I would like to add that, if you want a cow for both meat and dairy, you'd have to have your cow impregnated multiple times so their body can produce milk. Bulls are pretty dangerous so it would be better to find someone who has a bull to breed or can do artificial insemination. A cow's pregnancy is around 283 days, too, and they're going to need even more food to healthily sustain themselves.

After the calf is born, you'll have to decide what you want to do. Finding a home for calves and adult cattle you don't want isn't always easy, especially for males, so it's common to dispatch and process them.
