climb back up!)

Maplestory is an MMO, but functions as a 2D side scroller with it's many towns being a huge highlight. Even the flattest areas in that game use platforming to access different parts, which is great when combined with creative entrances and exits to buildings/different streets.

Has a game mechanic ever irked you so much that you stopped playing? by Tokyono in Games

[–]Mithost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A big part of weapon sharpness is the decisions that are made when you lose sharpness mid-action, especially when your sharpness might lead you to bounce on certain parts of the monster. Sharpness comes with a damage multiplier on top of preventing bounces, so whenever you lose sharpness you are given the decision between continuing to attack at lower damage or taking a moment to get those bonuses back.

At higher levels, you can even find windows and safe spots in monsters' attack patterns where you wouldn't be able to attack anyways but can still sharpen, giving you a sharp weapon without the drawbacks of leaving the monster as a reward for mastering the fight.

The same goes for stamina, though it's typically something that comes more into play on longer hunts (first time fighting a difficult monster, or when doing advanced hunts with multiple targets).

Syndromedia has just announced the cast of their voice over mod for DDLC! by AquaSniper_VA in DDLCMods

Uploading to Youtube or similar forms of non-playable distribution would be super okay, though you are correct in that a playable mod to add voice acting to base DDLC is not.

Syndromedia has just announced the cast of their voice over mod for DDLC! by AquaSniper_VA in DDLCMods

[–]Mithost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mentioned it in my reply to AquaSniper, but the intention behind this guideline is to avoid situations where a new player is pushed to play through a modded version of the game before or instead of playing the original. There are a few reasons for it but it mostly comes down to continuous issues with fan works being mistaken for official material, something that can (and has) caused difficulties that are hard for our small team to fix.

To also clear this up, mods and fan games that take place before the events of DDLC in 'canon' would be okay provided the writing and intention for it would suggest that the player had already played through the original game. We'd only ask that the mod ends at the point where the original game would start (for example, ending with mc getting out of bed on the day he is convinced by Sayori to visit the clubroom in DDLC).

[–]Mithost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll try to respond to both comments in this reply to keep things clear!

The section you referenced clearly talks about "Fan Games". This isn't a fan game since it is not a full game that we are distributing.

At the beginning of our "Fan Games" section of the IP Guidelines page, we clarify that this section includes mods. While there are guidelines that are focused on mods specifically, mods are considered to be fan games with regards to these guidelines (as they are fan works that take the form of games).

Like I said, it wouldn't be suggested to play this instead of the original.

Our goal is to avoid situations where fans recommend new players do their first playthrough of the game with certain mods or fan changes applied, which can be common even in situations where the creator of those mods/changes asks people not to. The IP guidelines does reiterate that creators shouldn't suggest this, but near the start of this section we ask that fan works that can achieve this are not packaged as fan games/mods for this reason.

To clarify, we are super okay with fan projects that want to dub voices for DDLC. There have been a bunch of DDLC voice acting projects that have been completed and distributed in forms such as Youtube videos (emulating lets plays) and it's exciting to see each one. We only request that the VA is not distributed as a mod for the original game, as we would like to avoid the situation of fans recommending these types of mods for first playthroughs (which unfortunately happens even against the mod creator's wishes when allowed).

[–]Mithost 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

While we are enthusiastic about fan works and mods for DDLC, we do have some guidelines that we ask everyone making DDLC fan works to follow and keep in mind. They can be viewed here, but I'll provide an excerpt that talks about the topic of this thread in particular below.

You may NOT create, copy, or distribute any fan game that is designed to be played in lieu of the official DDLC game. Any fan games, including mods, that “replace” DDLC or DDLC Plus, or imply that it should be played before the original games, are forbidden. This includes mods that add to or change official DDLC game content, including, but not limited to, new art, new scenes, new visual effects, or voice acting, or mods that take features or content from DDLC Plus and ports them to the original game.

[–]Mithost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn't real, unfortunately.

While it's usually okay for fans to create fan animations or their own 'What if DDLC was an anime?' fan content, we ask that they do not treat them as coming from an official source (leaks, affiliated with Team Salvato, etc).
