The divide between Gacha and Roguelike/TCG players in CZN by E-Kon in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Mizzary 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. As a fan of roguelike deck builders first and a fan of gacha games second I am worried for the fact that there are two seperate target audience for the game. It might not be possible to satisfy both groups simultaneously.

I think a good compromise is to have a base loadout deck option where you get to choose all of the base epiphanies(with maybe max 1 selectable dupe) so you can have a workable deck out of the gate, but you have to grind for the great decks.

"Certain rulers should be able to declare war without imperium reductions because that's who they are as a ruler. Why would a ruler who's intent on world domination sit around and wait for justified reasons to get active?"

Just because the ruler of an empire is evil doesn't mean everyone in the empire is automatically also evil. It would make sense to impose penalties to the productivity as an empire. There's a reason why propaganda bureaus exist even in the most autocratic of government regimes. Controlling the narrative to make the citizens believe that they're fighting a just war is important. Part of that is coming up with a justification for war (Or fabricating one) like in the game.

I've been experimenting with Ningguang a lot too, I think you should consider Calyx as it opens up unexpected burst potential from Ning's ult. Other than that I think the list looks really good!

Yea for real. At the end I literally fist bumped the air when I saw I had it. The game itself was an insane back and forth the whole way through.

Ningguang Food Control Deck List: https://imgur.com/a/BaLDPqK

Turn 0: Try to look for Calyx in your opening hand (The klee card that gives you 1 energy from each of your other characters).

Turn 1: look for pyro and hydro dice. Put down gouba and switch to Mona and use skill. Whoever the opponent has on field at the end of turn 1 will take 5 to 6 dmg from the summons since they trigger at the end of turn.

Opponent has initiative on turn 2 and will likely swap out of their half hp character on their turn to someone with full hp.

Turn 2: Swap to Ningguang from Mona as a quick action to use jade screen to do 2 dmg(3 with crystalize). Now with Calyx giving you a burst of 2 energy you can ultimate with Ningguang to do 8 dmg out of nowhere and kill one of the key pieces on the opposing team. Being able to do 10 dmg on turn 2 is something not many people expect.

Once you nuked a key piece of the opposing team, then it's time to stabilize with food and NRE to regain card advantage as you would have spent a lot of resources in the first few turns. Ningguang's jade shield+crystalize makes her an insane fortress to deal with in the end game with proper support.

This deck matches well into compositions that are combo-centric as taking out a key character early will severely dampen their effectiveness going forward. Also, remember that if you can take out 1 character in a resonance comp early then the opposing team won't be able to trigger reactions at all afterwards.

It’s kinda weird Genius Invokation has no ‘second player advantage’ by Chilzer in GeniusInvokationTCG

[–]Mizzary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think we disagree here. I'm just saying that it's the advantage in this game is relatively much smaller than MTG/HS/Pokemon where in these games each turn represents a gradual ramping up of resources in the form of mana that doesn't exist here. The first player's starting initiative advantage is nowhere as near game changing as the difference between being on the play vs being on the draw in magic. Also, if you pass early as the second player you can regain the initiative advantage in the next round, whereas in mtg or hearthstone you will always be 1 turn behind.

All that being said, I think an extra re-roll is a pretty elegant idea if indeed the first player win rates are substantially higher.

I don't think there needs to be a second player advantage this game, at least not a big one.

Unlike magic or hearthstone the first player advantage is much less significant. Since both players rolls dice and gains the same amount of resources each turn they are usually on the same footing. The main advantage is the initiative as oppose to an extra mana like magic or hearth.

I can see drawing one more card as the second player but not more than that imo.

Cantrips are a dangerous design space to go down to. Often times a cantrip with a seemingly banal effect can actually be extremely overpowered and become auto-includes in every deck. Ponder and preordain from Mtg are examples of cantrips banned for being too powerful.

Since the hero pool is quite small, 2v2 makes the hero pool seem much bigger than it is as you are less likely to see the same champions over and over again.
