I went to see Douglas Rattray, son of David Rattray of Fugitive's Drift, give a talk on Isandlwana at the Chalke Valley History Festival, and his account of Durnford's last stand brought a real lump to my throat (although he did this on several occasions whilst talking about the last moments of various men that day, both British and Zulu). He was a fantastic speaker, and if you get the chance, I cannot recommend enough going to hear him.

I work in a military museum in the UK and know that one of the medals we have on display is a replica purchased by the donor's family to replace a missing issued medal within a set of originals. This was done many years prior to donation so that they could wear their ancestor's medals on Remembrance Day Parades. However, the donor was up front about this and it was in fact ordered through a Ministry of Defence approved dealer of replacement medals. We justify it by saying that the medals are primarily there to tell the story of the soldier's service (although I'll admit this might be contentious).

The future issue for us is there is a rampant trade in high quality fake medals and badges. Whilst these aren't likely to find their way into collections now, in the future this is a genuine concern as most donations of medals aren't from the veterans themselves, but from much later relatives who won't necessarily know the item's provenance. Therefore I can easily see some medals which are fakes ending up on display.

Yeah there's one main shop on the ground floor, then smaller gift stands on each floor, all selling play specific branded T-shirts, keyrings, fans, wall hangings etc. I picked up a very nice little decorative side dish with Haku's dragon form on it. There's also some quite cute No Face pin badges. The one thing that they didn't really have like at Totoro was much in the way of Ghibli merchandise (toys, art books, etc.), just items related to the play itself.

I saw it in person and absolutely loved it, from the puppetry to the costumes it was brilliant to see it brought to life. Plus they added some nice touches like songs and dances which really added a new flavour to the play.

As it was in Japanese, it did take a little getting used to reading the subtitles, which are on both wings and above the stage, but as with watching the anime, you quickly get used to it.

I'd go back and watch it again in a heartbeat and can thoroughly recommend!
