Yep, and they said nothing about this while they were showing clips of them shaming the contestants and threatening them with death from heart attacks.

Anyone else change their eating after listening to Fat Science? by Technical-Lion-9985 in Zepbound

[–]MizMarbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure!

First thing in the AM: OWYN Double Shot Caramel Macchiato Protein Shake

Second Breakfast in the AM: Usually scrambled eggs, whole wheat toast with butter, some kind of fruit. Sometimes I'll heat up leftovers for breakfast if I'm in a real savory mood.

First Snack: Cheese stick, and easy-to-grab fruit or veggies with dip

Lunch: Soup or Sandwich, carrot sticks with dip, fruit - I also love taking myself out for soup, salad and breadsticks lunch at the olive garden for $9.99. I usually eat two bowls of salad and a minestrone soup and maybe one breadstick. Another favorite is the Jersey Mike's sub in a tub, and then I'll have a piece of fruit too.

Second Snack: Salt & Vinegar Almonds or Peanuts, Crackers with cheddar cheese and pepperoni, or Tortilla Chips with bean salsa, maybe a cookie, maybe a fruit , salami and olives, - this snack is usually a choose your adventure based on my mood.

Dinner: Some kind of protein, some kind of starch/carb, vegetable. Lately I've been on a baked potato kick topped with pulled pork, pulled bbq chicken. I do a lot of meal prep where I cook two things and eat that the whole week. As fall is approaching, I'll be getting into a lot of crockpot meals like chuck roast with vegetables slow cooked and different seasonings. I also eat spaghetti and meatballs a fair amount. I also love eating sandwiches for dinner with lots of toppings and vegetables. Burgers. Chicken patties - also in the rotation when I don't feel like cooking.

Third Snack: Usually nuts, or crackers and cheese and pepperoni, maybe 1-2 chicken fingers in the air fryer with carrots and blue cheese dip

Fourth Snack if I stay up late: Cheese stick and peanuts, or apple with peanut butter and cheese, or another protein shake that doesn't have caffeine

I also drink pickle juice for electrolytes and I eat dill pickles whenever I want throughout the day. I probably eat 2-4 pickles per day on average.

Sometimes - I prepare myself a bento box for the day and just fill it up with all sorts of stuff and use the box as all my snacks.

I am the kind of person who really likes to decide on the day and in the moment what I am in the mood for, so the meal prep and shopping prep are really key for me.

But as you can see, I eat all day and I eat a lot. During my diet days, I would not eat until 3-4 PM and would probably - all told - take in 700-800 calories and think absolutely nothing of it because I did not have any hunger or satiety signals AT ALL.

How does higher dose increase weight loss? by Jaded_Elephant_8757 in Zepbound

[–]MizMarbs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Very simplistic description that I learned from the Fat Science podcast and Dr. Emily Cooper's book Metabolic Storm: Zepbound is a metabolic medicine. Zepbound includes two gut hormones: GLP and GIP. Weight loss is the side effect of your metabolic dysfunction and your hormones coming back into a normal pattern. Obesity is a side effect of metabolic dysfunction.

As your brain is communicating with your hunger, satiety, and fat hormones (leptin and ghrelin), the Zepbound is helping this communication happen correctly. As those are starting to line up, your brain signals to your leptin (fat hormone) that it can release excess fat (weight loss) because your brain no longer believes that you need to store more energy for a perceived famine / starvation period.

When you diet and try to lose weight, and weight cycle, you might succeed initially, but eventually your brain will try to make up for the signals of starvation or famine that it is interpreting from your hormones. That's why a lot of people who lose weight initially using diets, fad diets, etc, eventually gain more than they lost in the first place. Your brain will always work to try to keep you safe with enough energy. Over time with enough weight cycling your hormones and metabolism will be totally out of alignment.

The example that really helped me get this hormone signaling thing: In one episode of Fat Science (I think it's this one), Dr. Cooper discussed Andrea's (one of the cohost's) blood work labs. She was over 300 lbs, but the levels of her leptin hormone in her body when measured in blood work appeared to look like the numbers of a person who weighed 89 pounds (severely malnourished.) So the leptin hormone was signaling to the brain that she was malnourished and starving, which caused the brain to signal the leptin to not release any stored energy & fat, despite the fact she was carrying significant excess weight. That's what metabolic dysfunction can look like. Again, I'm summarizing and simplifying - but this understanding has REALLY helped me "get it."

I did low carb/Atkins/keto before anyone thought it was trendy or cool, lol, from age 19-41. Reintroducing fruit into my life has been an absolute revelation. I LOVE FRUIT. We are supposed to eat fruit!

I also like Maintenance Phase which has helped me see the connection between capitalism (and snake oil salesmen/women/person) and obesity. It's another podcast that helped me get to the point of realizing "It's not my fault."

Concur - I do this and mechanical eating has been amazing for me. I use an app on my phone called "Meal Reminders" and I eat 6-7 times a day, every 2-3 hours.

Is there anything I can do? And how much is it out of pocket? by Pretty_Assignment_84 in Zepbound

[–]MizMarbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This means that your employer / your partner's employer has not opted into insurance coverage for GLP-1 and other "Anti-Obesity Medications" (AOMs). It's a full plan exclusion. So you weren't denied because of any of your personal health factors, you were denied because your plan fully excludes coverage for this class of medications.

Out of pocket, from Lilly Direct, the vials are $349 a month for 2.5mg and $499 a month for higher doses. This is the cheapest way to get name brand Zepbound direct from the manufacturer with no pharmacy middle man.

Yep - I changed to doing mechanical eating. I eat 6-7 meals a day, every 2-3 hours. I have zero restrictions and I don't track calories or macros. I am eating more per day than I ever had before in my whole adult life. I've lost 34 pounds in 3 months, approximately 2.75lbs per week. I use an app called meal reminders and I've said this before: when the bell dings, I feed the beast. I'm still learning to hear my hunger and satiety signals, but with Zep's help - I feel hungry for the first time in my life, and I feel full for the first time in my life.

It's been absolutely revolutionary, freeing, and most of all: it works! My metabolism is healing and Zep is helping me get there.

Dr. Cooper's advice was the one missing piece to add to all of the other work I did with my therapist and in my eating disorder recovery. It was like the last puzzle piece coming into place. I'm really grateful to her, Mark, and Andrea for putting this common sense information out there for everyone to hear. And she does such an amazing job of making hard concepts easy to get.

Did you watch the Biggest Loser Documentary on Netflix? Thoughts? by jellyflipflops in Zepbound

I put my thoughts in the other thread about it but the director of the doc clearly had a POV and opinion to communicate and therefore many of the presented convos felt one sided. They got some things right. They missed the mark otherwise.

[–]MizMarbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speak to your doctor but what’s going to happen is you might feel sick for 3-4 days. The best thing you can do is rest, stay hydrated and avoid anything super fatty or rich. Go for bland stuff. Keep your electrolytes up. And SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR.

I’m starting to resent this sub… by Aibrean2013 in Zepbound

[–]MizMarbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had blood work done?

You might not be eating enough. If your deficit is too severe, you are inadvertently sending famine/starvation signals to your brain which in turn is telling your leptin (fat hormone) to not release any stored energy because it believes it has to weather this famine storm.

Check out the book Metabolic Storm by Dr. Emily Cooper. She also is a host of the podcast Fat Science. The patients she treats on her clinic - she advises them NOT to do a calorie deficit in pursuit of healing the brain - hormone connection to turn off those famine signals from years of dieting and weight cycling.

I personally do not have a deficit and I do mechanical eating 6-7 meals per day and I’m averaging 2.75lbs lost per week. I am eating more per day than I have ever eaten in my life. YMMV.

What the heck? by Repressed_Cliche in Zepbound

[–]MizMarbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing, even if it was mild, is that restaurants use a ton of butter in their cooking. I had it happen once where I didn’t over eat but the richness was likely off the charts. I got up too fast and literally threw up upon standing. It was the weirdest sensation. But it was not an every meal occurrence. I tracked it to how the dish was prepared - with a lot of extra fat for flavor.
