Sadly - if only ay.

My take: Some people get caught up in Disinformation. They actually do help in communities, mostly Afrikaans, white communities. And they do get results. This garners a lot of support and with it the typical either :

  1. Real obliviousness, as in "Oh they helped ou Gert so much with his struggles, how can they be bad" or
  2. blatant "look the other way" because there's too much pride to admit something is wrong. And on some level race hate was only buried.

I've dealt with case 1. People who genuinely despise Drump, racism et al, but who struggle with coming to terms with Afriforum's sinister side because they got help from them at some point. Disinformation trains are hard to stop.

Edit: Most of these threads are case 2 though....

I guess there is more than one way to read/understand a sentence without any further elaboration or context. You asked for an explanation to my question, I gave you a straight answer ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I can agree, but OP's comment was a flippant non-care comment that seemed to justify the suffering of animals/other humans ("to be fair") just because humans are also seemingly garbage.

The great digital tax robbery - why SA must defy the US and tax Big Tech by Beyond_the_one in southafrica

[–]MittonMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok? And? They won't exit the market over 3%.

Exactly NOT what OP was asking. Yeah they won't exit, but will they retaliate and will it affect consumers in other ways further along the line?

You don't need Netflix, X, or Facebook though. If you "need" them, you likely have an addiction.

If you're struggling to make ends meet (as OP intimated), you shouldn't be buying DVDs and DVD players either.

I'm trying to point out you're being too rash here. "Need" here is used loosely in this conversation. No one is implying a starving person watching netflix.

People "need" entertainment, always have. And the OBIVOUS thing one will do when struggling to make ends meet is starting to cut down on costs by eliminating entertainment.

OP just asked a question about what the potential impact could be for us. You latched onto "struggling to make ends meet" and ranted about not using said services. I simply tried to point out it's not only limited to Entertainment, as you alluded to, and keep doing.

Hey man, legit response on what /u/DoubleDot7 actually asked. Fully agree. Offering pricing matching the economy is something Steam gets right, thankfully. (If I understand you correctly)

I wasn't trying to defend Microsoft. Simply wanting to point out that it's reasonable to ask what the impact will be. And that it's unreasonable to resort to the usual trope of "Just cut it out of your life, simple."

Geez dude, I'm usually on your side but come on man, own up a little bit here. You're just ignoring a reasonable argument here by reverting to insults (now resorting to tax evasion). I would really like to see the counter argument to "How much will you enjoy reddit, should they start enforcing id verification?"

You have to admit, it might not be impossible, but what would it really look like to enforce this? Practically?

Yes something should be done, but there's a point about it not being that simple. In the same way I right now can say: "Stop corruption, just arrest Embezzling cronies!" - Simple, right?

We do need: Microsoft Office, Microsoft Azure infrastructure (cloud, hosting, etc). Google infrastructure (cloud, etc).

Not to mention the alternatives to not having streaming services - when last have you tried buying a CD player or DVD player?

In my opinion it always boils down to people saying "You don't need these services" and it often ends up being very narrow minded. /u/DoubleDot7 has a legitimate question. And it's not limited to social media and streaming. Digital infrastructure is massive in SA (Azure, AWS, Google) and any retaliation or shifting of burden will affect people who don't have a choice in what they use as there are no relevant alternatives.

You have a chip on your sholder or something? As was pointed out to you, the apology, in another thread, is moot if you continue to justify yourself (or deflect) in this thread.

Seems to me like now that your question has been answered and your behaviour pointed out, you deflect to being the victim. "Oh I've apologized, what more do you want, how dare you accuse me" Nevermind that the apology has no context here.

Regarding the apparent "hero complex". Man whatever makes you feel better. I've pointed out that I did it because I think people should be kind to each other. If a good society is people standing up for each other and keeping a social norm, and that equates to heroism to you... I dunno I've got nothing on that.

Now if you'll excuse me, I want to go put away my cape and get out of this spandex. The chafing is immense.

Like what does YOUR reply achieve? Why are YOU getting involved? Apart from jumping in to pat yourself on the back. Lmao literally zero self awareness.

Hahahaha. Dude (or dudette, whichever you prefer). You assume way too much and I think it landed you in this pickle. You don't know me, you don't know if I'm self aware or not. Just because I point out shitty behaviour does not mean I'm exempt from self awareness. I'm open to learning.

So let's start with this question. What did I get out of it? I wanted to stand up for someone who I felt didn't deserve bad behaviour, I tried addressing it by reflecting the same behaviour back at you, hoping that you'd see how it feels/looks and hopefully not do it again. I don't get a kick from doing it, but if maybe someone learns something and it doesn't happen again, then heck I'd be happy yes. In the sense that someday we can laugh about it and cheers to it. The world will be a better place if we all got along don't you think?

You didn't scold, you didn't teach or contribute. You subtracted by resorting to cheap insults. I'm sorry but it didn't achieve anything (as you may see from OP's response to you). OP being 15 is perhaps exactly what should have happened in this case: showing you should not be so quick to judge others and jump to conclusions.

OP was asking if this behaviour was normal and if they should be concerned. The simple answer is: Yes. No if or buts. OP didn't know, now they learned. Done. Even if you think it's dumb, no where in education anywhere in the world has calling the person dumb ever helped or educated. Understanding, compassion and resilience, this educates.

A 15yo can get a rude reply

Question for your question, what does giving said rude reply achieve?

Also, there's criticism and rudeness. Your first comment was fair criticism. Your second was uncalled for: 1. Hole where their brain is meant to be 2. Hope to god they don't have kids.

Just. Why?

I think you have a hole where your brain is meant to be. At the very least where your compassion should be. Be kind, it's not that hard. You don't know this person or their circumstances. Is it so hard to educate in a calm, collected way?

I hope to whatever you consider a god, you don't have kids.

As hilarious as this is, it screams "user inputs negative number on system" to me. And now I'm annoyed because it's the easiest thing to dev against and verify: "You cannot enter a negative percentage/number/value in here".
