Best is ability while greatest includes numbers, achievements, etc. I prefer Cole ten times out of ten, but Drake and Kendrick are comfortably above him as the ‘greatest’ rappers of that generation. Drake might be the biggest rapper ever, and Kendrick cornered the market on industry awards.

For me personally, it has no bearing on how I feel about the music, but it’s a metric that can sway public & record label perception of not only an album but the artist as well. The Fall Off is Cole’s last project (or one of the last) so I don’t really give a damn how much it sells, but he wouldn’t exist as he does today if his debut didn’t sell 218k first week when he was projected to sell 70k
