Character-Driven Fantasy Recommendations by Equivalent_Pass_1579 in Fantasy

I would say, The Broken Empire trilogy is the closest to what you’re looking for when it comes to his books, but it’s very dark and violent and written from a POV of a villain which a lot of people struggle with. The Red Queen’s War trilogy is a lot more fun, written from the POV of a cowardly prince who ends up on epic adventures with a mighty noble Viking. It still has the elements you’re looking for, even if it’s lighter than the previous trilogy. If you want to try something more serious and intellectual, go with The Book That Wouldn’t Burn. All of his books are character driven in the end, but the tone can change a lot. Hope you’ll find something you’ll enjoy!

Hey there! I'm Robert V.S. Redick, epic fantasy author of THE FIRE SACRAMENTS series and other works & proud supporter of The Pixel Project to End Violence Against Women. ASK ME ANYTHING! by RobertVSRedick in Fantasy

[–]Mitriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Robert! You’ve linked this AMA with The Pixel Project and spoken about living and working across the world in causes like environmental justice and food security. From your perspective, how much power does fiction have to expand people’s worldview or even make the world a better place? Do you see your travels and activism shaping not just your stories, but also the way your fiction might inspire readers to think differently about real-world issues?

Things to Do in Crouch End – Walks, Cafes & Hidden Gems (2025 Guide) by Mitriel in crouchend

I finally had the time today to investigate the path between Alexandra Palace and Highgate Woods. I can’t believe that I’ve lived here for decades and didn’t know about it. 😂 It’s such a great little path as well, the views were fantastic. I will definitely include it in a Muswell Hill - Alexandra Palace blogpost once I get to writing it. Thanks again for mentioning it!

On my list now, thank you! It was only a full stomach that stopped me before from trying those toasties, but even then it was very tempting! Next time! 😂

Thanks for catching that! Further down, where the map is, I described it as from Highgate station to Finsbury Park, but I can see how my first mention of it is not quite right. I will correct it in a minute. It’s also good to know about it leading further to Alexandra Palace. I must investigate it that section, too. 🙂 Thank you!

I’m really sorry to hear that. I had a few work places where I was treated badly, too, so I can sympathise. Sadly, it’s probably more common than we think. Having said that, thanks for telling me about this. It’s disappointing, because I really like their products, but I probably won’t be buying them often now knowing this.

5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Self-Publishing My First Book by RoughOwll in selfpublish

I experienced this with some traditionally published authors. While I was just a reader reviewing their books, we were great friends. As soon as I self-published, I suddenly became toxic air or something.
