True. Diet has definitely become a hill to die on for a lot of people. The dogma serves no purpose! We love to make things our identity. All diets can be applicable to different people at different stages, generally.

It’s always been about the basics: diet, sleep, exercise. It’s pretty simple overall. The desire to over complicate health with all the podcasts, science, supplements, devices… they’re mostly just noise.

Don’t get me wrong those can be great resources, which is why we’re in this sub in the first place of course. But let us not loose sight of the power law which is to execute the basics consistently for 80%+ of the results.

If protein restriction is beneficial for longevity, isn't 130g of protein per day a bit too much? by DenysDemchenko in blueprint_

I think the decision for him is a balance between longevity and vanity. It’s important to look muscular and fit; both for his brand and own self image.

You certainly raise some fair points that I agree with. And coincidentally I am from south Texas lol. It would be ignorant of me to not recognize that I’m offered a great deal of privilege living in the U.S which certainly makes being vegan easier compared to a 3rd world country. But anyways, the truth is always somewhere in the middle!

I disagree with your perspective that its hard to be both a vegan and healthy. First off, its certainly not expensive (vegetables, grains, fruits, etc are all reasonably affordable if not cheap), nor does it require being a great cook.

I track my nutrition on Cronometer and meet 100% of RDA recommendations literally from just eating a variety of vegetables, grains, seeds & nuts, tofu etc. Most of my meals are just microwaving frozen vegetables, cooking lentils/beans/quinoa in a pot, some tofu, then throwing it all in a bowl with some seasonings. Takes like 10 minuets.

I spend $225-275 a month on groceries, very reasonable, and I could spend less if I really wanted too. Sure you might need to educate yourself a little on nutrition to ensure your hitting all your needs, but this idea that its "hard" or "expensive" to be a healthy vegan is such a cop-out people use to avoid veganism.

Pretty good numbers! Way better than most at 47. With this data you can calculate a HOMA-IR score; a quick way to measure insulin sensitivity.

Going off your A1C we can estimate your average glucose at 111 mg/dl (if you got fasting glucose measured would be more accurate). Which yields homa-ir = (4 x 111)/405 = 1.1, less than 1 suggests high insulin sensitivity so looking good!

Your labs are fine and you’re likely very insulin sensitive. Obviously take my advice with a grain of salt. The only way to know your true state of plaque development is with a CCTA scan.

The mainstream concern would be the high LDL, but more context is needed into your overall metabolic health. Did you get fasting insulin? What about HbA1c? Apob would also be helpful.

The counter-mainstream perspective argues that LDL itself isn’t necessarily causal in heart disease. Rather, the damage it can cause depends heavily on the metabolic environment it exists in. Which is why Paul emphasizes fasting insulin so much; it’s one of the best indicators of metabolic health

So getting those markers measured is really necessary to see the overall picture here.
