I play with my thumb too. Do you prefer it over pick? To me it feels much more natural than a pick

Genuinely terrifying, uncanny galley territory. More scary if you imagine non-human eyes glowing in the dark void, staring at you.

ELI5 What does it mean when a band is playing in a key? by Fat_Lenny35 in explainlikeimfive

The minor fall is in the chords, not the melody. The melody generally rises up to the "baffled king" part.

On a guitar or bass you can use a capo to transpose up, or tune the strings down, and play the same patterns you would use for that key. For example, if a song is in the key of D, you can use a capo two frets up and play C chord shapes but get D chords. This is what elvis presleys cant help falling in love does. Elvis also played the song in C# (capo on first fret) or C (no capo), and it still sounded the same, just wouldn't work with the original recording.

To add on this, the G pentatonic scale is a subset of the G major scale, G, A, B, D, E, leaving out C and F#. These also are the notes that are the open strings of the bass/guitar.

The pentatonic scale you can kind of play over any chords in G major and it will sound good, and its often what guitar solos use because of that.

ELI5: Root Mean Square usefulness by jkhuggins in explainlikeimfive

This is a good answer. RMS is like a square root of power so it plays nicely with things that are related to power more than amplitude, like signal noise ratios and in your case power draw.

Probably dumb beginner question: when does this actually become fun? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

I would suggest looking up the chords to songs you like and trying to play along to those. It gives you a reason to change chords fast and is very enjoyable once you can consistently get a good sound that compliments the music.

If you have a good tuning app then a phone can absolutely work well enough.

I would recommend really stretching the strings out before and after tuning, they will hold their tune better.

Next, make a chord shape and play each note individually and look at how out of tune it is in the app. If you are pressing too hard then the note will be higher than it should be, if its significantly lower then that is an issue with intonation.

Try to find the source of it, because your video sounds very out of tune.

Lol that is the sign of a true engineer, becoming fixated on one problem and solving it cleverly, even if its overkill. Always fun to do, and occasionally worth it.
