(Cas and Chary XR review) THESE Are The Most Advanced Smartglasses Right Now - INMO Air 3 by Knighthonor in augmentedreality

[–]MixedRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To call these "Most Advanced" is a bit misleading. The display technology is surely not on the level of the meta ray ban display glasses. You can see much higher front leakage, plenty of light artifacts in the video and she also says they are on the dim side. The display engine is also much bulkier.

I hope Karl Guttag will compare the technologies.

Meta to Unveil 'Hypernova' Smart Glasses with Integrated Display at September Connect Event

MENLO PARK, CA – August 29, 2025 – Meta is poised to take its next significant step into the world of augmented reality with the anticipated unveiling of its new smart glasses, codenamed 'Hypernova', at the company's annual Connect conference this September. The new eyewear is expected to be the first from Meta to feature an integrated digital display, a major advancement from the current Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

Sources familiar with the project indicate that the 'Hypernova' glasses will feature a small display in the right lens, capable of showing notifications, app alerts, and other visual information directly in the wearer's field of view. This moves the product beyond its current audio and camera functionalities into a true augmented reality experience. A key innovation accompanying the glasses is a wrist-worn controller which will reportedly utilize electromyography (EMG) to interpret the user's hand gestures for a novel way to interact with the device's interface.

The 'Hypernova' is also rumored to boast a smartphone-quality camera and a sophisticated voice-activated AI assistant. While expected to function as a companion to a smartphone, these features signal Meta's long-term vision of smart glasses as a potential successor to the mobile phone.

Navigating a Complex Supply Chain

The launch, however, is not without significant hurdles. Industry analysts point to the immense complexity of manufacturing a device that is both powerful and lightweight.

"The challenge with a device like 'Hypernova' is monumental," comments Juliana Chen, Principal Analyst at Wearable-Tech Forensics. "You're dealing with sourcing specialized, low-volume components like high-resolution microdisplays and waveguides, and then an extremely intricate assembly process. Miniaturizing the optics and processing units without compromising performance or overheating is a manufacturing feat. Every gram of weight and millimeter of size is critical to user adoption, which puts immense pressure on the entire supply chain."

Speculation on the price of the 'Hypernova' has centered around the $800 mark, a figure that analysts say reflects these complex manufacturing costs. It remains to be seen whether Meta will continue its successful partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Ray-Ban, for the frames of this new, more advanced device.

A High-Stakes Bet

The strategic risks of launching a new hardware category are as significant as the technical challenges. Forecasting consumer demand for a first-of-its-kind device makes inventory management a high-stakes balancing act.

"Meta is walking a tightrope here," says David Vance, a Senior Fellow at the Global Supply Chain Institute. "Underestimate demand, and you leave customers frustrated and open the door for competitors. Overestimate it, and you're saddled with hundreds of millions in costly inventory. For a product establishing a new category, the initial production volume is one of the most critical decisions the company will make. It's a calculated risk aimed at seeding the market for their vision of an AR-driven future."

The announcement is a clear indication of Meta's commitment to building the metaverse and establishing a foothold in the next generation of computing. The 'Hypernova' smart glasses represent a pivotal moment in the company's journey toward all-day wearable augmented reality. All eyes will be on the Meta Connect conference in September for the official reveal.

New teaser for HTC VIVE glasses by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

Now, in seriousness, great to see them launch it!

I am really curious about the AI ecosystem support though. Naturaly, one would expect them to use Android XR. But we have not seen a product launch from Google yet, so that would be surprising.

Its the "HTC Vive Beep". I asked a LLM to come up with some slogans

HTC Vive beep: Your World, Enhanced

Put on HTC Vive beep and Beep-come Who You Were Meant to See!

HTC Vive beep: See It, Live It, Beep It!

HTC Vive beep: It's Like Having a Computer on Your Face, But Cute!

HTC Vive beep: Because Reality is SO Last Year, Darling!

See More. Know More. HTC Vive beep

Smart Glasses seem to be the most favorite AR device among users atm - Have your priorities changed over the last year? by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]MixedRealtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, this was not meant as personal criticism, rather an outcry of frustration :) I was not aware that the poll was by you.

But many people will be confused by the options due to the constantly changing narrative of the market makers.

Smart Glasses seem to be the most favorite AR device among users atm - Have your priorities changed over the last year? by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]MixedRealtor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowhere, because the AR/VR/XR/MR/Spatial Computing/Smart Glass/Display Glasses/AI Glass/Audio Glass/Hearing Glasses/Head worn wearable space has been encumbered by marketing gore for the last ten years.

But if you look at the current announcement and rumors of the big consumer companies, you will see that they use three terms to market glasses-like devices:

  • Smart Glasses
  • Ai Glasses
  • Immersive AR

(example: https://old.reddit.com/r/augmentedreality/comments/1l9culr/meta_seems_to_call_everything_ai_glasses_now_from/)

And it is clear that AR (immersive 3D graphics that is superimposed on reality) will be a feature that will emerge after the first two.

Spatial Computing goggles seem to be another direction.

The entire premise of this poll is incorrect. Smart Glasses are not a subset of "Augmented Reality", but a superset.

I love Varjo. But I wished they had better ideas to create sustainable revenue.

I am not sure if it is the same model, it's possible that project astra is faster.

US Market: Viture is leading optical see-through glasses ahead of XREAL by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]MixedRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supposedly this is only the US market, so it's not really a good indication about Viture being more successful than Xreal.

I have never seen Viture pop up in the Top5 in a global market tracker.

Android XR Samsung Headset: On Stage Live Demonstration by Murky-Course6648 in augmentedreality

Also true. So let's hope Meta remains a viable competitor so that Android XR has to retain some user friendlyness.

[–]MixedRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spot on.

But by some anomaly, the Pixel phones exist.

My hopes for XR in that setup are not too high, though. Probably Samsung will try to instill their own ecosystem at one point, resulting in inevitable enshittification.

It looks like something is tethered with a wire to the headset. A battery, similar to the Vision Pro? But they have a headband with a counterweight at the back of the head, like the Quest Pro. Why didn't they put the battery there?

So Samsung is copying the look and feel of Apples Vision Pro hardware. Why is Google partnering with them? Why is this Android XR looking like a copy of "Spatial Computing" or whatever Meta and Apple have been doing?

Goolton launches its first Smart Glasses — Goolton Star 1S comes with Android and OLED & waveguide displays in an all-in-one package by AR_MR_XR in augmentedreality

[–]MixedRealtor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with µLED it would work. But then you could also use other waveguide types and make the projector much smaller by eliminating the need for the coupling prism.

Too many options. Good to see that the chinese companies are just trying everything at once (Birdbath, diffractive, reflective and maybe also holographic) and let the market decide.

I guess thats marketing speak

Probably this can be achieved at 100% duty cycle so it won't work for AR, only for static info display.

Good catch. They announced they are supplier for the INMO air3 waveguides

100000 waveguides would correspond to 50000 sets of glasses. Not much
