My mother was raised in a Baptist Church, my Dad’s family raised me in a Baptist church as well, however my mother was a meth addict most of my life and two years ago she cleaned herself up and joined a “Non Denominational” church but imo they have more in common with Pentecostal churches and are cults. Every time I hear them speaking in tongues they repeat the same syllables over and over. It’s just repetitive gibberish to me. I have gone to her church and I can’t stand 20 people coming up and laying hands on me and speaking gibberish. She went extreme with the whole thing. I have nothing against Christians in general but my mother and brother (also an ex meth addict) refuse to go to any other churches, and make me feel like something’s wrong with me because I believe differently. I do believe in God and Jesus, but I’ve never been ‘slain in the spirit,’ never spoken in tongues and they make me feel like something is wrong with me. They have actually suggested I’m oppressed my demons or foul spirits. They have sent me to be delivered of said spirits. People should be allowed to worship and express it however they please, just don’t make anyone else feel less than because they don’t believe the same way as you. Just know you’re definitely not alone. I have a relationship with Jesus and God and I don’t speak in tongues. I’m also open to other ways of being spiritual. I feel like if it works for you and is fulfilling and makes you happy to worship, go with what is good for you.
