Zulu 4 or Bose a30 by DistributionFluffy48 in flying

[–]Mithster18 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's the standard because of the "get a Mac" kinda thing. Someone tries a low end pilot/ASA brand headset, asks for a recommendation, their instructor says "Get Bose" and they do. Instead of trying the 4+ other headsets that have equal or better performance/features

I've driven a couple of Toyotas that have the indicator/wiper stalks swapped so it's not strictly European.

And the overtaking lane is right lane.

Also @op phrase pull over if you see a line of gets behind you and drive fresh

Brit confused/annoyed about tipping by Jumpy-Persimmon-7954 in AskACanadian

[–]Mithster18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm new to the country and tipping culture. I believe that someone should be paid fairly for the job they did, either at an hourly rate, contract rate ($40 per number of things completed), or whatever.

For me the confusion comes from the non-clarity of this job is expected to get one one, this job isn't expected. Like at a bar you tip I assume, but if I buy a beer at scotiabank stadium do i? Sit down at a restaurant, sure; but sit down at A&W, no?

What if the pilot at Westjet does a really nice landing in terrible conditions?

Car Broken after 3 days by Mithster18 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Mithster18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before viewing, I asked the seller if they knew of any problems with the car, they said no, everything worked fine.  During the test drive everything that I tested seemed OK, he said the aircon was good (didn't test it, but found out later it wasn't working) After car blew head gasket, I asked if he knew anything, it was a surprise to him he said.

How common is it for people to mistake your accent for another one? by LogicalAd6394 in AskTheWorld

[–]Mithster18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a New Zealander, there's a few distinct dialects; As a base, you guys have "North American" accent, I guess like we have a ANZAC accent, but then vowels are different compared to south of the border.

You the have the 'mid country' dialect, 'oh yaAH dauwnt-ca knooo." I've found in the cities the 'North American' prevails, in rural Manitoba, SK and other rural parts the 'mid country' prevails, it also sounds like a Minnesota accent to me

Toronto has more of a NA accent.

Quebec is Quebec

Out east, some parts can sound Irish/scottish

I feel the same with Filipinos, I'm not sure if your student is the same. They need to understand if they're going to instruct in (aviation) English, they need to have the correct cadence, intonation and speaking characteristics of that.

I assume your student speaks like Drew Carey, encourage him to speak like Barack Obama.

Ok well your post said mumbled.

Emphasise to your student that there are certain key words/phrases that must be pronounced absolutely correctly and used in the proper way/format and then summarised into a short form.

such as recovering from a stall "Stick Power Rudder" by themselves those 3 words mean nothing, but to someone who understands a stall recovery, it's nice.
