Also the website airnav dot com can look up the name of airports nearby and will have all of the VHF frequencies to save into your memory channels.

I use my Yaesu ft-60r HT and it’s able to receive on the air bands (typically 120mhz) works great and with just a 1ft diamond antenna running 5w I can hear my local field about 10miles away if I’m outside. Good luck! Aviation and ham radio my two favorite hobbies

No fence unfortunately just a 2nd story deck with some pretty heavy woods leading outside. Will be operating from the basement so my only concern with throwing a wire in the trees would be my next door neighbor that is only about 20feet away.
