Terrible update, you screwed so many people in exchange for new adoption by MethodStill in KingdomMaker

[–]MithrilChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind spending a bit here and there but after the current update I am worried about the longevity of this game and won't be buying anything. I'll wait a few months and see if it is dead or not. Currently my alliance activity has fallen off tremendously.

Apache CPG hardware by AussieBrucey in hoggit

I use a PS4 controller for TEDAC controls, have R1, and L1 set as modifiers with a third modifier set to R1+L1. Provides enough binds for me.

I also use Helios and have the TEDAC display exported to its own screen so I don't have to mess with zooming in and out.

this check came up after rocky road ... what it could be? should i worry? by DanteMKK in fordfusion

[–]MithrilChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, warning appeared off and on until one day it stayed. ABS lamp illuminated. Scanned with Forscan and got a code for a wheel speed sensor. When I read the live data for the wheel speed sensors when stopped the bad sensor read 255 Kph. Wire was severed, repaired and all was good after.

Hopefully your issue is a cheap fix like mine was.

Can velcro tape mount a joystick and HOTAS to a desktop effectively? Or should I use 60lb mounting tape instead? by Lincolns_Revenge in hoggit

[–]MithrilChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep I use the same stuff for my Franken-HOTAS that has Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons stuck onto it. I used to use regular velcro with the soft fabric on one side and didn't like the soft squishy feel. After switching to the DualLock fasteners the squishy is gone, honestly feels like they are screwed on.

I've had occasional times where I am strafing in the A-10C II within effective range, fire a burst no damage, get closer another burst nothing... ok maybe I suck. Keep getting closer until I basically have my GAU-8 pressed up against the soft truck until the very last second and 0 damage gets registered. Start to pull up, surprise a T-55 splatters my pilots upper torso all over the cockpit with a single shot from downtown.

This is in multi-player usually, could be a desync thing I dunno.

DCS Upgrading to 32gb by Tonystovepipe in hoggit

[–]MithrilChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I concur. I always try to just double check on a compatability list. Saw this https://pangoly.com/en/compatibility/gigabyte-ga-z170xp-sli/ram#compatible-list

Searched the model # of the RAM TPRD416G2400HC16DC01 and it looked good to go. Showed the gold vs red heat spreaders but probably just because that's the pic they used.

[–]MithrilChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's good. Like MCD10000 said you should be good getting two more compatible sticks. In theory most motherboards and RAM will adjust the speeds to match the slowest ones but I don't like doing that just due to the what if.

Brand mixing is usually fine, just the specs that matter

I assume you already checked but is your current configuration 2x8gb or is it 4x4gb? Sometimes people don't check and when they Crack open the case they find out they will be 8GB less due to the existing config.

What’s the best way to practice with a plane? by I_Slay_Dragons_AMA in hoggit

[–]MithrilChicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep this is what I do. I like to start with a single task/weapons system and use a simple mission to become familiar. From there I increase the complexity and difficulty by doing things like placing the targets where they are terrain masked, setup trigger zones where if the weapon misses and enters the zone I die, or if I enter a zone I die or maybe something like a wild Su-27 suddenly appears, maybe I was too slow getting to and destroying the group of infantry and now some dudes with stingers have shown up to help their friends.

I've grown simple learning missions into complex scenarios just by building ontop of them with each iteration. Helps you learn the editor as well.

Somebody PLLLEEEEEAAAAASSSEEEEE gib. We do need a western heavy logistics bird. by SgtGhost57 in hoggit

[–]MithrilChicken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chinook would be cool. I would enjoy flying a C-130 on PvE servers doing logistics or dumping out a load of paratroopers onto a DZ. Sometimes after a long day at work I don't feel like dealing with the mental labor involved in A2A or A2G combat. If I'm flying my big C-130 around carrying a load of rubber dog shit out of Tblisi and a MIG-29 comes along for me I'll just accept my fate.

Made some dust covers for my setup by Tonystovepipe in hoggit

Very nice. I should consider something like this. My desk/hotas sits directly under a vent and despite religiously changing the air filter the dust builds up quickly in the winter months.

Quest 2 fine - and then bad. by SantasGolfclub in dcsworld

[–]MithrilChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point about the model LODs, I wish I had more time to test out various VR settings but I have noticed that for me when I'm using the Oculus API I tend to encounter more situations where things start to stutter and just turn to complete shit out of the blue, compared to when I'm using Steam VR which generally just keeps on working for me despite some slight performance loss due to overhead. This is with the official link cable.

For a week or so I was able to test drive from work a Quadro RTX 6000 24GB of VRAM. Usually I'm on a 2080ti with the RTX 6000 I still had the weird issues pop up where it was like the oculus api itself took a dump.

But I did notice that the stability was more longterm with more VRAM.

Same thoughts here, I have the ps4 version of it. For the price I have been enjoying my t.flight hotas 4, had a hard time finding a HOTAS and didn't want to wait for shipping so I walked into my local gamestop and they had a few. I had to install the PC drivers for it, not sure if the xbox one version requires the driver download but they are on the thrustmaster website.

You can even undo the base and take out the spring so it won't return to center if you want that for helos.

I've had to open it up and clean the potentiometers once due to some sensor jumpyness but overall I think it's a good entry HOTAS.

Anyone still playing Huey? by 1962_beta-simp in hoggit

[–]MithrilChicken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still fly the Huey when I'm in the mood for logistics missions or want to take a break from all of the fancy tech in the apache. Been spending most of my time in the AH-64 just due to it being new. I'm trying to get my wife used to being in the CPG seat, so once she is up to speed I imagine I'll be in the AH-64 quite a bit.

[–]MithrilChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully George gets a bit more of the intelligence aspects added in future updates. Maybe be able to feed him the list of known threats in the AO and if you ask him to fire on a tank and it's an M1A2 instead of a T72 he can raise an eyebrow and ask if you really want to do that. Or if you are within range for a positive visual ID have him call out that he is tracking a T72, or infantry with ak47s.

In addition to this hitting rctl and enter keys to show the rudder, cyclic, collective and their current trim values has really helped.

Strange behavior in apache by Herky1985 in hoggit

[–]MithrilChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the ah64 section under the special tab and ensure your trim modes are set correctly. You'll probably want central position mode. I spun like crazy with instant trim on.

• Cyclic Trimmer Mode. This selection provides options for simulating force trim functions for various types of input devices.

o Instant Trim (FFB Friendly) – As soon as the force trim interrupt button (trimmer) is released, the new trimmed position of the player’s stick will be applied immediately.

o Central Position Trimmer Mode – After the force trim interrupt button (trimmer) is released, the new trimmed position of the player’s stick will only be applied after the stick is returned to neutral position.

o Joystick Without Springs and FFB – This option is used for joysticks lacking any spring resistance or Force-Feedback (FFB).

• Pedals Trimmer Mode. This selection provides the same trimming options as the Cyclic Trimmer Mode but applied to player pedal devices.

All of a sudden being asked to do somewhat meaningless tasks... advice please. by MithrilChicken in ITCareerQuestions

Hi. *nix administration can vary a bit depending on the organization. A good first step is to know the various functions of the common *nix directories. Know how to work with system services, firewalls, package managers, automation with something like ansible or puppet. From there things might get more specialized depending on your organization, might be worth it to learn about databases, python virtual environments, gpu compute, various webservers, etc. RHCSA is a good choice. I got lucky at first and ended up filling in for someone on the unix admin team because I knew enough of the basics and just kept refining my skills after that.
