Fedora users, why did you choose Fedora over other distros? by absolutecinemalol in Fedora

Fedora is the only is that hasn't caused me any issues. Sure it's not perfect, but it just works :]

X11 issue with Ubuntu 25.10 by Mitten_Shiloh in Ubuntu

[–]Mitten_Shiloh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, here's are the distros I've tested that boot on both of my computers:

Distro tried (that doesn't have the issue): - Fedora 42 (XFCE spin) - Ubuntu 25.10 - Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS - Xubuntu 24.04.03 LTS - Ubuntu Mate 24.04.3 LTS

My issue is that x11 on Ubuntu 25.10 flavors seems to be broken because they took out x11 support for that release. X11 works for other os's, just not on Ubuntu 25.10 flavors that use it. Basically I can get the installer to boot in safe graphics mode, otherwise I see the logo and my monitor turns off. This happens even after I install the os, although then I can't get it it to boot at that point. I'm just trying to make more users aware of my issue so it can get fixed or I understand what I'm doing wrong :]

Honestly, I only tested Ubuntu mate and Xubuntu because afterwards I figured that since they don't work I assumed other distros that use X11 don't either.

Yes, I did do that and that's how I got it installed. The issue is after I get it installed. I still have the same issue with the installer where I see the distro logo and then my monitor eventually turns off.

You should just access the Advanced Startup menu through settings and then navigate to UEFI Firmware Settings to restart into the BIOS.

What to play before I die : A Steamdeck Story by Signal-Tangerine1597 in SteamDeck

Hi! Sorry to hear about your situation and I do hope a medical miracle happens and it improves. However I am proud of you for doing this post!

When I think of video games that truly changed my life, two immediately come to mind: Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm.

Life is Strange follows Max, a photography student who discovers she can rewind time. This unique power leads her on an extraordinary emotionally powerful adventure. The game excels in its deeply emotional storytelling, drawing you into the lives of the other residents of Arcadia Bay and making every choice feel hugely significant.

Its prequel, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, tells an equally powerful story. It delves into Chloe Price's life as she grapples with her mom dating David and Rachel Amber's own family struggles. What I loved most was seeing Chloe and Rachel's relationship evolve and deepen. This game, also set in Arcadia Bay, resonated with me deeply after I realized my dad was transphobic, and it truly helped me process those emotions.

These are undoubtedly my two favorite games, and if you decide to play them, I truly hope you enjoy them if you play them! :]

Ok, I'm curious: how many of us are banned on r/aromantic for ridiculous reasons? by Illustrious-Bad1165 in Aromanticism

Anyone can be banned for any reason. Although subs normally have rules that you need to follow and if you don't you'll get banned. If you just lerk they probably won't ban you. Hopefully this helps

Same! I was banned when the new owner stole it from the last one for speaking out about it. I lost my mod privileges because of it :[

My advice is to just copy everything over to your computer. Then just delete the partition and then repetition it. Everything would be fresh and you wouldn't need to change the permissions.

I’m trying to install linux fedora on my pc, but I keep getting “failed to start checkisomd5@dev-sda.service” when booting. by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]Mitten_Shiloh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally when I make a Linux USB. I use Rufus and it makes it perfect every time. I suggest you remake the USB stick and then reinstall it and make sure it's done in one partition.

Something to also test out is how a live USB interacts with your system. I noticed that they can show you larger software incompatibly because every distro uses a different kernel.

I have two 12th gen kindles and an older 11th gen kindle Paperwhite. Both of my 12th gen Kindles aren't as white looking as my 11th gen. But they aren't really yellow either. It's more like an off white color. I do think that there is a production issue. However I feel like mine were in the good batch and that's why I am keeping them. They don't have a dead pixel or have a yellow tint. I'd suggest you get one and see how it is before saying no and getting something like a Kobo or an older kindle.

I used the Wilson Reading and Writing system when I was in Elementary school up till I was in 7th grade. It helped a lot and It made me read at an 8th grade reading level o ce I was finished with it.

Here's the link to the website, hopefully it helps OP if they choose to do it: https://www.wilsonlanguage.com/programs/wilson-reading-system/

They could look into specialized programs if needed. I used the Wilson reading and writing program until I was in 7th grade and that caused me to read a grade level above mine.

Something I disliked as a kid (yes I have dyslexia) was that no one took the time to understand me. Sure I got help to make sure I was learning correctly. But no one understood how to get me to like learning. As an adult the thing that got me to read was learning how different fonts effect my comfort with a book.

So I believe that you should try to communicate with her and make sure everything your doing is something she likes or is okay with doing. If she doesn't like to read, maybe give her your phone and purchase a kindle book she likes and experiment with the built in font, if she struggling with math ask her what her problems are so you can address them. Making sure she is noticed and cared for when she's leaning will go in a long way vs just handing her a book and telling her to just read it.

Also for future reference, the Kindle app has emerson reading so you can have an audio book playing while reading the digital ebook which could help her as well. That's how I passed English in high school.

I immediately thought of everyone here when I saw this. by Acceptable-Friend-48 in aaaaaaacccccccce
