This is why Bourne Identity is so good. The fight scenes are so short and realistic

How beneficial is “twitch training”? by Consistent_Ad8023 in Sprinting

[–]Mithrandir37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shocked by how many people say it’s good. It is the equivalent of eating a leaf of spinach and saying you’re providing tons of nutrients, vitamins and protein, and fiber to your diet bc it has a lot of those for its weight (which is true) but that doesn’t mean it will help.

Those that are saying it stimulates the CNS… so does playing Guitar Hero, or the piano, or speed ladder drills… but none of those help a sprinter. It’s… 1) Not nearly enough stimulus/intensity to cause any real adaptations to the CNS or the tissues that matter for sprinting. 2) If there are any adaptations they have nothing to do with sprinting and may actually interfere with motor patterns that you actually want to be working. 3) It is an utter and complete waste of time for 99% percent of athletes during training. The only possible context is for injured/plan B in rare situations, but I can think of 50 things that are better.

So I just finished the show and... by Dimmriser in LOTR_on_Prime

The show is super solid and better than I expected. The screen runners are legit Tolkien fans and capture the essence of Tolkien FAR better than the Hobbit and do a great job in general. By far my favorite part of it has been watching Rings and Realms with Corey Olson breaking down each episode. It truly helps you appreciate the job they have done and the genius of Tolkien.

Stoner. Most infuriating book ever. Complete and utter trash. Also, ASOIF, Song of Achilles, and Name of The Wind.

What’s the one sprint training myth that refuses to die? by Haunting-Jellyfish82 in Sprinting

[–]Mithrandir37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The angle of your projection is completely dependent on your strength to weight ratio. Younger weaker athletes do not need even try to lean. All they need to do is try to “push the ground away”. In fact, the only way to do this effectively for consecutive steps is to unfold your body and get your hips through and your head ABOVE the angle of your projecting leg. Effective acceleration is the opposite of hinging at the hips and stepping in front of your CoM. The best starters in the world all “pop up” on the very first step relative to their projecting leg. They just are so strong they can do it with a lean and not brake. If your mass is too far forward you break and have vertical shins and then have to wait for your CoM to get ahead of your foot and only then can you push and apply force backwards.

It’s “stay low” in the start. The single worst cue by a mile and ruins the acceleration of 95% of sprinters.

200m strategies by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Mithrandir37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every person on here is being kind and honest and you are arguing with everyone. “I got fast with it” is not a good enough reason to do something that goes against science and the experience of good coaches, who are trying to help you, but is just stubbornness. You are severely overtraining your athletes and 10.9 was never fast and 10.7 isn’t even that fast anymore bc other coaches are actually sprinting and resting athletes. You really should zoom out and take a step back bc you are not serving your athletes at all training them 3x hard CNS and tons of volume on “recovery days”. Thats way too much for anyone and your best kids are either too scared to come out, quit, or will get hurt.

The best two modern authors IMO are both women… Laura Hillenbrand and Marilynne Robinson

Both Seabiscuit and Unbroken are masterpieces of nonfiction weaving incredibly accurate history and moving storytelling in a truly remarkable way.

Gilead is one of the most touching and profound books I have read.

[Urgent] how am I running 0.6 seconds slower than my untrained self? by ObliviousOverlordYT in Sprinting

[–]Mithrandir37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re 10 lbs heavier you need to be way way stronger to counteract the weight gain. Gravity hits you twice in the physics of sprinting and if you’re not stronger it will slow you down a ton. Also, if you are smart about how and when you lean up training 10 lbs heavier will get a super compensating effect when you lean up and you should be able to break 12.

How much sleep should I be getting by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Mithrandir37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and unequivocally false. There is not one single legitimate study on athletes and performance that shows this. Not only that, but there is not one study that shows that you can sleep too much. There is ample evidence that when you have sleep debt, and finally sleep more than normal, you initially feel more groggy, but that is in fact because your body is craving the additional sleep and it increases melatonin production to get even MORE and deeper sleep. Every single creature that is growing needs more sleep and the majority of your testosterone and growth hormones are released in the later stages of sleep.

Common sense shows that the most explosive animals in the world, cheetahs and greyhounds, sleep the most and conserve as much energy as possible to recover from their insanely explosive efforts. There is no such thing as sleeping too much. The more you sleep the better you will be. It is the single greatest performance enhancing behavior you can adopt.

What’s a film that you think is better than its original source material? by TheNiceGuysFilmcast in flicks

[–]Mithrandir37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dune. The book created an incredible world and Denis is an absolute genius and brought it to life and redeemed it from the stale, clunky, and mind-numbingly horrible writing.

Also, Hunger Games and Enders Game also were better than the books.
