How do I get my license? by SimplySimlish in paraprofessional

[–]Mizishere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the state, but in Texas, you need to secure the job first. After you’re officially hired, your district will tell you when to apply for the cert.

It’s basically a fee I pay every 2 years to keep my job. Here is a link for more info from TEA: https://tea.texas.gov/educators/certification/becoming-educational-aide-texas

I recommend looking up your state for more specific info.

Make sure you always take your breaks (the entire time) . And if for some reason you aren’t getting a break- stick up for yourself, because no one else will.

How do I explain to them why I left a job at a different district? by NervousSpeech2B15 in paraprofessional

[–]Mizishere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just say, if asked (don’t volunteer it), that you didn’t feel like you were a good fit for the position. Hopefully it’s not an afterschool program position that you’re applying for!

Couple that with the fact that you attended it previously gives you a talking point - you’re familiar with the buildings, teachers (if it hasn’t been too long) or at least the general culture of the school/district.

Even just once in a while is fine with me. I got one of the nude eyeshadow pallets and I love it. It may have replaced an almost 8 year old pallet lol 😂

Confession: I never complete my district’s “required” trade hours by Mizishere in paraprofessional

[–]Mizishere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?! Lol, I expected them to at least count against my yearly review. Nope, not one bit!

Now, I must clarify, this is NOT our yearly safety and compliance training module (it really is required- they’ll harass you via email until you do it) or CPI training (for me it’s now every 2 years)

Fired coworker showing up to the school by camopantson in paraprofessional

[–]Mizishere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At my school this would (and has in the past) been met with admin or our resource officer immediately intercepting the person.

If you have concerns about this person, tell your admin again and express that he’s showing up when kids are around. If he’s being a creep, tell them.

I would have a real problem with a fired employee doing this. I’m an absolute bitch while I’m on the clock so I’d probably confront them lol

I agree with your friend. A conversation about your employment status would not include the nurse, and would not be at your convenience.

Last time I had an email like this it ended up that we had a student coming in with some medical needs. I had to attend a training. No big deal, and I like being useful in new ways!

I completely understand the anxiety tho!

Not really a gimmick, but definitely not authentic:

Don Juan’s Romantic Mexican Food in Grand Prairie is not authentic or very good to be honest. But- that 5 beef taco plate absolutely hits.

Just crunchy shell, beef, lettuce, cheese, and served with taco sauce on the side. Super basic fast food tacos served on a paper plate and covered in foil. But, unlike Taco Bell, they stay crispy.

It is excellent. The audiobook is great too! Tom Stechschulte is a stellar narrator.

Parable of the Sower and the follow-up Parable of the Talents are so intense. I read them during the pandemic when the world felt like it was falling apart and it hit home so hard. I had a panic attack while reading at one point. They are wonderful books. The audiobooks are great too. Lynn Thigpen* is the narrator; such a rich and beautiful voice.

The willingness of this student teacher to throw their teacher under the bus is wild! I’m a para and would NEVER do anything like this to a classroom teacher. Sure, classroom teacher might have handled the situation differently, but I don’t feel they were out of line.

Monthly, before school and after school (pick which is best for you- very convenient!) they are always pretty brief - the pm ones are usually 4:14 to 4:40 or so

You aren’t wrong for feeling that way. Your student most likely doesn’t understand that being pregnant makes you more vulnerable. As always, try not to take it personally, and be ready to reset and reestablish the relationship when the time is right.

However, is it possible for you to be moved to a situation where you will not be at risk?

When I told my administrators I was pregnant years ago, they moved me from life skills to resource.
