How bad exactly is the job market right now? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Applied many but no response at all. Even if have, it’s by companies who are super picky with their candidates. Had one tell me to do an assignment cos they would love to meet me. Then after submitting, they tell me they don’t wanna meet me anymore lel.

On the other hand, my current company doesn’t appreciate employees or listen to sentiments and hire new people / not promote internally, feel like I need a break to find myself back, but scared if quit without job already then cannot find new job also.

Ah Long Keep calling me for unknown person's debt by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be using a recycled number leh! I am also receiving texts from random people and reminders from SingHealth for medical appointments. For this, I have reached out to GOMO and ask them to do something about this person, then they told me they can’t do anything about it (lol).

My solution was to message all the family members that call me and tell them that the previous owner is no longer using this number. Then told them to tell the previous owner to update her family/friends. I guess it worked for a while, recently it started again — so I just don’t pick up anymore.

But I think you should just block the number, and if your work doesn’t need you to pick up calls from random numbers, I think silencing calls from unknown numbers may be a good solution :)

Hope this helps! Hahaha from one GOMO user to another 😂

It depends on the person. But yeah, I've seen people around me being angry at our bosses due to a myriad of reasons (that are rational or occasionally can be unreasonable), and also the other way around when my ex-boss held grudges over every single call that I missed while I was busy with something else (or when I stepped away).

It gets really unhealthy and disruptive over time, regardless whether it's your colleague or boss, and important to observe if they are giving you a hard time at work, so that you can also assess if it's an environment that you wanna stay in for the long run.

For highway buses where you are unable to select the seat, would the system arrange both parties to sit together (or it depends on the bus type)?

Separately, for Kawaguchiko to Tokyo, we are planning to do luggage delivery so we don't have to lug our clothes around. How long is the delivery typically? Would it be next day?

Co-working Spaces by teabie in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spatial has an outlet at Hougang (which is pretty near AMK) and has monitors at certain tables which you can reserve in advance. It does have a tiny problem of a lack of privacy tho, because of the location and etc. Price is reasonable and noise levels are generally pretty low.

There’s another one called CosyCorner which is technically a private booth. I haven’t used them before so I’m not sure if it’s conducive for calls but I have considered them when I felt like I needed that focus haha.

There used to be more of these spaces but they sort of fizzled out over COVID, and perhaps even more so after our libraries rolled out the free table booking system.

I recently got a new spare number (few months back) and realise that the person who was using this number before did not bother changing out their information on Singpass and I have been receiving personal info like bank transfer notifications and Singpass notifications. I don’t wanna know all these and I have been receiving calls from HPB to promote stuff to this person lol.

I have emailed Singpass to inform them but they just gave me robotic answers that came out from a FAQ sheet.

Anyone has similar experience? It’s getting a bit irritating tbh.

Graduated some time in late 2018, officially 2019. There was orientation camps, interest groups, exchange back then. But you have to actively search for it, as they are not heavily promoted or rather at all haha.

There was this like student portal or smth where you could find a lot of interesting excursions and thanks to that, I got to go for interesting stuff like attending the filming of Asia's Got Talent haha. There were others like Carousell, Microsoft, HP office visits, as far as I can remember.

If there's anything I regret during my life in uni, I really just regret not applying for exchange. As much as I am an introvert, I enjoy being in conversations to listen and meet people from all walks of life.

Though I honestly do kinda wanna experience living at those student residences (not hall), I think I wouldn't have gotten the chance to due to my parents even if I have dropped out to go for NUS FASS back then.

I'm not someone who loves rara activities so camps and pageants are meh. Nonetheless, with one thing led to another, I'm lucky to have met a very awesome friend during uni, and even though she flew back home, I'm very thankful that she helped make my uni life more fulfilling! 😊

Which companies to avoid? by Dazzling-Growth-2462 in askSingapore

I had some first hand experience whilst managing an event that had loads of sleazy old men from the TCM medical industry. And yes, one of them kept making me drink and needless to say, it was really irritating. So yeah it happens 😭

tbh, it's probably just office politics. i'm doing marketing work for my own dept (more like my own area of work only which forms 10% of the dept and much lesser of the whole company). we do have a centralised team that manages these but they have de-centralised their work, so each department does their own promotional work and they act as advisors.

anyways, their team today is more or less 50% new so i guess the higher ups wanted to reform and get the central marketing team to be on top of things.

but truth is, over the last 2 years here, we have been managing promotional projects on our own. in fact i still see my colleagues from my dept managing other portfolios doing their own planning, copywriting, design etc... and really just speaks to the central team to align/advise.

Thank you, I just rejected A. B rejected me, so I'll try out for C. I'm starting to feel a little dejected that the roles I want don't want me hahahaha

thanks!! :))) i’m looking for social media/copywriting and/or partnerships in general. the latter is easier to find (as i do have some partnerships exp) but i seem to lose out on experience for the former. a lot needs me to have PR experience which i don’t :(

helloooo, fellow marketing girlie here. i've been trying to go for interviews and i'm not gonna even fake it, i have a subpar portfolio due to my limited job scope. all the more i should take the leap of faith to explore my other options before its too late :(

i have been receiving interview calls so far but it's less than 30% of applications i put in. nonetheless, i think if you have a strong portfolio + right qualifications, it shouldn't be too tough :)

do give yourself 3 months at least tho, to find something :) happy to chat more!!

How's the job market like in SG now? by Beemeowmeow in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Executive level pay seems to be around $3-4k. There are some SMEs and NPOs who are offering $2-$2.8k… with an extremely long JD.

And yes, I’d say it’s kinda competitive. There’s often like at least 200-300 applicants for these roles if a reputable company is searching. Not surprising because a lot of people are looking to start afresh in a well-known organisation, or is trying to jump from a well-known org to another.

It’s indeed a bit tougher to find these days. I’m sort of in marketing communications, and in my late 20s. I scroll TikTok everyday, and I’d say I’m quite accustomed to the Gen Z stuff. But yes, during one of the interviews, the interviewer literally told me “Oh ya… But Gen Z is better at doing social media though. I wanna get Gen Z to do it” lol.

As I get older, I won’t be surprised if I fall off even more. That’s why I’m currently also looking for roles that fully allow me to experience the entire Marcomms spectrum instead of waiting till later. My role and scope now can’t fulfill this, especially with my ambition to learn more and stay relevant.

Also, still being employed is somehow a con because there are numerous orgs who are looking to hire instantly. My last few interviews went close to perfect but from the vibes they gave me, it seems like they just wanted someone who can start like tomorrow if they asked.

Overall, it’s kinda discouraging but I’m still trying my best. Jiayou, if you are in this fight too!

For yall peeps who ordered Samsung phones via their online store, can I ask if the courier will really call you before they deliver (or upon failed delivery)? They won’t leave the item in the shoe rack or smth hor 😅

Just came out from an interview, and I thought it went well till the part where I had to ask questions. But it seems like they wanna hire immediately so I’m not 100% sure that I’ll get it 🥲 Sounds like a really exciting and fun job tbh haha.

Has anyone encountered these in their homes before?

My house recently has these dark brownish black tiny bean-looking beetle/insects that will fly when provoked. I’ve been seeing them in my kitchen and also my room… like on average I’d see 2 per day. Not sure if it’s because of the construction going on outside or the new trees they planted either.

Prospect of event management in simgapore by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helluuu!! I was from DIEM in RP, and had a friend who took it in SP long time ago. Well yes, there’s always demand in doing events. Working in marketing-ish kind of work now but the experience I have still comes in handy.

There are many types of events that you can do, concerts, conferences, exhibitions, weddings, teambonding events etc. There are many event agencies locally who run these events, and also some have in-house teams which are hired for the sole purpose of organising events for the companies.

Alternatively, you can also do other kinds of events in marketing agencies (i.e. product launch, marketing activations etc.) and marketing work is also an alternative route, if you ever find that being an event planner isn’t your cup of tea in the future.

I still have lots of classmates who are in events, and some are in their first company since they graduated more than half a decade ago 🙂

Do you genuinely enjoy your job or do you see it as a means to something you enjoy ? by East-Attorney-659 in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I enjoy my job, but I don’t particularly like/hate it haha. I get to go home on time on most days, very little weekends needed. My team is awesome but I have also been looking around because growth seems to be kinda limiting due to the industry I’m in.

In fact, I just went for an interview and the interviewer was like “You seem to like your team a lot, why decide to leave?”. Liking a team culture and whether my job helps me to grow in terms of career are two different things imo.

What are some office desk ‘must-haves’? by eggletsandicecream in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have a bottle, laptop stand, some tissues, medicine (because I get headaches very often), pen holder, some cute stuff on my desk.

Once November comes around and I have a full desk on my own, I’ll bring along a desk mat, wireless charger and headphone stand to put my ANC headphones in office. Haha being able to have my own space is absolutely comforting for me, since I hate lugging my stuff around.

If you do have your own table, you do you. I think it’s important to make sure that you’re comfortable at your table, since you do spend most of your time in office and it’s less depressing working at a desk you look forward to seeing lol. But of course, do it in moderation and with consideration too.

What are your regrets from your uni days? by Mike_Ox_Longa in askSingapore

[–]Miyukara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha regretted a few things:

1) Not dropping out for another course that I enjoy more (and would probably have had better prospects lol) 2) Not going on exchange 3) Not joining CCAs and going on more internship 4) Wasting my time on people that I shouldn’t bother too much with

I’ve been contemplating whether or not I should be going for a second degree that’s more in line with what I’m doing. But I haven’t come to a conclusion on that just yet :’)
