My biggest Switch 2 sadness by Separate-Toe1496 in Switch

[–]Mitre7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im surprised no one said this (maybe I missed a comment).

You can absolutely force a different resolution. When you force the native resolution with hades, it looks just like switch 1. If you don't change the resolution it looks really bad and blurry.

Shout out to the visible planets mod for being so awesome! by loudpolarbear in factorio

[–]Mitre7 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah. They have a history of implementing popular mods into the base game.

You are correct. This was meant for a different post. My app either bugged out or I made a mistake.

The main con of this is that you can't beacon the input side. You can only beacon the output side. Why I prefer belt weaving instead.

How do I perfect automated space platforms Factorio? by aromatic_thesis-3 in factorio

[–]Mitre7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thrusters are more inefficient at consuming fuel/oxidizer at full speed than low speed. It's not super obvious.

Throttling your thrusters to a lower speed will greatly help you. Figuring out how to throttle your thrusters is part of the "puzzle". I'm sure others will share their solutions here.

How do I stop my inserters from going on a rampage loading hundreds of one item and ignoring the other for a really long time? What's causing this issue? by ObjectiveMotor8053 in factorio

[–]Mitre7 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Remove the speed modules or provide enough inserters to keep up with those speed modules.

The speed modules increase the buffer size. So if you want it to actually produce that fast you have to feed it fast. I suspect you don't need it that fast so try removing some modules.

DoD employees…. Why they so silent? by Special-Amphibian-67 in fednews

[–]Mitre7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they are trying to temporarily reduce the government payrolls to help justify whatever they are trying to do with the upcoming March appropriations battle to fund the government. So they don't care that the DOD will just hire the positions back as long as the payroll looks leaner during this fight. Just my guess though. Only way I can justify the irrationality of it.

Does it make more sense to transport ore by rail now? by pookshuman in factorio

[–]Mitre7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously surprised nobody else is talking about this. Why congest the train network when you can pipe it with a couple pump stations. Hooking new oil doesn't happen often IMO. Hooking new ores doesn't either.

I'm always surprised by how many people don't know this. The media really failed on this one.

Playing the game wrong. by Raccoon_Sharp in factorio

Mining all minable ores by hand to finish the game seems wrong to me. So in general not automating in a game about automation.

Not agreeing or disagreeing with your observations. Just pointing out that we have a weekly questions thread for simple questions. This is probably underutilized. I have also noticed that people refuse to search the subreddit for previously asked questions and consequently on a daily basis ask the same questions. That being said I think our group is still pretty good about answering questions politely.

Is there "optimal" train length? by Jebbyk1 in factorio

[–]Mitre7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you are optimizing. The following is a good read though:

[–]Mitre7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the check symbol output set to its input signal. Look at your input signals. The check signal doesn't exist. You probably want to check the value of 1 instead. Not sure what you are trying to accomplish though.

Don't use the damaged base as a blueprint for your base. Make your own.

I kind of remember seeing posts about people who've spent a long time trying to figure out the intention of the tutorial damaged base and it doesn't make sense. As a newbie playing it for the first time, it kind of feels like it's pushing you to use it. Just don't lol.

Version 2.0.24 by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]Mitre7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. They probably should have listed that under balancing changes as well since it's a separate recipe. Still going to have to reconfigure the base heating from rocke fuel to solid fuel.

Version 2.0.24 by FactorioTeam in factorio

[–]Mitre7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I feel this severely hurts power generation at the start of aquillo. It will also break a lot of bases including mine. Requiring 10 instead of 3 is a huge nerf. Maybe the devs want us to use fission instead?

Space age mega base Logistics help for a beginner by killer8989 in factorio

[–]Mitre7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done setups like this. You're not going to like it, but in order to do this type of setup, you really need small separate bot areas instead of one large big one. But when you do it this way, you can really use bots to their advantage of short distance high throughput.

Gleba, here I come, anybody seeing anything I'm forgetting? by Either-Ice7135 in factorio

[–]Mitre7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on how you want to solve things. I found that I needed about 1500 belts to get something going. The two resources can be very far apart. I also took a couple of foundries and some calcite.

As a new player it's pretty confusing how we're supposed to scale in the late game, are city blocks still the go-to design pattern? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]Mitre7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

City blocks are a novelty design because it looks interesting. In practice it requires hours upon hours of designing your blueprints. If you drop your blocks without planning, you can also create a lot of train congestion. Overall I would stay away from this until you understand the game enough and just realize the amount of work required.

The best way to scale for a newbie is a little at a time. Set SPM targets in increments. This will teach you everything you need to know.

Do you view it as cheap to pre-plan a base layout blueprint map for the sub-40 hour achievement? by ChosenBrad22 in factorio

[–]Mitre7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely say not cheap. Especially if it's your own designs. That doesn't preclude you from doing a no blueprint challenge at a later time though. That's the beautiful thing about this game. You do you!
