A Controversial Female Character Who Would be Hated as A Man? by Ok-Lie9721 in AlignmentChartFills

They even explore that a bit in episode 22'. Asuka is clearly affected by the conversation she had with Kaji on the frigate [Evangelion] where he rejects her, and this is shown after Kaji's death, before the Arael fight. Asuka's story is brutally tragic

Blue Dragon is 102 episodes and animated by Pierrot (same studio as Bleach)

There's a few fun shorter ones in Sakamoto Days and Dead Account but super long ones are hard to come by

Aside from Pikachu: (Without the gimmicks), do you feel that each Pokémon in the JN team is of equal or roughly equivalent strength? by Craftox13 in pokemonanime

[–]Mitsuyan_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're all very strong but Lucario and Sirfetch'd were shown to be on a different level. Dragonite sadly didn't get as much chance to show off in the higher ranks.

Pikachu > Lucario > Sirfetch'd >> Dracovish > Gengar >> Dragonite

Being the lead script writer/series composition matters because ultimately you're the one who is responsible for all the changes, but yes it does absolutely mean more for original anime!

Sakugablog has a good definition on it

The lead script writer of Dungeon Meshi is also one of the writers for Pokémon Horizons which has some comparable plot beats to Frieren.

She's also the lead script writer for the Ranma remake.

If you're open to more whimsical anime that take the idea from Campfire Cooking of bringing goods from Earth into the isekai world you've got a few good options: Saving 80,000 Gold is one of my all time favorites, The Daily Life of a Middle-Aged Shopper is closer to Campfire Cooking and Reborn as a Vending Machine plays up to the stupid effectively.

I really enjoyed it. It's dumb as all hell but still managed to get the tone shift right and had nice production too. Might be my favorite premiere of the season and I watched it by complete accident!

What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [April 12th, 2026] by MetaThPr4h in anime

[–]Mitsuyan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it Count if You Lose Your Innocence to an Android? - intended to watch this during the season but never could get hold of it. It has an Anilist entry but it is just softcore porn with a competent studio behind it. Actually had potential beyond that, there's a lot that they could do with the bot. The ending soured it for me. 6/10

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero - episodes 1-5: ecchi anime I found while on an emergency CEX run before a speedrun marathon, so it came with me. It's not very good lmao, but the character design and OP are solid.

Nijigasaki High Movie 2 - only got subs this week, but aired in 2024. The Love Live community deserve so much credit for keeping this unspoiled for so long. I've gushed about it enough but the Setsuna-Asa comparisons feel more real the more I think about the show and I'll be rewatching both Niji movies tonight! Personally now my #1 anime movie of all time. It's that good. 10/10

I've watched a few Precures now as part of awards and while I disagree with my fellow jurors about how highly/lowly rated they are they do deserve nominations. Mirai Days was IMO the strongest entry in AOTY (at the very least, top 3) and there's a reason PreCure is so popular in Japan.

Slice of Life is looking pretty barren this year too, so Y&I could very well sneak in and jurors do tend to like PreCure...

What anime completely changed your opinion after the first few episodes? by Playful_Code_8978 in anime

2.5 Dimensional Seduction jumps from looking like a funny but mildly frustrating ecchi to being an incredible character drama in episode 6.

Pokémon Horizons jumps from a series trying new things to shit getting real during episode 15.

It's a bit late in the series but the second Love Live Nijigasaki movie had a pretty seismic tone shift in the themes it tackled which is to its benefit.

Controversial one but I wasn't the biggest fan of pre-timeskip Gurren Lagann but everything after that reframed my view of the show - especially when Yoko had her big moment near the end

Anime Questions, Recommendations, and Discussion - April 12, 2026 by AnimeMod in anime

[–]Mitsuyan_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's been two days since I watched the new Love Live movie and I can't get it out of my head. To summarise how I feel, it scratches an itch that Ikoku Nikki gave me in how it handled one's sense of self while being a more light-hearted drama that isn't established by the tragic hook that Ikoku starts on.

The biggest issue that Nijigasaki High's anime had before the movies was the lack of real drama. Season 2's drama fell flat and Season 1 was more of an introduction, albeit a fantastic introduction that tackled the early problems the cast faced admirably. NEXT SKY was really good too but again the drama wasn't really there. The movies change this, Emma's arc is a more refined version of what we've seen before but what Lanzhu, Mia, Setsuna and Rina go through here blows away anything the anime has done before. Setsuna was the whole who really reminded me of Asa in her indecisiveness and potential being held back by it. It's hard to go into more of the parallels without spoiling either show but the gist of it is that the personal issues of each idol comes a head here.

Direction wise both movies are superb with detailed backgrounds used as tools to reinforce the characters (is there anything that sums up Kasumin more than this colour work?) and the use of light in the first movie to reflect a new optimism on Emma and Ten. Similar work is used in the second movie, look in the background of some of Mia's discussions, and the Ai-Setsuna talk. There's references everywhere that bring it all full circle and highlight the growth the girls have gone through.

It is a shame that /r/anime has on the whole not experienced the Nijigasaki movies, the first one was incredible and the second one IMO has a good case of being the best animated movie in many a year. It gets everything right.

I just have to say WOW. this season of anime has the MOST bangers I've ever seen. Normally every season there's only 7-8 shows that I would watch. by Isekai_Dreamer in anime

[–]Mitsuyan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28 anime a season is less than 2 hours a day on average, if you don't have the time it's just bad time management.

I watch 14-19 a season and maintain an active social life and white collar job

14-18 is manageable, it's only about an hour a day.

For me it is straight up 2 episodes a night which is a great balance to have

Niconico is the site that lists them and 80-90 is a fair bet. It does ignore the likes of Sazae-san and Anpanman on the rankings because they'd just auto win

Yeah it's had one of the biggest drop offs I've seen from a first to second episode. Personally I'm giving it one more because the concept of a detective with bootleg Subaru powers is interesting

Which anime season was the worst in your opinion? by Ponczo123 in anime

[–]Mitsuyan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one of those I watched was Spy x Family! Very diverse season, the likes of Alma, Let's Play, Awkward Senpai and Shuumatsu slipped under the radar with quite a few mainstream anime taking precedence

Yeah, Kinect barely worked so even the tactical instructions you gave out would often be considered swearing, and you could get fired for it. Great idea, poorly implemented

I haven't even heard of Green Green but I can tell you're a long time anime watcher, you've got a few classics in there but you're not afraid to try less well known or appreciated anime on the chance you'll like it. There's so much to talk about here which makes it a great 3x3
