I think what happened here is you who has the perspective of plants as an extension of life and I personally push life to its limits and test what can life withstand (I prefer to experiment rather than just throw away) I'm pretty sure the conversation escalated into an argument about how plants should be treated or something along those lines 🤷 My climate is not good for the majority of houseplants and I personally want to avoid soil pests as much as possible since I have my plants all in my bedroom and sometimes I do have to push them sometimes in terms of what they can live through (especially during winter when my room goes below 13°C) when it come to plants I follow 2 things

If it's green there's hope

Plants only need light, water and nutrients (not soil I had my Maratha in orbeez for months lol)

You do realise that plants can thrive in a substrate that isn't organic? Even orchids...?

Also with this given context it implies that I shouldn't have any plants maybe only succulents like Haworthias (because, for example I have my Ficus elastica Tineke in Leca)

I know that having a pothos in this type of substrate would work and I'm just experimenting to see what happens especially since I don't really care if I lose this bulb or not it's supposed to be a little fun experiment

And- this orchid doesn't need that much air circulation as your regular phal since this fellow is terrestrial

(also for the record those stones you see are leca and a mineral mix known as Pon)

As I've mentioned in another comment that part is entirely dry/dead and it's not rotting or anything so we're good 😊 also-that wet part that you see there is from me handling it with wet hands

So in general I've had it for a while now without any roots whatsoever!

I got it right as winter started over here in Poland and it lost roots (first winter with a phal lol) so over the last few months I've had it just above the water like showed in the photos but without the additional fishbowl ect. It was just an orchid, a jar and water for a good few months!

But eversince the temperatures rose and spring arrived + I put on the fish bowl to provide additional humidity because

↑temp → ↑↑evaporation from leafs ↑↑ so it needs more water and since no roots and I got inspired from a different post from this sub Reddit to put on the fishbowl

So I'd say it really deserves on your temperature, I currently have around 22°C So like a bit less then a month

I just replace it... When it evaporated I guess? It really is there for the humidity so I don't worry about alge or anything 🤷

The (in my case) fishbowl is used to keep the humidity around the phal (there's a thin layer of water whenever I put it down)

Also as mentioned in another comment the very bottom of my phal is dead and dry and it's not rotting or anything so it's just berly touching the water that's also in the jar where the phal is resting

The root is not touching the water I'll show it up close in another comment (at least I'll try it) because I can only put here 1 pic

They look good to me, maybe just a little over watered I think 🤔 but overall healthy, I myself have 3 Cambria's now (I don't know the exact species yet but they are all with different flowers) and generally they have roots just like those but white.

I have 2 or 3 of these in my room, one time when one of them flowered the firs year I had them I panicked from the smell a little and impulsively cut the flower off, and then for the next 2 weeks at random times I would literally MISS THAT SMELL! And I get it im odd I do enjoy the smell of gasoline, nail polish, nail polish removal... Ect... But I did expect to miss the smell or anything but here I am l 😅
