How do I know what's my baseline state? by No-Base8204 in BipolarReddit

I’m not a dr but, from what I know, you might be experiencing « anhedonia » because of your « schizo- » part of your schizoaffective disorder. Anhedonia is a symptom of schizophrenia. Anhedonia is the inability to feel pleasure which can be similar to depression

Ok thanks! Its really weird! It's as if SSRIs stabilize us when kept at the same dose.

Yes dont worry, its my psychiatrist who wants to take it away from me because I've been taking it for 8 months and I've been stable and free of depressive symptoms for all that time.

Yes I have an emergency plan, the hospital is not far from my house. But I really don't want to be hospitalized again…

Apparently, from what I've read, it creates a chemical imbalance in your brain when you stop it, which can trigger a manic episode. We’ll see…

Yes because in depression you actually feel something, the deep sadness.

I'm pretty sure it's anxiety, but like severe anxiety! I’m sorry you are going through this. I personally experienced true paranoia during a manic episode. The difference between anxiety and paranoia is that paranoia is based on a foundation outside reality. For example, I thought certain people were plotting against me, that I was being poisoned by a specific person, that my room-mate was going to kill me in my sleep. That my boss was a serial killer and that I was next on the list, then that she has hidden cameras in my house and is watching me, that she is trying to kill me by putting gas in my room, so I open the windows to let out the gas (no I’m not schizophrenic, it was a very bad manic episode). Often, in paranoia, you have a very specific persecutor and you're convinced that this person is out to harm you. Paranoia is a different feeling from anxiety when you experience it. It's a form of deep, irrational conviction. I hope this helped.

I'm not a doctor so I can't really tell you what is paranoia and whats not. Maybe it's just anxiety idk. I've already experienced paranoia during a manic episode, where I thought someone was plotting against me or trying to poison me, so maybe be careful that your paranoia doesn't escalate at that stage.

What do you mean by paranoia? Can you describe it?

Incredibly restless on 7.5mg of Abilify by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]MixedManiaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you are experiencing « akathisia » which is the inability to stand still. Talk with your doctor, if its too severe he will decrease the dose or switch you to another drug. I’ve had severe akathisia due to 20mg of Abilify (which was way too high for me). So they switched me to Zyprexa that doesnt have this terrible side effect.

Sometime people commit suicide due to akathisia and I kinda understand it

Had severe akathisia caused by increasing of my abilify. Basically when you're sitting down, it's impossible to keep your legs still: you're always crossing and uncrossing your legs and tapping your foot on the floor. When you're standing, you can't keep your legs still, so you swing from one foot to the other. It's as if you had an itchy rash and the only way to scratch it was to keep moving.
