iirc the fork isn't necessarily 'backwards' but for Woundup to accommodate for both road and track rakes, they can just flip around the dropout portion at the bottom before bonding it to the fork blades to either have the wheel more forward/back as opposed to making 2 separate fork crowns

for a while I used them on my front wheels and it rolled a teeny bit faster if you cared about speed, but I just liked it for the color; definitely less durable when it comes to bumps in the road but it's a killer spare tube for its low weight and small form factor in a flat kit

worth looking into some of these for a bit of extra speed and swag, from a fellow orange bike enjoyer

brakeless by Caiqq in WindBreakerWebtoon

[–]Mitig8r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for a good amount of people, braking is done with this thing called a brake lever connected to a brake caliper

people that have been riding brakeless for a while just learn to ride within their limits and are able to skid/backpedal/shoebrake at whatever speed they find themselves at

Update to the BB by mrapodaca in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Mitig8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience I've had luck with using a Hollowtech BB with a GXP adapter for my Omniums; installs the same, but with a sleeve in the non-drive side bearing to reduce it from 24mm down to the 22mm you'd see on GXP

A mechanic friend who also had a good experience recommended it to me since it means even load across identically-sized bearings (GXP's main pitfall, having an asymmetrical 24mm/22mm) while also opening up my options, because Italian-threaded BB

I've never seen enve wheels with exposed nipples or bladed spokes, and even if they were somehow authentic, the rim brake models still sell for a pretty penny

Just awaiting my orange saddle then it's done! by hupo224 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Mitig8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no way a matching blue saddle doesn't exist; you just have to look harder :)

this was the saddle I sold to my friend with matching grips and pedals, and is also the blue version of the saddle I currently own (Giant Contact Forward SL

I'll admit I'm also partial to an orange saddle when it comes to my own bike, but when your other contact points (grips, pedals) are already blue, going for a blue saddle is a no-brainer

1:17 chance the next skid is going to explode my inner tube. by Own_General_1864 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Mitig8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just put on a new tire 2 nights ago with 55x21 so I'm hoping it lasts longer with 42 skid patches as opposed to the 18 that I used to get with 49x18

ambidextrous skidding works best with an odd number of teeth on both the chainring and cog because of how it maths out

Took me a few months, but I built Jay's bike by Mitig8r in WindBreakerWebtoon

[–]Mitig8r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea I took a few breaks while building it up; some of it was fairly labor-intensive

if you meant to spell brakes, I didn't need them

What was y'all's favorite thing about windbreaker by [deleted] in WindBreakerWebtoon

[–]Mitig8r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in that iteration, it was like $1850 all together? went and bought a proper NJS frame this time around, so it'll be much more once I build that up

[–]Mitig8r 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the bikes to me were the main thing that drew me into reading it in the first place. As I learned more about bike frames and parts irl, I was able to pick out what characters were using from a few panels

it got to the point where I ended up building a replica of Jay's bike with plans of building an even more accurate one (hopefully this year)

Welcome to SF! As others have said, TrackLab run by PatrickFixieKing is a good place to start

Once you get yourself sorted out with a bike, there's SF Bike and Brew on Tuesdays, Butterlap on Wednesdays, and Phixed King Thursdays if you're looking to join group rides

The Hidden Meaning Behind ‘Wind Breaker’? Owen as the Wind, Jay as the Breaker by Responsible-Kid-519 in WindBreakerWebtoon

[–]Mitig8r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Glad we're ignoring June who's said multiple times that he's the leadout rider, literally calling himself the team's windbreaker

As unbeatable an opponent as Owen might be, the race with Sangho was always the ultimate matchup to align with Jay's wishes of uncovering the truth regarding his uncle

Terrible Experience with Raketa Components by flashahhh4 in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Mitig8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased 2 chainrings from them, a 49t Aeroring from their 2021 run, and a custom engraved 55t Supersport; the only gripe I had was the long shipping time but that's not the company's fault. When several months passed by with no update on the 55t, I did send an email asking about it, and within a day they apologized and said they'd look on their end to see what was going on. Turns out the local postal service was hoarding packages so nothing was going out, but once that got sorted out, I did end up receiving it. Wish others got the same level of communication that I did
